Glad to see y'all are back. I loved this game as a kid even if the answer to half the bosses was spam level 3 force lightning
Fights like that of Alora's are the reason why I always struggled with the series' combat. Don't get me wrong, it's great and cathartic when fighting the reborn, but with bosses like Alora it's difficult for me to know how to counter, tell when there's a window of opportunity and have a control of my defense. So thanks for pointing out that strategy with Force absorb, I will try it in my next playthrough.
Great video, Jack! I haven't played Jedi Academy (as I previously mentioned, I played Dark Forces II many times as a kid), but it looks like a cool game with improved lightsaber combat. I agree that boss battles in video games have generally gotten better over the course of time, as combat mechanics have improved. As for level design, I still prefer the nonlinear approach (when it's done well, that is) over linear corridors. Of course, it's a delicate dance, as nonlinear levels that aren't designed well can become atrociously convoluted messes, but, at their peak, I think they represent the best in all of gaming. That's one of the reasons Deus Ex and the original two Thief games are among my all-time favorite games, as their levels are intricately designed sandboxes with a plethora of modes of progression, and the same is true -- to a lesser extent -- of newer games like Dishonored and FromSoftware's titles. Granted, immersive sims are one of my favorite design philosophies, so I'm kind of biased.
The Rancor fight reminds me of some of the bosses in Half-Life. While the boss rosters in those games can be very mixed-bags (and aren't the primary focus of the games), there are some standout ones that take the form of level-hazards / puzzles. For instance, there's a boss in the first Half-Life called Tentacles that are a bunch of (as the name implies) alien tentacles in a blast furnace that are blindly striking around, attempting to impale you. Since they cannot see you and rely solely on hearing, you need to quietly sneak around them and can even divert their attention by throwing grenades. You can't damage them, directly, but, by restoring power to the blast furnace, you can eventually make your way back up to the control room and incinerate the boss. It makes for an interesting and intense change of pace and is a standout part of the game. Have you and Alex played Half-Life? If not, I highly recommend it, as it truly revolutionized the FPS genre and is one of the best debut titles ever for a developer (yes, it was actually Valve's very first game). If you're turned off by the older graphics, the first game was remade a few years back as Black Mesa (which also made major improvements to the terrible string of levels at the end of the original game).
Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!
Great channel dude. May the force be with you. Greetings from Yavin IV
one of my favorite star wars game
Jack you sound a lot better! Unless this video been sitting for a bit but regardless I hope you feeling better!
You forgot to link the Discord in the description twin
Alright awesome video first off, and thank you for making it. As someone who’s played this game since I was 12(29 now 😂) and beaten it literally hundreds of time, I’d argue that Kyle was harder to beat than Tavion. But the bosses you missed are the top ranking Disciples of Aragon’s. The look just like the Kathos twins but are INSANELY overpowered. Two of them are on Taspir III and the last one is on Korriban guarding the door to the valley. All three of them have a different lightsaber style. The one that uses a single lightsaber actually has Desaans lightsaber if you look closely at it(nice touch/ nod to the outcast game ). But yeah I’ve died more times to them than I can count. Especially the one with two lightsabers . Fuck that guy.
There is not the only one rancor at Nar Freeta. If you walk at the bottom of this prison a lot, new rancors are respawning indefinitely
Did you cancel the video about the campaign ranking?
11:52 completely agree, Jaden is much funner to play as then Kyke
Yess dude! Rosh penin vevo is the funniest thing!
4:08 it took me far to long to realise that you can kill the assaaon droids with the electro gun even when their shields are up
"The Empire Strikes Back is forgettable".... what? This has to be a bait.
all 6 george lucas sw movies are unforgeteables
but the empire strikes back isn't my favorite of the original trilogy
my favorite is return of the jedi
Hell yeah brother
The female jedi is voiced by Bastilla's VA.
@@Cytonox They mean the female voice for the main character is the same VA as Bastilla. Jennifer Hale does that voice, as well as Female Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, Samus in the Metroid Prime games, Naomi Hunter in MGS, Fall From Grace in Planescape: Torment, and Dynaheir in Baldur's Gate.
Asuras Wraith!!!!
Now, rank the levels!
I don’t like how commonly the game forces you to do a balancing act of using protection to survive but also that you **need** to have at least enough force to push a couple times lest you get locked in a force grip that will choke you out while you can just watch painfully. And before anyone mentions force absorb, it locks you out of force regen and doesn’t last long enough when you have to fight two reborn at once, let alone upwards of five in some levels.
agreed, but I think that's also what gives Academy's combat its charm - you're always thinking, engaged
@@Cytonox that’s true, I love the game and have replayed it at least twice, but it’s just a little tedious when I’m trying to balance other things all at once. The tomb level is an example of both how to handle multiple disciples at once but how **not** to as well. The first half is excellent, but that first room with 4 is annoying and not exactly pleasant to play.
Complete saga >>>
Never played this game
I’m going to be honest think this game is overrated because I found it to be incredibly janky bc of its age and ik that’s unfair also because of its age but I found it too infuriating to play or enjoy and didn’t even finish it because of it
I agree, it's not easy to telegraph opponents and the lack of a block button or control of the defense can make it unnecessarily difficult and unfair at times.
Loved this game and the voice acting is so.... charming😅
