Akeeba, my son is 8 years in Grade two , he can't read and comprehend. Have been following you for a while , and I must say you have really helped me. Thankyou.
Hey! Was this video helpful? (Was it too fast?)Check out the notes -- but don't worry about memorizing them. By the end of class we will have a written plan on teaching all of these!
Yes this was super helpful!!! It helped me pinpoint exactly what I did/am doing wrong and where I need to start/fill in. Thank you sooooo much. Lesson 3 please!!! Im learning a ton.
I’ve just started to follow your channel and am impressed! I don’t have children, but am a medically retired public/private elementary school teacher who’s grateful for your contributions to the homeschooling community. This is truly sound educational practice explained in a way that any interested parent or guardian can understand. Well done!
Amazing how comprehensive this video is and how you broke down the steps. Thank you. Your children are very lucky to have such a great mum and teacher!
Akeeba, I love this video. It is perfect. When I first became a teacher, my greatest fear was failing at helping my students learn to read. You have been such a blessing.😊
Akeeba, greetings and hats off to you. I am latinamerican mother living at India and raising a virtous child, your videos are a great help for her education.
Been watching a lot of videos here in youtube on how to teach my son to read and I must say yours is the most effective one. Anyway, he's just 3 years and 9 months and after watching your videos, it was really surprising that he can read up to 3-letter word in just a week🤩
For the first time I'm teaching 6 year olds who are just now learning to read and I just knew this video would help me. Thank you for sharing with us. Happy to subclscribe as well. I know I'm gonna lean a lot here.
I've been sitting on the edge my seat waiting on this video lol .You definitely have helped my tutoring program Grow! I've learned so much from you. Keep being the best🥳
I just found your channel. As a first time mom trying to prepare my child for kindergarten.. this channel has been very informative and helpful. Thank you!
Honestly, you ate my teacher and I lo e it cause you have giving me so much confidence in teaching my son to read strongly. I didn't know exactly where to start but your make it so simple!! I have your advance Phonics print out, along with teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons and also wooden letter tiles, and your videos this all has help me!! Thank you so!!
This type of teaching was done in the 80's when i started schooling. All of us are good readers. Than into the 90's they removed this curriculum using another style. Kids of today are in grade 3 and still can't read. Something is very wrong
Thank you for posting these video for free, it's truly a blessing! Is there I could donate to say thanks/keep this free for others who wouldn't be able to afford a paid course?
Hello! When would you recommend introducing phonemes? My little one is two years old and is currently learning letter recognition, what would come next? I’m new to this and really want to homeschool my babies. Love your channel! ❤️
Starting with my 5 yr old mainly, tho my 2& 3 yr old sometimes sit still enough to follow. She's enjoying it, what are some signs to know I can move on from the phonemic awareness stage. Thanks a million
I just found your channel. I am a former early childhood teacher myself and I am so thankful for your videos. I haven't been in the classroom for over 10 years and have forgotten some of these things. I'm looking to get a good scope and sequence for phonemic awareness activities. Do you happen to have one?
So my 11 year old is still struggling with phonemic awareness. He’s ADHD and doesn’t spell well. When he hears the sound “dr” as in “drum” he spells it with a “j”. And when corrected his favorite phrase is “that makes no sense.” He isn’t writing at all and we had to repeat “4th grade” (homeschooling) work due to the pandemic. His younger siblings (3 and 7) are now learning and seem to be surpassing him which is discouraging. What would you suggest?
Hi, No worries, that's very common. My oldest did/does that too - /dr/ and /j/ sound similar. He needs to spend a lot of time in the mirror watching his mouth movements. Show and tell him that the /j/ sound is made with the tongue at the roof of the mouth only. Say it very slowly a few times. But with /dr/ you poke your lips out like a kiss. If you are saying /j/ correctly, and touch your neck/voice box/throat, you feel nothing. When you say /dr/ you'll feel a slight movement. In terms of the writing - why isn't he writing? Does he not want to or he hasn't had to do much writing? Can he write letters?
@@AkeebaMaze That makes sense! I will have him do that. As far as writing, he was in public school until the lockdowns and his teachers were very discouraging. He struggles tremendously with correct spelling and and gets frustrated when asked to write a paragraph. He just refuses now and it’s be come a “choose your battles, he’ll get it soon enough” kind of thing.
I really need help , my son is 7 and is hard for him to remember letters and pronunciation. I’m having such a hard time . I hope you’re video will help me , help my son
Hi I have a 10 year old with Dyslexia and I believe we caught it late. Do you recommend starting this process now or is it too late? Also how would you recommend doing this with them feeling like “it’s for babies”? Those are her words. When I try and go back to basics she always says “I already know this”. Also I have another child in 1st who learning the same so she notices that as well and gets upset about it.
Hi there I have a 5th and 4th grader who are struggling to read and are at a first grade reading level. Will I be able to use this program to help them with reading or is it already too late for them to catch up? Thank you.
Hi, it's not too late. You can start at any time, start with the basics, you can probably get them to a 3rd grade level within 6 months with consistent practice. Please keep watch the lessons, at the end we will make a plan together.
You have been so helpful, especially in unlearning outdated and inefficient techniques! I’ve just started homeschooling for a family and the 3rd grader’s level is below their 1st grade siblings so we’re going back to the foundations together - lots of mindset work too
Hi my daughter is 9 she is struggling with blending words can you give me some tips please the tutor is saying to skip it because she broke down when it time to do it

What would you do for kiddos that think they already know how to read?
You’re amazing for this! Thank you
Do you teach online tutoring/ remediation? Would you consider?
Really love your channel. You are just awesome 👌 👏 👍
I love this video
Hello I have a question, do you have online classes that someone can do to become as good as you?
Great video!!!
When would you recommend starting advance phonics
When the child is ready, usually between 4 - 7.
Have you also tried raz-plus or raz kids? Or do you just use reading A-Z?
I use all of the above!
I wonder if Lil' Phyllis Meets Her Book Fair Fairy is a good book for young readers?

It’s not too late, but it’s difficult because of the reasons you stated. I’ll address this in the next video.
Can you please share the name of the program?
Is this also help with kids on the autism spectrum?
Thanks very much
