People tried pitting them against each other back in the day, but musically, they’re quite different and even stylistically, personally, and their whole vibe. They can’t be compared. I was equally a fan of both groups in middle school!! Of course, it was initially Spice Girls for me, as they more or less came out first, and I’d heard of them earlier… but by early 1998 I had found All Saints' debut album after hearing "I Know Where It's At" on the radio… and what a gem of an album, from start to finish!
This is what I love about Spice Girls, All Saints, and the original Sugababes. They were all so different, so there was no competition. I wouldnt add Girls Aloud and Little Mix to this category because they are the same, generic pop groups

She is on all songs in harmonies, she sings the second verse on Rock Steady, the first verse on Whoopin' Over You...she is heard alot more on solos on the appleton album. The Appleton song i Am Your Angel is basicly all Nicole.
Spice Girls and All Saints formed the first phase of the modern Girl Group era, and were joined by American Destiny's Child (which composed of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams) and TLC though both were formed 3 years before All Saints was formed and 4 years before Spice Girls. Second Phase composed of Sugababes and Pussycat Dolls though the latters structure is like of a traditional band with Nicole Scherzinger acting as its main singer. The third phase composed of Little Mix, Fifth Harmony, and Blackpink*. *-Though there are some K-Pop girl groups that preceded them, Blackpink was the first Kpop girl group to be in the same level as them.
Gotta love how everyone's rewriting the past these days and claiming to always have been feminists. All Saints did say some nasty things about Spice Girls, just like Christina said about Britney, Paris about Lindsay, Madonna about several women etc. Tbh all of it is completely understandable considering how young people behave in general. Naked by the spice girls on tour sitting undressed on high back chairs was the coolest thing ever also hear take me home which was a b side to say you'll be there..the spices were the epitome of cool and energetic ..all saints tried very hard to be diffrrtent and it was their music which I appreciate...they did some good songs ..which I remember more than bootie call

London Records had tried to sign the Spice Girls 2 years earlier and they went with Virgin. There was a clear decision to set them up as the anti-Spice Girls and create rivalry. Most of the comments came from Shaznay & Mel though. Nicole talks about in her book she wanted to chat with the Spice Girls at the Brits in 98 and Shaznay & Mel were not impressed. Karma works in mysterious ways!
