Love McGuffey's so SOOOOO much! Though the primer is for kinder and 1st grade (half and half of the book), first eclectic is for 2nd grade, second eclectic is for 3rd and 4th grade (split between the two grades), third eclectic is for 5th and 6th grade (split), fourth eclectic is for 7th and 8th grade (split), fifth eclectic is for 9th and 10th grade (split), and the sixth eclectic is for 11th and 12th grade (split). I can't imagine a 3rd grader using and truly retaining a fourth or fifth eclectic. Very very advanced.
Hello 😊 they are intended for Language Arts. Everything you need is in the entire series. I wish that I had the primers to share with you, but my kids started out in public school two years ago so I don’t t have them. In our home, we use them to practice reading aloud and giving presentation. The books are so fun to read an full of imagery and the vocabulary is so vast that you can truly see a difference in the way your child learns to communicate.
@@FamiLeeLiving do you use them for copywork, narration, or just oral ? Do you stay on the same lesson for a week or just use it for the oral reading component ? I’m sorry that I wants clear clearer. 😁
No worries, I am happy to dive deeper. Monday, Tuesday and Friday: McGuffey’s is used for narration and oral. When one person is reading, myself and the other child who isn’t reading will sit and listen to the prose or poem. Since every prose or poem may vary in length, I set the timer for 3 minutes so that way we aren’t reading aloud for forever. This gives the child who read aloud to give narration as well as all three of us to discuss what part we found most intriguing. We did use them for copy work in the past, but now there is so much variety and writing in their daily school schedule, that I feel like it isn’t necessary. With both students presenting in that way, we spend approximately 10-15 minutes in total with McGuffey’s. My goal isn’t to finish the book by the end of the year. I just find that it is something different and unique to the way we homeschool. We all enjoy being together in this way. I will say that when we have breaks that align with the public school calendar, we continue to use the eclectic readers that we have along side a lighter version of home crafted Bible study and Math. So even though we don’t intend to complete our readers during the school year, we usually finish them before the next school year starts. I will say that with the primers, I will use those when my 1 year old is old enough. And they will be used for the purpose of Language Arts with the intention of completing on time. They are so practical and gentle and I wish that I had homeschooled from the beginning as I feel my kids would have benefited greatly 😊
I also wanted to let you know that in my Homeschool Planning video, you can see the schedule that my kids will be using for this upcoming school year. I will be putting out a more in depth plan with in the next week so you can see how I utilize the planner and how my kids have access to their schedules.
