The light grey spaces in the middle are designed to allow longer vehicles to sway onto it. I'm pretty sure 40 t (88k lbs) semi-trucks as they are used in Europe can run here, trucks are shorter given the same weight than in the US. Also, this don't seem to be designed as a high truck traffic intersection.
On this 2 lane turbo roundabout it should definitely no problem. The standard max length of a semi trailer in Netherland/EU is 18.75 metre. That is 2.5 metre short of a 70ft 18 wheeler in US. And that difference is mostly due to the in EU common cab over truck design vs a bonnet truck. So the trailer won't differ that much. I have seen many extended city buses (15m) use a 1 lane roundabout, with separate bike paths around it. No problem. beyond 18.75m that would be specal regulations, but those would not have a destination in town centres. I often see a semi trailer drive backwards in a narrow town centre with bikes, terraces, light posts etc. to supply a supermarket. Really fascinating their driving skills. I reckon that rearward driving skills is more important for European truck licenses than in the US ....
Another question could be: How deal 18wh semi trucks on stroads with all the exiting and entrying traffic to businesses and homes along those stroads in US ? 3/4 of the roads leading to this turbo roundabout in Amersfoort are strictly for motor vehicles. There is a parallel road for residents living along this road (and for slow traffic. There is also an underpass for bikes and peds.)
Enter the roundabout from the 'middle' lane indicated with the straight arrow, drive around the outside of the roundabout until you reach the opening at 7:30 at which point you can move to the center, and then exit at the right again.
The left road is a local access road which doubles as a cycling route. Cars and motorbikes are banned from using it unless they are local access traffic. Since it's quite narrow you're gonna be waiting for cyclists and agricultural vehicles, which are banned from the main two-lane route. It's usually not worth your trouble to go rat-running on such a road.
Excellent vid by the legendary Brian "More" Moore
It's their name...
@@robloxlovera6362Okay, I see
Dutch roundabouts are the best in the world; my only wish is that people would indicate when using them.
how would 18wh semi trucks handle these on either lane?
I'm not certain about this specific location. The turbos can be designed and sized for the appropriate design vehicle.
check out Knooppunt Westerlee. the biggest turbo in the netherlands, designed for high intensities of truck traffic

Nice concept
very cool
Not much to do for cars at nine o'clock
Very nicely explained 👏👏👏
It is not explained at all.
Ako želite izbrisati polukružno malo je zakompliciralo 🤭
We should drive turbo cars in these

how would a car coming from the right make a u-turn?
With this configuration, there is no u-turn movement from the right. However, if u-turns are necessary, they can be designed to accommodate those.

Satisfying also intriguing to see nobody go on the left road
