Marymass Parade 2012

This is the annual Marymass Parade that took place on 25th August 2012 in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. This is one of the key highlights of Irvine's ancient Marymass festival. The floats in this parade are still all drawn by cart horses. I had a small camera glitch and so I missed filming the Marymass Queen but I did get her "four Marys" and the rest of the parade.

Marymass is what you make of it on the day , As for any alienation that's not the purpose of the bands that play in our Parade , they do NOT play sectarian tunes , If any of you would read the history of our historic event you would find out more about Irvine's history and heritage .. I instead of just slagging our Marymass Parade ....Most of you do not know the hard work that we put into making the dress harness that we put on our Clydedales or the expense to ourselves , all to make the day good for the people of our town...All most of you know is it happens , ( if only )....Yes there is not as many carts as there used to be , simply because it cost so much to transport these horse and carts to and from our Parade and some years the Aberdeen Show is on at the same time and we cannot compete with it for prize money and expenses.....As for there not being enuf horses Clydedales or other wise , we try very hard every year to welcome as many to participate as possible .....You may think I am being nasty , I am not , I am just telling it as it is . with no frills ....I know what it takes a I and my wife own our own Clydesdale and he's in the parade every year , I am also one of the Carters ho has in the past helped put our parade on , so know the difficulties of this great day , and yes we have never got it right , but if anybody can come forward and show us just where we are going wrong , feel free , your input WILL be taken seriously ....But please just don't throw stones from glass house till you have done it yourself .....this is not meant to be a cheeky comment , just a true one .

It's become pretty pants in recent years though let's be honest.
Nothing like how I remember it as a kid.
A couple of pipe bands, a couple of horses and a few counselors in kilts last time I seen it a couple of years ago. Pathetic.
All the drunken idiots have deterred the good acts that used to come from all over the world.
Shame.
