THE 5 TYPES OF GERMAM SHEPHERD DOGS OUTLINED HERE: 👇👇👇👇
1️⃣1) West-German Working Line (refering to west Germany)
    a. This is the most popular GSD with a shorter hair coat and are calmer and more friendly around new people and children and recommended for families. They are said to make the best family pets with the best temperament.
2️⃣2) American Show Lines German Shepherds:
    a. These dog's are bred for show purposes. They can have a shorter or long coat. They generally are not used as working dog's or in guarding competitions. And mostly sold as companion pets.
    b. These are the most common German Shepherd available in America and Canada, They have a mixture of different bloodlines but do have a distinguished look.
    c. They have shorter muzzels, a slopping gait and longer hocks than other lines, they have thicker under bellies and thinner heads as well. When it comes to color this breed is usually black and tan and the color white is allowed.
    d. Make sure to get an American GSD with a pedigree to know what temperament your getting. There are a lot of backyard bred American GSDs that will have mystery personalities and temperaments.
3️⃣3) West German show lines or European Show Line German shepherds -
    a. They are known for being the most good looking out of the 5 types of GSDS.
    b. They have a black and red fur color.
    c. Because of their gorgeous looks, they make great show dog's.
    d. They are very similar to the American show lines but have alittle more of a guarding and protecting instinct to be a working dog.
    e. The European show line GSDs also make great pets and are better with children.
4️⃣4) East German DDR Working Line (Dourche democratic republic - meaning east Germany)
    a. The East lines are on the bigger side when compared to the 4 other types. They have a thick double coat. They are strong working dog's and often used as police dog's, military dog's and rescue dog's. They have a high prey drive and are triggered easily and should be monitored around humans.
    b. They regularly come in black and have the darkest color among all the working lines.
    c. This type of german shepherd is very intelligent but can be aggressive towards strangers.
    d. They are often not recommended to have around children.
    e. The East German DDR have very strict breeding rules and can only breed if they are free of hip dysplasia and other diseases.
5️⃣5) Czech Working line German Shepherds
    a. They are the smallest, leanest type of German shepherd, making them more agile and gracefull. They usually have smaller ears than other GSDs and have a short rough coat that’s easy to maintain and come in the sable color.
    b. They are calmer but are still labor intensive dog's, with great protection drive for police work and guarding but are not as aggressive as the East German lines.
    c. They are better as pets around children, but monitoring any GSD around kids is recommended.
    d. And like the Eastern dog's they have strick breeding rights and are generally very healthy dog's.
🐾So I hope you Enjoyed learning about all the different types of German Shepherds!!! They're such beautiful dog's, tireless workers, and great comapantions BUT since they are such an intense dog I hope you think 2-3x about if this dog is the right dog for you and your family. They require tons of training, attention and exercise.

No! I love GSDs the most. But a poorly bred dog will give you the tragedy of hip dysplasia and the poorly trained one will give you nervous biters like Major and Commander - the president's two GSDs that keep biting people they shouldn't.
If you have good breeding and good training, your comment holds 100% true.

We have 2, one rescue, one pedigree. Our rescue, Sadie, is a showstopper- large, long body, feer, and muzzle. I call her my Cadillac girl ! The lady we got our Luger from was actually driving past our house and saw us letting Sadie relieve herself (she had a drain and stitches in her front leg from busting through a wood fence 🙄), stopped dead in the middle of the road, and asked about her. Refused to believe she was paperless until we told her story. Both GSDs are wonderful, calm, well behaved in public, and too stinking smart - we're lucky they don't have thumbs! I only wish I could post pictures. Sadie is a medium long haired standard blanket, with strong reddish tones where the tan and black on her haunches meet. Luger is black and tan working line - tan legs and undercarriage with chocolate spots at the base of his ears. Agreed - best dogs ever!

If I may, do you have two boys and a girl, or two girls and a boy? I ask only because I would like to adopt a GSD to add to my current two which is a 9 year old male GSD and a 5 year old female Malinois/GSD mix. I've heard two females should not be together because they will fight for dominance, but my male GSD is the alpha despite my female constantly trying to challenge him.

@@RshadowA A wolf or normal dog places it paws in a narrow straight line, running slightly sidewise. With the German Shepard show breeds, the breeders tried to get the dogs to move like a horse, placing the paws not in line but side by side. That has catastrophic results for the bone structure and gives problems in the joints.

The german shepherd dog did not start in the 1960's. They started back in the mid to later half of the 19th century. Fun fact, it was a gsd that saved Warner Brothers from being bankrupt back in the 1920's and that dog was Rin Tin Tin. He was brought back from Germany after WWI. White gsd are not allowed in AKC show events sadly and infact are being bred as a seperate breed because of this which is stupid in my opinion, I don't mean breeding them is stupid I mean that the AKC and the American GSD club is stupid for not allowing these beautiful dogs to be shown. However, the AKC will register them and you can do other AKC events just not in the show ring. The white gsd are great dogs and I can understand why many fans of the white gsd loves them so much. Good luck to those trying to make them a better breed and in their efforts to set them apart so the AKC will reconize them

For me, the most beautiful German Shepherd Dog is the Old German Shepherd Dog.
The Old German Shepherd Dog is not an independent dog breed recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale), but the long-haired variant of the German Shepherd Dog. Its ancestors were herding dogs from southern and central German regions. Breeding of the German Shepherd Dog began in 1899 with the aim of creating a versatile working dog. The Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde e. V. (SV) was responsible for the breed standards from the very beginning. Over time, the association excluded more and more varieties from breeding - including the longhaired dog in 1930. This was met with incomprehension by many enthusiasts. They organized themselves into their own clubs and began breeding the Old German Shepherd Dog, which differs from the German Shepherd only in its coat. It was not until 2010 that the SV included the longstock variety in the breed standards again.

I had my West working line Shepard for over 12 years before she sadly passed away last month. She was the sweetest and most empathetic dog I’ve ever had. She was intelligent, full of energy and so great with kids. The first time she saw a child was when she was 4 years old and our friends brought their 1 year old son over. They wanted Trixie, our GSD, to meet him. I was a little nervous not knowing how she would respond, but she instantly fell in love with their baby boy and was so gentle with him as she played with him. Later on she met more and more of our friends’ kids and just adored them all. Easily the best dog I’ve ever had and would absolutely get another once our baby is born and is a little older. I’ve had family members that don’t understand GSDs constantly tell me that they’re too aggressive to be around kids. If you’re talking about the East DDR, then I would agree that it’s probably not a good idea, but for the West, I wouldn’t want another dog for our family.

Which imo is part of the reason why shepherds hips have gone downhill so much and so prone to hip joint issues. its just not a natural functional conformation for the way the dogs are meant to move. if you look at old photos of the lines they did not start outlike that. The breed started with a straight back.. the severely sloped hips are a result of overbreeding and human meddling that is just causing sad health outcomes for our dogs in the name of 'beauty' and because ridiculous breeders thinks its 'cute' or more 'dignified' looking (not sure how nearly dragging your a$$ on the ground is dignified but ::shrug:: im not a breeder )

My 97pound lapdog, Gerda, is my third East German GSD. I was shocked to hear them characterized as being aggressive and possibly even dangerous. Nothing could be further from the truth for all three of mine. They have all been delightful companions and family dogs with amazing intelligence and communication skills. I have recently begun training Gerda as a mobility service dog to help me as I am afflicted with a degenerative spinal condition that is becoming increasingly debilitating. She seems to be a natural. She is so calm and focused and learns so quickly. She is not the least bit aggressive and is always a perfect lady when in public. I think that there must be a good deal of variation in temperament and that early socialization makes a huge difference.

      Just hijacking the top comment
Another key characteristic between West and East GSD lines is the sloping back that West German and western countries promote (in their respective GSD associations) in their lines.
East Germany and the Soviet Union however found the idea of working GSD being used as show dogs to be decadent and bourgeoisie. As a result they had strict rules on the form of their GSD, including a squared back/hind part of the dog.

Hello, I am from Germany. I had a lot to do with German shepherds 30 years ago. It is true that there was a time when this "Tail Dragger" style type of breed was very popular here. However, over time, with increasing problems, this process was reversed. Many still don't have a really straight back, but it's not as bad as it was back then. A rethink has also taken place in West Germany. I would not recommend a working line dog to everyone. They are high energy dogs and very demanding. If you are a low energy person, the dog will try to dominate you. And believe me, a male GSD can be really tough. Especially if he has come to the conclusion that he is the leader of the pack. So don't always want the best but choose the one that you feel suits you best. A Show line GSD can also be a very nice dog. It also depends a lot on the breeder.

I agree, most people who get a working line don’t understand them. I personally would only have a working line, but that’s because I’ve worked with them for over 12 years and my family has raised other high drive breeds since before I was born. I would not recommend them to a first time dog owner, but they are the only one that would want at the same time.

Females are probably even worse, since they don't automatically bond to one person as easily as males. I have a female now, and she is a handful, even though she is never left alone, has plenty of attention and exercise. She's 9 months old, but she's 90 pounds and doesn't want to respect authority. She's getting better, but I know she won't really calm down until she's about 2 years old.

I have 2 GSDs. One is East German lines and boy, that dog is ALWAYS on. Super protective, the energy of a malinois, and extremely headstrong. He is thin and wiry, but stronger than you could ever imagine. Even after having him neutered, he is horribly dog aggresive and always on guard with people. He is a fantastic natural herder, and is unbelievably smart. He picks up language cues faster than any dog I've ever seen. My other one is a biscuit colored female, American and European lines. She is about as aggressive as a marshmallow, but she will patrol and bark at strangers to sound an alarm. She was bred for personality, and she REALLY has a wonderful companionship personality. Always beside us no matter what and very affectionate. She is an amazing natural herder, as well as extremely athletic. I wouldn't say she is nearly as smart as our East German boy, she is really miles behind him as far as intelligence. There's just no comparison. To anyone wanting one of these dogs-DO NOT get one unless everyone in your family has a strong, leader-type personality, and for heaven's sake do not ever get one unless everyone in the family can physically handle a dog that strong. Seriously, they are very rough animals and have no idea. They play rough and aggressive, they live rough and aggressive a lot of the time. They also have puppy brains for at least 2 years. It can be rough if you aren't the right type of person to put up with it. Yes, you can train them to be less toothy when playing, but it isn't fool proof. Interact with this breed a lot before you buy.

Thank you for the excellent point that everyone in the family should be able to work with the dog. I know a couple of men who chose more aggressive dogs because they wanted a guardian type of dog while they were away from home. In both cases it got to a situation where their wife was not happy with the dog's behaviour and for a long time the man couldn't see any issues. If you get a large working dog not as a companion, deliberately, your partner has got to be equally involved in training or rethink your ideas! 😊

Technically not a GSD, but I love the Shiloh Shepherd! Bred mostly from German lines starting in the 1970s, but with a tiny bit of Malamute as well. Some have short coats, but most are long coated dogs. More laid back than the GSD and with a less aggressive temperament, the Shiloh makes an excellent family pet and protector of children. They tend to be even larger than GSDs, come in many colors, and are stunning dogs. Internal breed politics has caused them to have THREE separate registries, but all of them have strict breeding standards. This is good, because the breeding pool is relatively small and inbreeding is always a concern. I have two Shilohs and they are the best dogs I've ever owned.

The dog she has is a Czech GSD. I have owned two of them. Mine were both females, and good with people, but not with other digs. Highly protective, but also wonderful pets. The GSD was created in the 1800s in Germany by a German cavalry captain from a shepherd s dog, which was a wolf dog (part wolf). The Czech line is a mix of the DDR GSD bred with Czech wolves, so its different from the DDR , as it has more wolf in its genetic makeup. Its highly intelligent. Showlines suffer from many genetic issues due to breeding "desirable" body types., leading to bad hip issues. Working line dogs tend to be far less prone to things like hip dysplasia. My two cents from personal experience and much research.

I think you're confusing the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog with the Czech working line GSD, which was originally bred from the DDR working line Shepherds starting in the mid 1950s. The Czech GSD has no wolf in its lineage at all.
I know someone that has a CWD and a Wolf / GSD mix, the CWD is an amazing dog. looks like a dog that resembles a wolf, the Wolf / GSD looks far more like a wolf and is, frankly, a bit scary to watch. The owner is a great trainer and has complete control of both, but you always sense the independence and wild nature of the mix, just another planet compared to the CWD which acts and seems far more similar to a GSD. The beauty of the CWD is incredible, from the proportions to the tan / brown colouring, and an extraordinary face.

I have 2 all black GSDs, who are 2 years old. One is a DDR working line and the other is a long hair Czech working line. They are both amazing, gentle girls. They have been thoroughly socialized since they were 4 months old, and that makes such a difference. They are also given the opportunity to play and get their much needed exercise.

My German Shepherd was black and tan with a bit of white. It had a white mix German Shepherd wolf ancestor. He was the 5 generation! It was a beautiful German Shepherd with a straight back and weighed 120 pounds. It was so smart and very protective. It used to howl a lot and was the best dog I ever had. It passed away after 15 years. I miss him so much! ❤️

The “show” lines can have horrible conformation and many can’t pass joint exams. Same thing has happened in other dog breeds, horses, etc.
What about the old fashioned, working American German Shepherd? Not over sized, strong backs, hips and family suitable temperaments. Protection dogs through herding instincts, which is what the original German Shepherds were - herding dogs.

@@lillieberger2883Thank you for seeing this clearly. I feel sorry for those dogs with bad backs, but people most certainly shouldn't be breeding from them with predictable future problems ahead. It's unfair and painful for a dog that is so active.

Schutzhund dogs have to have hips certified at age 2 before they can be bred. None of my 6 GSDs have had the slightest hip problem. It is all about the hip Certification. Since my latest boy has 10 generations of Schutzhund behind him, his hips are perfect, as is his temperament.

I have a 10 week old male East German GSD, he is my 4th GSD but 1st East German GSD. He is at least twice as active and prey driven than any other GSD I’ve owned. He is however, extremely intelligent, eager to learn and hyper alert. I’ve retired as an LEO and knew I’d have time for training, otherwise I would’ve chosen a west German GSD that are equally intelligent but a bit less prey driven (in my experience), he has proven to be an incredibly perceptive GSD, more so than the others I’ve owned. I believe the GSD’s and Malinois to be the easiest to train and most eager to learn/please. Just my experiences, I’m sure everyone has their own experiences as well.
Cannot go wrong with this breed but….. get a hip/health guarantee and feed your GSD only the best foods.

I've had and trained GSD's for..well forever! Gentle, firm. consistent, Show them..don't just tell them.
Patience..love..reenforcement rather than correction. If they don't come..don't call them twice (they do count)..get up, walk over, and take the leash and as you walk..say "good Come." Never ever call them to be corrected. SOCIALIZE with all sorts of people. Maximize their ability to enjoy people... You don't have to teach them to be protective it's their nature. Assure them..and then gentle them. They can easily over do protective and you won't like the results..nor will your GSD.

I had a longer coat German Shepard and I found her easy. She was around other dogs and people since she was little. Her mother was white. I got her off of a farm in Michigan. She was an easy dog. She was not really exposed to children until she was about three. It took her less than a half hour to fall in love. I got her son back when he was about two and he was a bit headstrong but a good boy. I love Shepard’s. She loved to run trails and open spaces when we went to Michigan. You can’t have them in an apartment. They need a yard. They loved the kid’s playgrounds. I showed them how to go down the slides. They couldn’t get enough of that. I taught them to not be aggressive and all it took was one time. You can’t let them be aggressive with other animals or people. Training is a must because of their size.

I have a male Eastern line working shepherd and he is the smartest dog I've ever owned. He knows verbal and non verbal commands, loves to search using his nose, highly intuitive (sometimes it scares me), innately protective over me and family members and loves children. Despite being nine, he still has the same intensity and drive as he did when he was a teenager. The only difference is; he not as fast as he use to be (especially against my Malinois), but still has the torque power. I wish he loved to cuddle, but never took to it. Not even as a puppy. He loves to be loved on, just not cuddled. If I could have another one of him, I would without question.

I have had two west German GSD they both were excellent dogs great obedience and very protective. I am retired police officer currently have a 3 yoa Czech male got him at 8 wks old. Now let’s just say he has been a lot to deal with much more difficult than my two west German dogs but through a lot of training obedience along with bite work training he is turning into a totally awesome dog. His prey drive was thru the roof so had to work on his defense drive get the prey drive and defense in balance and has made a huge difference in him. I agree with some of you in regards to a working line dog not being great for a family with children. Since there is a lot of work and training that should be done with these dogs it takes time every single day and these dogs want to work if they don’t work they get bored and then you get behavior issues. If you can’t train and have no clue how to please I would ask find a qualified trainer that knows the working lines and how to properly train them but you have to be involved as well you can’t expect to send the dog off for weeks at a time and then think when you get the dog back it will be fine. If you don’t know how to keep training the dog and not involved guess what you just wasted a bunch of money most likely. Anyway just my two cents worth

I have had 6 GSDs over 25 years. Mine all came from German GSDs with Schutzhund levels. My latest came with 10 generations of Schutzhund German lines. That have competed and won Champion awards. My dogs have been very healthy, no hip dysplasia and well trained. I give them my time, socialize them from puppy time. I socialize first to children, stranger children from parks and pet stores. I go to contractor lumberyards and ask every guy to great my dogs. Hence I can take my dogs anywhere. Yes they cost more, but given what I save in Vet bills and quality of life, it is worth it. They are black and red in color, beautiful dogs. They are crazy about me, get very excited when I come home. They have protected me from potential burglars multiple times. Every burglar has escaped my home quickly except one who was held in place by my GSD Heidi until the police arrived. My dogs know the police are good guys.

I had an all black east german working dog who was absolutely intense. We had to adjust our whole lives to keep everyone safe and her life in order, we rescued her and it was clear she was way way too much dog for us but then my kids came along and protecting them became her whole life so protecting hers became ours. I knew when she passed that i never wanted to be without a german shepherd again but we chose a much calmer pet bred white german shepherd whos parents excelled in obedience. She is much more social and it helps that we got her as a puppy. Couldnt be happier, protective bomb proof girl without the intense energy and nervousness.

We have a special breed of GSD that is a cross between a typical black shepard (mother) and a Belgian Tervuryn (father). She is one of the most beautiful shepards I've seen. She looks like a cross between a typical black and tan shepard and a Malinoix. Beautiful tan and black coat without the saddle. Medium size, about 65 lbs. Shorter coat length than the long haired Tervuryn, more the same length as the black shepard. But she has the coloring of the Tervuryn. Perfect posture and features. She could be a show dog if her pedigree were allowed. But she's also very sassy and high strung. Great guard dog too.

I've had a lot of different types of dogs over 70 years, Rottie, Dobe, Golden, Corgi and a West German working line GSD. The 'doggiest' dog, if that makes any sense, was the GSD. I rescued her before she was going to be shot by an idiot who was told that as a female she wouldn't be any good as a protection/attack dog. The smartest, most confident, loyal and well adjusted dog I ever had, after de-programming her for a few months. She lived almost 15 years and was loved by anyone who knew her and she loved them back.

I rescued a GSD. He had escaped from his family just before they were going to euthanise him (because they were moving abroad). Then I discovered that he had been taught to attack on command and you might be surprised to know how many teenagers point at a friend and say “kill”. Also he became afraid of being taken away from me so I carried a muzzle with me. People leave a dog alone if it’s wearing a muzzle so it kept him happy.
There were other problems when I first got him. My son still has the scars from a dispute over food. Fortunately the dog totally trusted me so I was able to bring out his best side and he was the love of my life.

Both of my GSDs are rescues. One was 1.5 years old when I got her, the other was just weaned. The older one has the American show dog look, however it was bred at a place where they only raised and sold their GSDs to law enforcement. The younger is a sable, and he is definitely has a different attitude than the older one.

I love any shepherd. Mine just turned 10 back in March. If I had to take a guess she'd be the west german line working shepherd. She's been a sweetheart since she was born. Gets along great with the neighborhood kids, any adults and any other animal, dog, cat, bird, squirrel and so on. Never shown any aggression. Also have been told by several people she is one of the prettiest gsd they seen. Not overweight but very large for a female, 95 to 100 pounds. Much larger than my dad's gsd. I know the local police use the first one, east german ddr. Sadly lost "Fury" their k9 to a rear end collision in the squad car. My friend who is a marine veteran just got a gsd puppy and wants to train for bomb sniffing. Very smart, loyal dogs.

Dr. Lindsay , This is my first ( But not last ) time seeing one of your videos.
I only have had German Shepherds as dogs , considering the ONLY dog to ever bite me was a GSD when I was 14 and a paperboy , He was a retired police dog and when i tell you he was good at his job ? THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT.
The Police and Animal control showed up as well as my father and they wanted the dog put down but left the decision to me. He had jumped the fence as think he must have felt i got to close. He tore my hand up and jumped back over the fence.
But as i looked into his eyes i could tell he wasn't mean as i had walked by him about 500 times without any incident . I told my Dad No, I wanted him to live.
Now my father trained GSD'S while in the Airforce at a top secret nuclear base that has long since been shutdown. My Dad showed me pictures of his dogs , He even had a solid red one ( Not orange or redish ) but red as a crayon.
And i fell in love with them after he showed me those pictures when i was about 5.
He even had one standing on its hind legs with his front paws in the air while my dad was pointing his .45 at his head. Still to this day one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen.
I absolutely LOVED your video and subscribed to your channel.
God bless you , and as you see by my profile picture is Loki , at 7 weeks his ears went fully erect and well the rest is history as in that photo he was less than a year old and is now 6.
He likes Females more than male humans but will play fetch with anybody and is GREAT with kids.
Again thanks for posting this video.

❤ you made a fantastic choice that I wish more people would make. They’re great dogs who can make mistakes trying to do their jobs, and I’m so glad you saw that even at a young age ❤ your story made me cry a bit haha. It reminds me of a time I met a veteran at a hunting store who had one of the calmest low drive malinois I’ve ever met. He let me pet and play with his malinois while I gushed over her he told me he will only ever have malinois or gsds as they always led him to safety during his time serving. He said “even in the lowest visibility I’d just keep my eyes on them and had no choice but to put all my faith in them. I couldn’t see anything but them, and somehow they brought me home safe every single time. I’ll never go a day in my life without one in my home.” ❤ hats off to her breeder though, I’ve never met a more docile “pure bred” Belgian malinois in my life. 😂

I know people that own them. They are very intelligent dogs and will protect their pack. My Dad taught me that they don't look at you as a human but rather a different type of canine, which is why, as puppies They will acknowledge you as the Alpha basically from day 1 , but you need to keep them trusting that they made the right choice.
I wouldn't own any other breed other than GSD'S.

I have 110 pound recuse pure GS. He was chained up on a farm for his first two years. I recued him. He rescued me too. He wants to play a lot. He needs running in the dog parks twice a day. Everybody jokes that he sounds like a horse. He does nothing with grace. But he loves me so much.

I like the East German, Czech old German lines the best. They are called more aggressive, but in my opinion they have a more robust and reliable character. Well trained they are good family dogs, but rather protective of their family.
They are mostly free from hip diseases and character flaws you find at least in the European show lines. The West German working line has been refreshed with east German dogs since the reunification. If you want a healthy dog, you look for flat back, hips and shoulders about the same hight, and they should not walk broad, but in line, like a wolf.

The East German line is my favorite, stunning dogs. I would love to have a dog like that, too bad I don't have enough space to get one now.

In the early 60s my parents bought our first Black Forest Bavarian. We then bought him a mate of the same blood line. They had beautiful, gorgeous puppies. Our first boy weighed in at 126. at full adult weight. All of the male puppies were large animals. Very family protective. The females a tad more docile. But they were one family dogs. The Black Forest Bavarians are predominantly black, with white and some tan matkings. The darker the muzzle, the more intelligent seens to hold true. These were also the dogs that the SS sought out to use in Germany for advance recon, tracking and attacking. Trained from puppyhood, to adulthood, with the right firm hand, and the proper instrction, they can be gentle boys and girls. But training is EVERYTHING.

I consider german shepherds to be in the medium category, with golden retrievers, labs, boxers, rotties…
Large would be the king shepherds, Saint Bernards, mastiffs…
Giants would be anything from some Great Danes, Tibetan mastiffs, some wolf hybrids depending on what it is mixed with.
I expected my GSD to be bigger than he currently is. He is in the 85-100 pound range and he is lean. He is riddled with health problems though. He has been neutered of course.

I agree they have been around for a long time. My sister-in-law's family bred them in 1950 and they were show dogs.
I also know that in the 50's and before, many white Shepherds were put down because they were considered poor genetics. Thank goodness this not the case now (as I understand) The whites are beautiful!

We have a GSD from a backyard breeder. She’s definitely interesting personality wise! She’s friendly but a wussy spoiled weirdo. She demands the lights off immediately upon putting her to bed. She also demands an audiobook read by Kevin Pierce only be playing! She doesn’t care which story it just has to be his voice lol. She will demand the lights go out and story on and not hush until everyone is in bed and quiet lol. She had other weird behaviors too
Too many to list. We love her but she is unlike any dog I’ve ever had big or small. She’s def a challenge and I’m glad our kids are grown because she’s so demanding

Great video, I have 2 Czech GSD's and I love mine, they are funny has heck and can be very affectionate. They love to play and go with you everywhere. They also love long hikes in the woods. I have my pedigree and my dog's parents actually came from Czechoslovakia via Canada, but my male is actually 100 lbs my female is somewhat smaller than other GSD's, but they are high energy dogs, so exercise is key they aren't made for couch potatoes that's for sure. Keep up the good work

My boy HavoK is a long coat West German show line. Time fly's. He's now 11 yrs, 4 months old. His Great Grandfather was Kevin vom Murrtal. His departed beloved Big Brother Kaos was a grandson of Kevin. His bark could wake the dead but he's very friendly...

What about the newer Shilo shepherd? Big, barrel chested, with longer, thicker coat. Extremely good temperament with children. My Hansel was a goofball, and a great hiking partner, and pursuer of cats. Lol! Miss him terribly. One of the best dogs I ever had.

I 'rescued' a small female Czech/sable GSD from an Amish farm. She was the last of the litter, and I got the feeling that they were going to dispose of her if I didn't take her. She is very sweet and athletic but too aggressive with my other GSD, Elvis. Elvis is a magnificent W German/European male and has direct lineage to a champion male brought over from Germany by the breeder. Both dogs require a lot of attention and exercise. If I had to choose, it would be Elvis. Because he is the King of the family and neighborhood.

I'm looking to become involved in fostering animals in general, be they dogs, cats, horses, even rabbits and guinea pigs, if need be. So while I begin building the resources and capital, I am learning and researching all manner of topics surrounding all the animals I intend to house as fosters
GSDs are one of my favorite breeds because of the protection and intelligence (plus all the floofiness of the people-oriented breeds), but knowing the difference between the genetic lines will help me -- or anyone looking to do anything similar to my goal -- because I wouldn't want to have an unpleasant surprise if someone showed up with a working line and I wasn't prepared to handle that, in terms of training, grooming, feeding, vet visits, etc.
This video was very helpful about which GSD lines might be the most adoptable by families, because adoption/rehoming would be one of my main goals.
