  • When you think of Woodstock, New York, your first thought is likely the Woodstock Music Festival. However, the festival took place 40 miles away in Bethel, New York. The true story of Woodstock begins with Albert Grossman, famed music entrepreneur and manager of artists ranging from Bob Dylan to Janis Joplin. Albert built a creative community in Woodstock, built cabins for artists on striebel Road, high-class restaurants in the Bearsville Center on Tinker Street, and a record label. Working with John Storyk, the architect of Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios in NYC, Albert also built Bearsville Studios. There, he worked with artists like Muddy Waters, Meat Loaf, R.E.M., The Rolling Stones and many others. Later, Bob Dylan would move to Woodstock to work with Albert as well as artists like Todd Rundgren and The Band. His goal was to also build an acoustically perfect theater - the Bearsville Theater - but passed away prior to its completion. It opened in 1989. In 2019, the facility was purchased by social entrepreneur and Organix founder Lizzie Vann who is re-establishing this wonderful facility for the current generation.
In 2022, this beautiful facility was outfitted with Danley Sound Labs loudspeakers and subwoofers to maintain the quality of the performance expected in such a historic venue.
