A great-granduncle of mine, Colour Sergeant William Henry Keppy, served in the 2nd Battalion South Wales Borderers during the Boer War. In 1900 he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his actions.
It was a terrible terrible and shameful and unnecessary massacre by neglect and was all for distraction of British people from the suffering they were going through themselves at the hands of the government
The poor guy, now his spirit can eternally reside in shame. maybe no fault of his own, just due to brainwashing by the commanders the people Are horrendous and scrupulous aristocrats of the day
@siamonsparks5738 Completely Incorrect. Following the Bill of Rights 1689, the Sovereigns power was curtailed and by the victorian era the queen was simply symbolic. Beyond that, your comparison between the queens confortable grave and the soldiers shallow graves is ignorant of the fact that all the soldiers were not conscripts, they chose to risk their lives. Also your statement about 'planting settlers on African shores' is invalid. The British Governments interest in Africa came only after british individuals had established business there and when the British economy relied upon these resources. It would be more accurate to say that British settlers planted the Empire in Africa. Finally, on your point about stability in Africa today, you'd be hard pressed to find an ex-British Colony that isn't a democracy today. You cannot say the same of other empires. In fact, remind me of a time that America could say that about its foreign policy... Afghanistan? Iraq? Also, before you Americans lecture us on Empire, I'd kindly like to remind you that we aboloshed slavery three decades before you did and we didnt kill 600,000 of our own people in a civil war over it. I'd advise that you go and read some History... It might do you some good.
The brit monarchy planted settlers on those distant shores in Africa then her majesty's forces arrived in conquest to lay claim and annex and plunder and introduced inhumane practices to enrich the upper classes. When they had faced modern uprisings in the 20th centuary in revolt against british rule and customs by the endemic peoples of those lands , they turned tail and fled abandoning their planted settlers to face the wrath of the natives. Quite shameful actually , not much to be proud and boastful about. The queen vicky in internment in a lead casket surrounded by wealth while settlers are massacred alongside hundreds of thousands of imperial common soldiers buried in shallow graves throughout Africa.

Long live the commonwealth rather. A Fraternal Bond. Not Imperial any longer

Britannia forever! Hail the mother, and her daughters: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the USA (as well as the CSA)!

You can thank the US and the UN for that, not Britain.
We're not sorry. And we've stepped over the prospect of being sorry.
@@fredericktarr8266 never expected you to be sorry but I think you're in a cesspool of shite in blighty right now and the hordes will keep coming.
