Such beautiful scenery and vivid colors in your videos. Almost feels like I am right there. You are blessed to be able to visit these great locations and catch these beautiful fish. Thanks for taking us along for the adventure.
Very beautiful video! I understand that many rivers are not accessible right now so I was pleasantly surprised that you able to share this video with us! Thank you and nice catches!
I'm going to be up in that area later this month and likely fishing single barbless waters. I'm new to this style of fishing. I bought some Lucky Craft 50s. Any advice on what size single hooks to use for replacing the trebles that they came with? Also, great videos, they're the reason I'm venturing into this style. Looks productive and fun. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Great to hear that!! For single barbless hook, I recommend #6 for 50S. Also you want to bring Pointer 65SP with #6. This creek, please do not hesitate to cast the lure to fast run waters. You want to cast down or down cross and retrieve slow and closer to wooden structures river edges. Larger size trout are there. Pointer 50S works for upper stream cast too, but you want to make jerk action for the lure and up/down in the water. Please have a fun!!👍👍👍
Appreciate your question re: SINGLE barbless hooks. That means one hook per lire. I couldn't tellif that was what the presenter was fishing but when HAt Creek originally went Wild Trout designation, single barbless hook artificials were the reg. Simply put, any release reg must be accompanied by a single barbless hook artificial reg to be successful. Here in Montana we're still forty years behind the times on the Bitterroot River, and looking at a 40% decline in our native Westslope Cutthroats as a result.
@@Angler216 Thanks for that Angler. I mostly fish around the powerhouse with fair success, but have not yet had much luck below the bridge. I'll just have to try a bit harder!
@@patsheridan if you are local let me know i live 5 minutes from here. I also have my own tackle company and i'm constantly out there testing my gear. Holler at me if you see me i'll hook you up with some tackle.
@@freshandsaltyjohnny Thanks freshandsalty. I am a fly fisher, and come out of the SF bay area. I'm thinking about heading up this weekend. Let me know if you want to meet up.
it's single hook barbless plus you have to fill out a report card in that section. Theres a park that has a parking lot with a wall where you can fill in the report and drop it in the slot. Too much work for me lol. I rather go to my usual spots.
By the way you can only use a single hook and it has to be barbless, in this video you have 2 single hooks which i believe you broke the law on this one. When i fish these areas i only fish with what the law allows which is ONE single hook barbless lure not two on a crankbait.
Thank you for your comment. That was my concern and I asked wildlife. Answer was that three single hooks = treble hook become illegal. 2 single hooks is okay. The officer I talked might be wrong, but that I do for it based on. They may change regulations. I will keep eyes on their handbook in case of updating regulations.
@@Angler216 No worries we make mistakes too. Just advising something i noticed. Since I seldom fish the stricter areas on a spoon but with a single hook that has the barb broken off. Which is rarely as i hate having to worry so much about the strict rules that apply to a certain area.

Beautiful fish🤙😁 beautiful location
I'm fairly certain that this is fly only...single barbless hook?
It is still okay for me to use artificial lure with barbless hooks based on Fish and Wildlife department lucky.
Yes
Ingrown the law

Hi, and thanks for this. I've been to Hat Creek a number of times - nice fish you got! Was this below the 299 bridge?
Thank you for your comment, yes that was below the bridge.

Any good spots this time of year?
Not good spot at Southern Cal yet... I only go NorCal this year. I think I would try to go Upper Kings in Sep or Oct to take a look.
Beautiful, where is that section, near Pit River?
The Hat creek CNR area confluence to Pit.
Due to water condition most of rivers are not fishable except this one at that time.
