One of the biggest questions we get when it comes to electric fireplaces, is many people feel that they cannot heat. So we decided to run an experiment to see just how well the fireplace can actually heat. we have this electric fireplace installed in a small room, about 200 sq ft. So lets turn it on high, come back in about an hour or so, and see how much the temperature raised. So in almost an hour, and the temperature has raised about 3 degrees. so the answer is, yes electric fireplaces can be used as an heater, and can be used efficiently as well. The answer is would I use it to heat the whole house? No, the heater just isn't powerful enough. I would definitely recommend using it as supplemental heat. I have a 1000 square foot cottage, I just bought an electric fireplace heater, infrared. The kitchen & living room is open, the kitchen is always chilly & that’s ok if I’m baking it heats up fast, otherwise it’s chilly because my larger refrigerator blocks the furnace heat from getting to the kitchen plus I have outside exhaust vent. This electric fireplace heater has warmed my space up to where my furnace has only came on 1 time in an hour and it’s 28 degrees outside, so I think that’s pretty darn good. My ceiling is probably 10 feet high, kitchen has 4 windows & living room has 1 large picture window & another side window which all face the North, which over looks the river 75 feet frontage . Without the electric heater my furnace would be kicking on every half hour.

@@terry7893 I bought it at menards last Fall, it’s 1500 Watts, on rollers with adjustable flame, and thermostat. Sorry I just checked & didn’t see a name.

Electric fireplaces can give off heat, it's just that they're not very efficient and they can't do bigger rooms, or as fast as gas can do. Raising 2 degrees in 40 minutes is a joke, and that's if it's not cold out. Try when it's 20 degrees outside and the house is at 60 and you want to heat it up. You'd be freezing for hours on end before it got it up to 73.

Yes true. Electric is better for places like bedrooms if used for heat.

I am thinking the requirement for one of these is that one can feel warmth coming off the fireplace, so it “feels” real, rather than relying on the fireplace to actually heat the room
