When I joined the Marines in 1971 an old Man that I had delivered papers to as a boy took his flag down from his pole and expertly folded it and gave it to me. He said you can give it back when you get home. I carried it everywhere when I could and put it in a safe hands when I could not. I returned to my home town with the flag still folded. I went to give it back to the dear old Man and he had passed away. I am 70 now and I still have it. My flag and all others are precious to me.

They gave my husband the flag that they flew on the ship when it was on the east coast. I have a flag that the VA gave me when my husband recently passed away. He was, and I am proud of our flags. I'm a 71 year old Veteran who was a pilot their whole life. Yes I am old school and will be up front with you I have never liked hip hop or Rapp. I stumbled across your videos just a couple days ago and started watching because O think the first one I saw was " "Unchained Melody" which was so much of a personal song I leaned on when my Lady passed back in 2004. That video and others I have watched about Johnny Cash has really gotten me to like you a lot, how your heart is, and how you are a really good man. I have been so happy seeing you enjoy the same things us "baby boomers" did in the 60's, 70,s, 80,s. So I became one of your subscribers. Can't say though if I'll ever want to listen to Rapp, but for your music I might give it a try. Keep up the good work. God Bless you and family. JOE. Lake Havasu, Arizona.

he is telling the story of America. He is telling as to WHY we should show our flag respect. To see the positivity of it, no showing the negativity. Why we should not 'take a knee' or be disrespectful. the flag many talked about hanging in a museum is 'Old Glory'. It flew during the war of 1812 and when the Star Spangled Banner was written. Also each color has a meaning about honor, blood, and hope. If you like this song try his song 'Gods Gonna cut you down', look at all those donating time.

That we'll fight for, and die for, our freedom, and other folks' freedom. That we have the courage to fix our own problems and put in the work. Johnny loved THAT America.

I don't know that I would characterize him as a "Left Leaning Patriot". Sure he was against the Viet Name war, as were people from both major parties. And its true he made it his mission to speak out on behalf of the mistreated and the marginalized. Conservatives do that too. They don't necessarily believe that more government taxation and spending and regulation is the answer to helping the poor. And as a Bible-believing Christian, I am not sure what his stance would be on social and sexual issues. He definitely loved his country.

Since then I've changed my views a lot. There's nothing like out of control liberals to make a man conservative.
Check out Johnny's cover of Sting's I Hung My Head. Not related to this song in anyway, but a great story told in the way only Johnny could tell it.

Your introduction to this video, before you played the, “RAGGED OLD FLAG” video clip, and your sage discussion afterward, was the most important and significant reaction I have ever seen! You are TRULY, wise, beyond your years! You renew my hopes and dreams for the future generations. I'm feeling my own mortality at age 73, and I was beginning to fear that my hopes for the future, would die with me.
--->Some people could live for a million years, and never understand what you just explained in LESS than 15 minutes. Actually, you nailed it in the first 8 minutes, before you played the Johnny Cash video clip! But, your post-video discussion, really BROKE IT DOWN, for anyone who didn't understand. It was EPIC!
---> If only the World could see through your eyes, well, let's just say, we would FIND THE WAY to trust and love people, instead of turning, FIRST, to THE WAYS OF WAR.
---> We have a lot of work ahead of us, but, If you have any doubts, please know that, the World is a better place, because of YOU.

I think more than a decade ago I found Jonny Cash on some old records, and they brought me much joy. Thanks to his songs I discovered some other singers, like Gene Auntry due to the song "Who's Gene Autry?". And while I was trying to find meaning of his another song "309", (becouse I am not a native english speaker, and not good with symolism) I found Red Sovine's "Phantom 309". It's pretty much story told while the background music is playing, but you may find it interesting.

You got it right on what Johnnie Cash was saying. It is not about a particular flag in a small town but about the USA and what the Stars and Strips stand for throughout our history. So you got it right.

    " pledge of allegiance "
    And more.

Best reaction I've seen yet. So nice to see such strong Patriotism. You don't see that much anymore. We are a proud Country of people from different races and cultures who's descendants made and continue to make the ultimate sacrifice for our rights and freedoms. This Country has earned the respect and envy of the World. I thank all the Veterans present and past for your service to this Country. May you be blessed, watched over, and guided by God. Lest we forget!

Johnny Cash is great. I met him once, and he’s such a gentleman. This is a wonderful song, and will tug at your heart strings. I know there are probably more stars than should be at the time of each incident. But it matters not, the song is really a thought provoking work of art.

No, you're correct. The ragged flag of the title is a metaphor for America and the ideals it was founded on. It's gone through a lot, it's taken a lot of beatings, it's "sometimes hung a little low", but it's kept flying through it all.

This is America...everything we are and will be forever. We are one under this flag and we should never forget it. Much love. ❤

And BP please keep TALKING F those peeps that say you talk to much speak your mind please, it is what our founding fathers put on that piece of paper that represents the rights we all are entitled to.

If you're interested in Johnny's collaborations check out "The Highwayman" done with Willy Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings, four of country music's legends. They formed the band The Highwaymen. Thank you for reviving some of the most historic American music ever made.

People forget that just because they don't like the government they should still love their country. It's been through a lot and it's not that old. It's still learning and if we don't raise it right it'll just end up being another statistic.
