Jim Lieberthal she should have 150. The best operatic voice to come from this country thank God have mercy Lord amen and Glory Hallelujah saw her twice in concert 1975 1985 my wife and I fell in love in 1975. We went to leontyne price concert recital. In a beautiful Auditorium Concert Hall great acoustics. The three of us sat there thought we had been transported get my drift. I never heard anything like that never will again. When she retired at the age of 57. Her voice was still quite well if no one had ever seen her or heard of her before that and saw that Aida performance they would have said wow! I used to VCR 2 tapes I still have them. My wife is going to convert them to DVDs. Thank you Miss price forgiving us your great gift. The last great primadonna and that's a fact. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and so does she. No I am not black I'm 5% according to my DNA in the internet all caucasians in the United States have black blood in them they just don't know it. I do my wife says when you sing Spirituals you sound like a black man. She insisted I do my DNA because her mother was adopted Croatian she was illegitimate she did her DNA 18 nationalities 4% black. There's only three races. Caucasian Black Mongolian. Noah at Three Sons and all three went separate ways with their wives end of story can you dig it. She will be 92 soon but like my grandfather live to be a hundred and two my other grandfather 98. It came to America in the late 1700s from Europe I'm glad of that I have all three races in me thank you God forgiving me the best of all three. Leontyne price playlist keeps growing and growing. My daughter was mesmerised when she sang the Nile scene Etc that incredible Hi-C is she held forever no one else could do that. It was written for her. It was enough to resurrect Giuseppe Verdi. According to a book that I read when she sang in La Scala and Rome. Okay I've said enough take care and you got a laugh a little live live a little cry a little. Peace out excuse my typos I use the microphone when I make a comment I have arthritis in both hands. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.ARNOLD BOURBON AMARAL

Israel Hernandez I've been hearing it for years. Thank you UA-cam. I used 2 VCR tapes to record this performance my wife's going to convert them to DVD. Because for some reason the Met did not record it and released it as a DVD do to their lack of administrative leadership. Oh well The Beat Goes On . I'm. Moving
to Vienna Milan Paris Madrid I have family all over Europe so does my wife. The disadvantage of a young country the greatest art form in the world and one of the greatest voices to come from out of this country is leontyne price in regards to Opera. the greatest soprano to ever interpret opera...and a vocal genius. She found her 'diva gear' singing Verdi...but her Strauss interpretations, weren't chopped liver. And as bombastic and dramatic as Strauss is, he begged for a voice like Ms Price's to do him justice. And she did that, hands down.

You haven’t even heard every soprano who sang in the 20th century, so how do you know this?? I’m not knocking Price, at all....she was stupendous! But to say any singer was-or is-the best of anything is just silly! It’s not a horse race with a clear winner, bc the arts are subjective. If Price is YOUR favorite of the 20th century, that’s fine....just don’t make such pronouncements for anyone else!

My friend Sharon who died can years ago loved CABALLE PRICE and I asked her once what do you what do you think of Renata Scotto and she said I hate I hate Renata Scotto! My wife and I just laughed she had front row seats at the Arizona Opera House she said she understood Opera very well I miss her and my wife's best friend too June passed away 12 years ago to cancer bless her heart introduce my wife to me. Dave Glo ::
      (1)
Great singers can also have some humility.
      (2)
I was a great fan of Price's when I first started listening to opera ; as time passed, I heard other voices and became more discerning.
      (3)
She was a terrible actress. She lacked the virtuosity to sing _IL Trovatore_ and to bring that character, fully, to vocal-life and other Verdi vocal-demands. Her earlier versions were good, because of her youthful sound. Her later recorded versions were heavy-handed ; heavy-sounding, vocally. Her version of _Ernani ! Ernani, Involami_ was not good ( w / o the trills, as one example ). It took me many years before I realized her lack of virtuoso singing.
      (4)
Her rep. was limited, maybe by choice ; maybe by voice.
      (5)
Her speaking-affectations are even difficult for her to pull-off.
      (6)
      Her Italian-diction was criticized.
      (7)
Her Prima Donna Series were excellent.
Her _Carmen_ was her greatest singing performance.
      (8)
      Her upper-voice was glorious !
I really had no idea she was this conceited ; so I wanted to type a comment about her for some "balance" and I decided to "hide" ( like a coward ) behind your comment ! I knew I would be torn apart in the general area of the comments.
Conceit is never an admirable trait, I think, especially when there are greater voices ::
      Willamina Fernandez
      Shirley Verrett
      Marian Anderson
AND the majestic voice of Bumbry with her extremely-varied vocal-accomplishments
      AND others ...
A singer who thinks her voice is so beautiful that she "toasts" her own voice with champagne, is hiding deficiencies, elsewhere ...
Just my opinion. Don't "kill" me.
