      Thanks! Yeah it’s good stuff I think! There are lots of resins out there, all are very expensive. This is the best priced resin I’ve found for name brand stuff and it’s as good or better than the super expensive stuff.

      McFly Angler I spent $20 Canadian on this, I think it is part for the course and you are the reason I bought it, you have used it in a lot of your videos so I wanted to try it

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 років тому +1

      Yeah man, not sure how much 20 in canadian dollars translates. But... I know the "bone dry" is around that price here, maybe $14... The other resins are a bit more depending on the size you get.

    • @kerrypitt9789
      @kerrypitt9789 6 років тому

      McFly Angler I think it is about the same. I got the bottle that looks like a larger diameter lipstick tube. All that stuff is pricey.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 років тому

      Lipstick tube... does it have a paintbrush in it?
      Yeah it’s expensive but, have you seen other resins? Loon is super pricy for less quantity, and deer creek I’ve seen for $30 and you get about 1/4 what you get with solarez. I think solarez is the better priced for sure, just all is pricy no doubt.

    • @McFlyAngler

      Yeah its decent prices! Still costs a bit to get into though because of the curing light. However once you get that, Solarez sells some amazing resin at a low cost.

      Stays more clear than any I’ve used before, but occasionally there is a very slight color to it. The ultra thin doesn’t do that though...

      I actually just looked at the date, it was June of 2016, so over 5 years ago. I’ll have to do another review and list of all the solarez resin soon. It’s great stuff, and while other resin makers like loon have some great products also, I find myself using solarez the most. Great stuff!

  • @dw8773
    @dw8773 5 років тому

    Solarez really is good stuff. Just as a heads-up to anyone interested, Ultra Fire sells what looks like your exact light (telescoping, 18650 battery, 5 second cure) for around $15.00 on Amazon. I had to wait a month for it to ship from China, but it was well worth it. I think it's the 502 B. Buy a couple of batteries and a charger on Ebay for $10.00 and you are set. Well, almost. You will need the applicators to make actually applying the resin practical. That will set you back 5 or 6 bucks. C'mon Solarez, include the applicators with your fine product. Raise the price a few bucks if you have to, but save people the hassle of googling up where to buy the damn things!

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому

      You can buy the applicators on their site. And all their new (smaller sized) bottles come with awesome applicators. The larger bottles are more for replenishing the smaller bottles.
      Yes there are some good deals from China. Just beware, those might not last as long. My light is going on 3 years, of lots of use, and still working great! But for sure, Chinese lights are cheaper, and can work for a short time to save some money.

    • @dw8773
      @dw8773 5 років тому

      @@McFlyAnglerThis is interesting. I was just doing some research into the best way to remove head cement and uv resin from jaws and I came across an exchange you had with Cheech from Flyfishfood on a message board in 2016. You were bad-mouthing Chinese uv lights and he pointed out to you - exactly as I did here - that your light is just an Ultra Fire, rebranded. Why are you acting like you don't know the truth?

  • @tannertucker22

    Thank you. How long do you expose the Thin Hard to the UV flash light and from what distance do you hold the light from the surface? Thank you.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  8 років тому

      I usually hold it as close as possible, and it depends on if you have a quality light or not. I had one light that I would have to hold for 30-120 seconds. I started using the one sold by Solarez, and it can be as quick as 5 seconds with the thinner formula's, but the thicker formulas can take up to 10 or 20 seconds.

    • @DenJSmith
      @DenJSmith 7 років тому

      No. It only gets hard if you expose it to UV light. It doesn't actually dry like glue or other resins, it cures which is a chemical reaction that makes it hard

  • @carlyoshizumi831

    I bought the solarez flex formula and the thin , hard formula .
    I put uv light on them for 30 seconds
    It tacky .thin put the lights 2 minutes
    Still tacky. I do not like the product.
    I'm to try zap glue.

      What light did you use? And the flex does have a slight tack even with a good light. But a good light never leaves a tacky ness on any Of their other stuff for me. Even a few seconds zap does it for me. I’d check to make sure your using a good UV light. One I use is super high powered!

Usually I go through all of it though before a year though. This one I forgot I had and ordered a new one so I didnt realized I didnt go through it.

    Will this work as a bonding agent like epoxy

    • @McFlyAngler

    Quick question. Do you need a UV light for the bone dry? Or can I just let it dry?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 років тому +2

      All UV curing resin needs UV light rays to cure. Luckily the sun gives off a fair amount of UV rays. So, you could cure in the sunlight. None of these (or any other UV resin will “dry”. So air exposure doesn’t cure it. You gotta put it in the path of UV rays via a flashlight or sunlight. I find the flashlight will allow you to cure it much quicker and easier than the sun, gets it to cure in the shape you want. You know? If you wait to set it in the sun, it will drip or gather more on one side than the other

    Hi dose this stuff dry Hard and not scratch. I need one that drys hard for a protective coating on my clay pens. I have tried a few other things big name crafters have used but I find I dont know how anything would last. After its cured I test it buy pokeing it with my nail and im sorly dissapointed. Every time I pulll back there a bigg butt dent/scratch in the resin. Then I think well then what the point in using it. blehh.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  7 років тому

      It won't dent with your nail unless your superman.. I don't find scratches or problems on the flies after use. But keep in mind this stuff is made for fly tying. I know they have some other resins as well on their website. They created UV resin (first company to come out with it) for surf boards, as a quicker alternative to the mixing type epoxy. So they might have stuff that is stronger, better suited for your needs. If you contact them, they are always pretty helpful with any questions I have had.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 роки тому

      I looked it up, turns out I. 1994 was the first time UV resin was used in the surf industry. I can’t find when it was first used in print though. Either way, it was invented in the 60’s apparently, so your right, solarez didn’t invent it. But I believe they did have someone that worked with them or something who also fished and maybe it was they were the first to use it in fly tying? Or maybe just first to use it in a large scale in industrial form. I’m not sure, I know though they are apparently pioneers in the world of resins. Lol

    You cannot cheap out on your UV light. The Chinese models are too weak, been using brand name lights now for a few years and there is no comparison. Just bite the bullet and spend the money. It will last for years making the price relatively low if you average it out.

    Solarez torches are made in China as well as their batteries. Henry Yan (ebay seller joyguy.store) supplies torches to Wahoo International (Solarez). He told me exactly which torch he supplies to Wahoo. He recommended the Mastiff E5 3Watt 385nm, which is the Solarez High Output Resinator. Compared this light it to my buddies Solarez Resinator and it is identical. Solarez Resinator costs $80 in Canada without taxes, and Henry's cost me $37 shipped to my door. Only took two weeks to receive it from China. Just thought I would pass this on in case someone wants to skip the middle man mark-up.
