I enjoyed the twist on the usual format. For ways to handicap the pros in future editions, my ideas would be: •Make the pros play with starter paddles (like the ones that come with starter sets at Walmart) •Let the weak side be even weaker and use handicap scoring, like the pros start down 0-9 against 4.5, or maybe 0-4 against 5.0, playing normal. (No rally scoring or required formations.) •Move the kitchen line back (temporary line) ~5 feet on the pros' side. The lower the non-pro rating, the bigger you make the kitchen for the pros. •Against significantly weaker opponents, like 4.5 or below, pros have to play with non-dominant hand. •Give the non-pro team a pro coach to give suggestions during time-outs or between games, while the pros have limits on how much they're allowed to talk strategy between themselves. That could help highlight the importance of both strategy and communication (if the match is close enough). (In case it's not clear, those are ideas to do one at a time, not all together.)
More rule variations, to be adjusted depending on skill gap: • Shrink or even eliminate kitchen for weaker side. • Weaker side allowed to volley on return. (No 2-bounce rule.) • If weaker side has enough skill or tennis background to pull it off, remove limits on how high they can contact the ball on the serve. Such rule variations could highlight why the rules exist in the first place. The higher the skill level of the opponent, the more they matter. (I would expect that to be true of good/crappy paddles, too, having much more impact when opponents are closer in skill level.) Some silly ones: • Any hits by the pros that hit the net cord are either do-overs or faults. • Pros wear an eye patch over one eye, to mess with depth perception. • Pros play with those small trainer paddles designed to work on hitting sweet spot. • Pros drink some smallish amount (like half a shot of beer) every time they hit a ball out or in the net. •Recruit one or two expert trash talkers to roast and distract the pros during the match. (Maybe even given them an air horn.)
I really enjoyed it!! Keep this as a regular feature. Things I really liked: 1. players are miked up; 2. Showing the strategy discussions of each team; 3. Quality of the video is really good; 4. The "disadvantage" put on the pro team helps illustrate different aspects of the game, like the effectiveness of drops and ball placement. Here Adrian and Maximo did a good job of targeting where the pros were not. Again, I loved it!
I was surprised at how cool it was to see a panning camera from the baseline during the rally. The continuously changing perspective helped highlight the dynamic nature of the rally. Made it feel a lot more similar to being a player on the court.
This was more fun to watch than a lot of the PPA matches. Great camera coverage and luv the running banter on both sides. For extra content it would be interesting if Zane did a breakdown analysis on a separate video of what the 5.0s did right and wrong on a variety of points seen in the match. More of this for sure!👍👍
Very impressive again how pros cant get an edge over solid 5.0 with such a disavantage to begin with...this is enteryaining, fun to watch. Love this series

I've loved it! Great camera angles, loved the handheld footage at the back it makes you feel like you are in the game. Slow-mo all the interesting parts were spot on! Being mic'd up and talking strategy was great to hear! Brilliant 👏 Future video idea: pros play with terrible paddes or frying pan 😅 dress up in winter gear 😂 I'd like to see pros playing without dinking and no dropshots.
This was the MOST ENJOYABLE video I have ever seen in you tube for pickleball. It is awesome to see high DUPR level amateurs vs pros. The one up one back I liked better than the no kitchen shots with cincola.
Hell, I was sold at the intro reel kissin of the pythons. +1 to the Lab for making a black back wall - could use more facilities like that. Great production with the player mics - great stuff. The what are those... was a master touch. That was a lot of fun. Loved hearing the partner communication, the strategy chats, and the post match roundtable. Cool concept for a video series.
A very interesting match. It was also valuable to hear Zane and Jack talk strategy. Dropping the ball across from Jack was a great strategy, forcing Adrian and Maximo to slow the ball down. I don't think Adrian/Maximo ever figured out what was going on and how to counter it. The difference in capability (ability plus skill/experience) between the pros and the 5.0s was also very interesting. For ideas, maybe have another pro coach the 5.0s with the same format? That would help to know if the main difference here was execution or strategy... if the 5.0s could have won with a better strategy. They came close. Maybe add a final game as an even match (no pro handicap) to see what the difference is when it's even-up play. I like the idea of restricting the pros to entry-level paddles, to see what the impact is on their skills. The theme I see here is figuring out different ways to isolate a skill and remove it from the pro toolbox, to see what impact that has. Whether it's old gear, or taking away one tool in their arsenal (no dinks, or no drops, or no drives, or no spin, etc.), it's a way to figure out which aspect of the total game is more valuable.
Fun to watch! Realized that the difference between 5.0+ and 6+ is massive! Loved hearing the strategy! I wish you play a game with a 4.5 against 5.0s and talk strategy with your 4.5 partner. Thanks for making this video!
I think the length was great. Similar to a real match. The cuts were well timed and the little strategy talks before and between games gave nice insight
Yeah exactly. One person can’t volley on each team. Or maybe have the non volley person switch each point or possession throughout the match? Might also be interesting to experiment between rally vs. traditional scoring for that as well depending on what a more equal matchup would produce as far as scoring but matches might last days😂
Loved watching this! Another handicap that could be added in conjunction with a slight bigger kitchen for the pros would be a center line that runs through the pro kitchen were the person has to stick to the side they’re on at the serve. That would really work the comms, reduce the poaching, and keep a more agile or stronger player from dominating 70% of the court.
There are a few people I play with who are always in the back or midcourt, I can't see what they are doing so I know how your kitchen guy feels. As the guys at the end said it's really a different strategy game this way. Very nice.
I'm enjoying this one, Jus started game three. Highlight - Jack's personality and him switching hands on overheads. I know he's naturally right handed, but damn.
@@ZaneNavratilPickleball Maybe an additional time out, with both teams mic'd up. Commentary from the terrace. What is Jack was back, and you were at kitchen? Also, every five points, team up has to eat a slice of pizza.
Excellent play!!!! Great format!! I think you could do "call outs" like in street outlaws. Lower level. To give us a chance to see what it takes to compete at a high level. We all play local tournaments but it still doesn't hit right. If we only had a chance to play with pros....🙌🙌🙌🙌 What to improve..... Maybe mixed doubles with pro women as well. We all know how well you play with anna bright in the MLP! I do like the 1 up and 1 back. I know there were a couple of faults coming up to the kitchen with with 2 up. And no one back and you gave up the point because of it, i just think it would be ok if you had to come up to hit a cross but, go right back to keep the 1 up and 1 back. It shouldn't be a fault. The fault would be if you stayed up there for the next ball. P.s. i also agree with many here. Sideline breakdowns with commentating!!! Amazing and the cuts you did helped shorten up the video as a whole. But i feel thats what we want to see. No short videos because the pace of play is what we all want to see. ********* Idea******** How about the pro's have a checklist of things they have to do within a match. Like by the end of the game your team would have to check off all boxes on a randomizer type of board....meaning, you would have to ernie, bert, scorpion, tweener, ATP, reverse ATP(non dominant backhand) some of these things picked out of a hat to accomplish or you lose. LMK what you think. Hopefully this is the type of feedback you wanted. Always loved watching you play. Great job guys. Way to go with giving us more PICKLEBALL!!!!
Great format! Love hearing the strategy and how it changed throughout the game. Surprised the 5.0s didn’t try to bait Zane into volleying the ball more often. Get Jack some new shoes!
Super fun, shows real time problem solving. I would like to see the pros only play soft, fluffy serves, fluffy returns, 3rd shot drops, and resets. No drives or passing unless fire fight is started by the 5.0 team.
This game and choice of players was such a close match. Coming up with such a game is one thing, but finding such close competition surprises me even more. Fantastic games and lots of inventive shots needed to win a rally.
I’m glad you had some commentary at the end about what the 5.0s could have done differently. It’s fun to learn what the skill gaps are between 5.0 vs 6.0+. How about 1x during a point the 5.0 can volley in the kitchen?😮
Zane's ability to concentrate / see the ball with Jack-the-Giant blocking his view was impressive. Next time put Zane up and Jack back. Jack asking if dinking was "just a pro thing?" was funny. The 5.0s needed to dink and drop a lot more. (Says, me, a lowly 4.0!) 😉
Honestly, a series where you play games with your list of possible modifications would be awesome. Doesn’t even have to be against 5.0s. It would be fun to get all technical about why you chose the modification and how it will change the game. Then see your strategy change in game. Just a thought
The mic'ed players was fun. Time out discussions were fun. Zane being Zane is always fun. Id like to see pros start the game at a deficit. (Handicap) I'd say play non dominant hands, that would be difficult with Jack Munro. This scenario would also have been more difficult with Zane and a rh player. TBH I think 5.0s win every time if Zane is another rh player. Maybe not with Riley n., James i., Conner g. Oh yeah...... I'd also id love to see Zane and Jack paired up in the PPA. For some reason this video wouldn't go hi-def and UA-cam app wouldn't let me change the video quality, it said"unavailable". Pulled up the video on a browser and it was HD there and I could change the quality. Zane's other videos have never given me any issues.
Pros vs. 5.0s ideas: 1) Pros must only play with backhand. 2) Pros must play with nondominant hand. 3) Pros must play with a wooden paddle or not their usual paddle. 4) 5.0s play with an illegal or seemingly illegal paddle (i.e., delaminated paddle, Franklin Sweet Spot Trainer, or maybe with just the Gearbox Power Pro Elongated). 5) Pros must only hit down the line. 6) Pros must only hit cross court.
Great concept….I would pick these challenges over watching standard practice play all day! Some possible future ideas. * Pros have to switch paddles with each other twice before the point counts. * Pros have to play 2 on 1 until 4th shot? * Pros have to play with one hand in their pocket….😂 * The court is smaller for the non pros * The pros have to carry a bag of grocery’s…😂The losers eat something from the bag. Again very fun video! Keep up the great work I enjoy watching you play on tour and on your channel. 👍❤️
Awesome match! I would definitely watch this over PPA matches. Zane - you should start a new league using this format, and variations of this format. It's more entertaining than PPA and I can relate your plays better than the PPA matches even though I am only a 3.5 player. Hope to see more!
Love the video!!! Might be a little hokey but how about 5s(or 4.?s) vs pros going both ways with two hands!!! Must keep two hands on the paddle for every shot!
Great content! I'd be interested to see a pros vs 5.0s where the pros can't stack or switch. Could be cool to see how you adapt, might even give the 5.0's a shot if you're kinda stuck covering your side
Love it! Would like to see unrestricted play though. Just to see the contrast in strategic vocabulary. Maybe pros play with wood paddles or something to that effect?
You asked for feedback so here is mine. I hate rally scoring. Rally scoring only makes sense in a sport in which the server has a distinct advantage just because of the fact that they have the serve (like in tennis or ping pong). It does not make sense in pickleball. You should have to earn your points on your serve. Please oppose attempts to change the rules to rally scoring. Another unrelated point: use only one camera - the one from behind the baseline. It is much better to follow the game. Lastly, I love the facility! It looks like an excellent court space.
Totally get your point on rally scoring. For our purposes, it's good to try and keep the game times more predictable. Unfortunately we're going to stick with rally! The facility is the Lab in austin texas! Did you like the corner filming?
I have to disagree with the first commenter. Rally scoring is great! Imagine a really tight side-out game where the score stands at 0-0 or 1-1 for 10 minutes. Nobody wants to see that. In rally scoring the score would be 10-10 or closer to 15 which adds tension and excitement. The example about other sports doesn't work for volleyball or beach volleyball, where the receiving team has the first chance to attack on the point. Keep on rally!!
does jack have a channel or something cause i really wanna watch more of his games because im a ambidex too. trying to main my left while swapping rights on certain forehand shots
It's not really feasible, because all they would have to do is drop/dink, so one of the pros would need to come up to cover that, and then the 5.0s would just aim for that guy's body on the very next shot - which the pro would have no choice but to dodge. I mean, sure, you could play that game - but it's too easy to exploit and wouldn't be entertaining.
Another one you could do is make the lines on your side of the court 2x as thick. Consider most out balls are barely out at the higher levels. this might be fun.
Great stuff, new challenges: pros wear eye patches to screw with depth perception. pros play connected somehow.. bungy cord or have to hold hands. Also add ring girls.
I liked that you were all miced. Bring in a female pro against a mixed 5.0 +. The after analysis by both sides was excellent. I'd also be interesing to hear the younger pros take, like PH.
@@ZaneNavratilPickleball I think so. It would be good to see the impact without using drives in a pickleball game for pros. Of course, 5.0+ players can still use all shots available to them :)
I think MLP/PPA should take notes and seriously incorporate some of the production of what you guys made here into their pro matches. It reminds me a little of NFL mic'd up stuff. And please give your camera/editing people a raise.
I like the sideline assessment/ strategy discussions along the way. Great format! More please!
100% seeing how pros think vs 5.0s

Great content! I'd be interested to see a pros vs 5.0s where the pros can't stack or switch. Could be cool to see how you adapt, might even give the 5.0's a shot if you're kinda stuck covering your side
Nahhhhh we'd spank them hahaha
Great video and editing. Had me locked in
Love it! Would like to see unrestricted play though. Just to see the contrast in strategic vocabulary. Maybe pros play with wood paddles or something to that effect?
On the agenda!
@@ZaneNavratilPickleball yes the corner angle was very cool.
That's my favorite@@jfktoo5128
I have to disagree with the first commenter. Rally scoring is great! Imagine a really tight side-out game where the score stands at 0-0 or 1-1 for 10 minutes. Nobody wants to see that. In rally scoring the score would be 10-10 or closer to 15 which adds tension and excitement.
The example about other sports doesn't work for volleyball or beach volleyball, where the receiving team has the first chance to attack on the point.
Keep on rally!!
The team strategy session clips are sick! Keep those up!
does jack have a channel or something cause i really wanna watch more of his games because im a ambidex too. trying to main my left while swapping rights on certain forehand shots
Pros vs 4.0's with both pros back might also be interesting.
I like it. That would be brutal
Kyle did that to show the disadvantage of staying back in pickleball.
If you need people and are in Austin, my friend and I are 4.0~ his dupr right now is 4.000
It's not really feasible, because all they would have to do is drop/dink, so one of the pros would need to come up to cover that, and then the 5.0s would just aim for that guy's body on the very next shot - which the pro would have no choice but to dodge. I mean, sure, you could play that game - but it's too easy to exploit and wouldn't be entertaining.
Excellent. I would also love to see pro v pro but like talk about every play..but very interesting….thank you.
This was so fun Zane! Let’s go!
That was definitely fun to watch. I want a turn for sure!😂 come to Rafa’s club🤟🏾
Idea: Handicap pros by making them wear bandaids around fingers between first and second knuckles to mess with their feel.
Another one you could do is make the lines on your side of the court 2x as thick. Consider most out balls are barely out at the higher levels. this might be fun.
Subscribed. Tons of fun loved the dialog
Very entertaining. Variation idea- pros can only hit forehands…..including volleys.
Great video, would love to see more of it. May be pro can play any where, but neither is allowed to valley.
Thank you! Interestin!
I wish you color corrected your log footage. Really loved this match. Just curious if Jack normally serves righthanded and plays lefty.
Fun series and keep it going. Nominating Pete G to come play next time with Ryan D!
Pete is in for next time I eblieve!
Great stuff, new challenges: pros wear eye patches to screw with depth perception. pros play connected somehow.. bungy cord or have to hold hands. Also add ring girls.
Haha love it. Good suggestions!
Im dead when Zane said dude were playing for money 😂
Yeah bro I'm funding this!!
Bro is out there wilding with both hands
The 5.0 Strategy should be to dink battle to pull Zane up. Then hit it deep to Zane since he can't volley. Great entertainment.
They were clearly trying to do just that, but Jack is an animal and had no problem just covering the entire kitchen by himself for the most part.
Yeah, they started to figure that out, but a bit too little too late
Very entertaining, please do more.
I liked that you were all miced. Bring in a female pro against a mixed 5.0 +. The after analysis by both sides was excellent. I'd also be interesing to hear the younger pros take, like PH.
Great content! What if you started 4.5 vs 5.0 then winner gets 5.5 then winner gets pro. I’m a 4.8 and I’d love to see the difference in levels!!! 🙏
This is really fun and revealing!
Great format. How about adding in a game at the end where the pros play 100% and are not restricted so we can see how much better they are.
very intertaining... luv the commentary and strategy. would be interesting to see if pros cannot drive in the game?
That being the only rule?
@@ZaneNavratilPickleball I think so. It would be good to see the impact without using drives in a pickleball game for pros. Of course, 5.0+ players can still use all shots available to them :)
Love this format. For the next one - pros can only score on a body bag lol - everyone would have to wear the Covid face shields to be safe 😂
Damn that's rough hahaha
Really enjoyed the format forcing Zane to hit 3rd shot
An idea that might be fun for the next pros vs 5.0s. The pros aren’t allowed to drive the ball and can only hit drops.
I think MLP/PPA should take notes and seriously incorporate some of the production of what you guys made here into their pro matches. It reminds me a little of NFL mic'd up stuff. And please give your camera/editing people a raise.
Do not let Jack "loosen" you up.
We need more of this
This is a perfect example of "constraints" in practice to improve, a la the ecological approach to sports training
can PPA HIRE YOUR CAMERA CREW!? Really enjoyed the strategy dialogue lots ok nuggets to take away!
Hahaha i'll pass this along
