portland has a very clean and easy to use public transit system. my only gripe is that it is too slow in certain areas, particularly around the downtown core. As a result i think its an underutilized system. Giving right of way to lrt or having certain streets in the downtown core be LRT only would do a great deal i think.
Our MAX’s already have right of way everywhere. When it is street running all of the traffic lights are timed and connected to the LRT network. The biggest problem with the downtown core is too many stops and since it is street running, they can only go 15-20 through the whole thing.
Oh no no no no Portland and s*** have you saw in the violence with antifa protesters beating up each other Californians moving in Portland people are angry this Metro system is also a joke anyways
Portland IS a VERY NICE city overall. I lived in Southeast Portland in Sunnyside on SE 37th & Belmont. ❤'d my apartment, ❤'d my building, my neighbors were all nice and commuting to work was ALWAYS SUPER EASY. I am a transplanted New Yorker though so to me, Portland was SUPER clean, friendly and a nice place to live.
id love to see some transit system start a fare program for railfans . ie 1 hour , 1 day . one month, one year . also have ceartain spots and times they can shoot. most seem cool about letting u all film for us.
I'm very impressed with how extensive Portland's transit system is, especially the Light Rail system. You can get from one end of the Metro to the other including Vancouver, Washington by Rail or bus. Only thing I would change is the downtown section of the LIght Rail, should be underground. Then again if it was I imagine the underground, would have been swamped with Homeless people and tents .
Great video! So it goes.... Two Bells (a trolley term), that I learned from several ex TriMet MAX light rail operators and mechanics. I have a couple of favorite ex TriMet employees who work at Willamette Shore Trolley: "Trolley Dave" Rowe and Neal "Two Bells" Berlin.
Do you think that Portland ever regrets not building tunnels for the downtown portions of Max? It just seems to drag on so slow through those city streets
+guinessbeer I honestly think it was pretty creative of them. They have it resemble a New Orleans trolley by having it run through the downtown streets, and then have it resemble a NYC subway when traveling under the zoo.
To be honest, the buses in Portland are boring as hell now that the Flxibles are gone. Everything is a 40 ft New Flyer or Gillig. Much less interesting than the rail network, which was my focus for the two days I was there.
True, it has gotten a little boring since the Phantoms left and there's nothing extremely worth filming. The rail systems got boring for me. I just like how there's more variety in the buses
Such a wonderful transit system in Portland. Thankfully the politics of that city did one thing right. Transit. Because everything else with the city is rather sad. Protests that are now violent, odd population base and mindsets. Outrageous amount of homeless, and dirty people.
I RODE IT FOR 15 YEARS 5 DAYS A WEEK- 2002-2018. 2 PROBLEMS. IT FALLS APART WITH NO ELECTICITY. THE SHUTTLE BUSES THEY USE AS SUBSTITUTES ARE A NIGHTMARE. ALSO THERE IS NO SECURITY ON TRAINS SO THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH SOME PASSENGERS AT ANY GIVEN TIME OF DAY.

Nice system. No litter. No graffiti. Clean and tidy.

You only saw the good side of it, I've been on one of them where it literally flooded...

It’s a cost effective solution.
they actually are building a tunnel for the downtown portion

Should've filmed more WES
Superfighterleo TV 2
You don't have to be so disrespectful. WES is fantastic, and we railfanners love it! Short line though.
Watching in 2020 ♤■
