  • Guitar Tone! Dial in! Amp settings, setup and unique EQ tutorial. How to dial in the perfect guitar tone and how to record guitar: explained by pro recording engineer Andrew Zeleno (also known as the teacher for his top end mixing course). We'll talk about how to get a pro sounding guitar. How to set up a guitar amp in the best way. Secrets I've been discovering during last 10 years will be revealed during 14 minutes. You were always curious how to mix guitars on professional level and it has something to do with recording first of all. Also it will help you to put a guitar in the mix. We'll talk about Gain, Volume or Master, Bass, Middle, Treble knobs. How preamp tubes and power tubes change your sound. We'll talk about how to record a guitar properly. We'll check what saturation means for your sound quality and find out how much distortion/overdrive you need.Also we'll check topics like: how much gain you need, what compression is, EQing only with the gain and Master knobs, why a guitar is the most difficult instrument to handle in mixing, 2nd harmonic, scooped mids. Also I'm gonna mention: ac/dc, DynAudio Lyd7 monitors, Softube Console1, SSL.
    Check the playlist with my videos on Mixing, Recording and we'll check a homework of one of my student:

    And here is little old me, got his Bare Knuckle Warpigs wondering why do they sound to shrill and fizzy, comes along this nice guy and tell you about what the master and gain knobs, goes to try it, not so much fizz, smoother, still open due to the pickups. Severely underrated channel. CHEERS!

    Thank you Andrew! My wife found guitar later in life and electric even a little later. I got her a Yamaha THR30II
    for a practice amp. (A bit much I know) I’m sure she will grow into it. Thanks for explaining the settings.
    Couple of questions....We’re getting a bit of a 60Hz hum when not playing (being a digital unit I’m sure this could have been removed) A. Is this a simulation of a tube amp? Do you recommend turning on the “gate” function?
    Thank You!

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  2 роки тому +2

      Hi. I never had issues with 60 Hum with this unit. Difficult to say now. It's too old video and I don't play with this unit anymore to tell you for sure. But I use this unit just for fun in the other room. I have set it up once many years ago and I didn't touch it since then. Another great video Andrew. I would really like to see you do a video on recording stereo acoustic guitars using techniques such as ORTF, XY, AB, etc....especially for solo guitar when there is no band to consider. Just a big, great sounding fingerstyle acoustic guitar. And how to mix it, EQ, compression, reverb, etc.

      You can always start from a preset created by someone else. For example this: guitarpatches.com/patches.php?mode=show&unit=THR10&ID=11290
      But as Andrew constantly mentions, the most important thing to make it your own sound based on your own instrument/gear - 'coz every guitar would sound different. Use your ear to listen back and forth the original tone with the one you are crafting. It is a perfect tone crafting exercise too! If you do this with basic understanding of mixing rules, believe me there will be no guitar tone that you can't create.

    hi mate, hopefully you'll see my question here .. i have purchased a THR10C for its tonal quality after watching your video. Unfortunately, i have come across an issue with the "stereo mix /what you hear " option being not available within the Yamaha steinberg driver. There's only a Line Out and a Line In showing up in windows 10. Bottom line, i'm not able to stream my backing track + guitar. I can only stream the guitar alone. Could you help me out pls ? it'd be so kind . Thx a lot in advance.

    Nice! This Master knob is really an issue in this amp. If you want your preset loud, due to the fact that it doesn't have a global master, you almost always end up with muddy distortion because the master-section emulates the power-amp (-valves) as you mentioned! Cheers, might subscribe, good channel.

    First: I have a JOYO (BLUEJAY) tube Amp 20W and it have only 3 knobs - GAIN / "TONE" / VOLUME. And a switch for bright and normal. What is the proper setting in this case?
    www.joyoaudio.com/en/product/show_278.html
    Second can explain "presence"????
    Third some amps have GAIN - VOLUME | BASS - MIDDLE - TREBLE | MASTER. Is very confusing to understand this all. Again how set this properly?

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  6 років тому +2

      With the tone knob you decide if it's brighter/darker. I understand what you're trying to do but I'm not gonna teach you in comment section. Sorry. But due to your question use your gain and volume like I explained in this video.
