People tried pitting them against each other back in the day, but musically, they’re quite different and even stylistically, personally, and their whole vibe. They can’t be compared. I was equally a fan of both groups in middle school!! Of course, it was initially Spice Girls for me, as they more or less came out first, and I’d heard of them earlier… but by early 1998 I had found All Saints' debut album after hearing "I Know Where It's At" on the radio… and what a gem of an album, from start to finish!

There's just something about Nicole I love. Her voice and energy is so bright and cool. She seems so lovely!
I think Nicole should be the host of a TOP OF THE POPS revival.

That was hard back then being a Spice boy (still am) and liking some All Saints songs but I had to choose teams.. they used to say that the girls couldn’t sing and other things. The media moved on from their “feud” right into Britney and Christina 😂

Was a Spice Girls fan as a kid and bought All Saints' cassette out of curiosity due to the alleged "feud", i couldn't hate it. All Saints debut album was FIREEEEE. So so gooood. Love both of them so much!

I remember when i was in high school reading all the Smash hits, Top of Pops and reading about how ALL SAINTS hated the spice girls. I hated All Saint's for that. But finding out after 25 years that they actually didn't hate them WOW. 😮

Gotta love how everyone's rewriting the past these days and claiming to always have been feminists. All Saints did say some nasty things about Spice Girls, just like Christina said about Britney, Paris about Lindsay, Madonna about several women etc. Tbh all of it is completely understandable considering how young people behave in general. I'd appreciate it more if people owned up to their youthful mistakes instead of denying them.

Well I'm old enough to remember that All Saints did actually say some nasty and hurtful things about the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls never retaliated. I think it was more between Shaznay and Mel B though.

I remember seeing pics of Mel C and Nicole (and possibly Mel Blatt) partying together in 1997 or 8 in Smash Hits and feeling so betrayed that she would talk to them after they had always appeared to be dismissive of the Spice Girls' success 🤣
And then Mel B and Shaznay both appeared on a music show hosted by Jo Wiley on Channel 4 and you could kind of tell thats was where the tension stemmed from.
yeah its true but you also gotta remember they were all in their early 20s then and All Saints got asked about the Spice Girls in like every single interview for their first album promo but i get that after saying ''They are really good at what they do but we are a different group'' for 300 times in every country of the world, some day theyd be tired and say what they said. Mel C and Natalie became friends even in the 90s though and Emma and Nicole were always friendly too. I do think Mel B admitted she had a fight with Shaznay once at a bathroom at an event or something haha
@@Marc-zi5cq All Saints said in their first interview with Music Week "we're better and prettier than them". They were haters from the get go. London Records had tried to sign the Spice Girls 2 years earlier and they went with Virgin. There was a clear decision to set them up as the anti-Spice Girls and create rivalry. Most of the comments came from Shaznay & Mel though. Nicole talks about in her book she wanted to chat with the Spice Girls at the Brits in 98 and Shaznay & Mel were not impressed. Karma works in mysterious ways!

I remember Shaznay confronting Mel B about claiming All Saints don't write their own stuff, that was funny. It was on the Jo Whiley Show circa 1999.
To be fair even Mel b admitted in her book and interviews that her and Shaznay actually got into a fight a physical one at the time back then. The other members of both groups seemed to like each other though. Especially Emma and Mel C are very very close friends with the Appletons.

Loved them both but All Saints had an edge the Spice Girls didn't have. Spice Girls were fun but way too commercial. They never did anything as cool as Bootie call.

Naked by the spice girls on tour sitting undressed on high back chairs was the coolest thing ever also hear take me home which was a b side to say you'll be there..the spices were the epitome of cool and energetic ..all saints tried very hard to be diffrrtent and it was their music which I appreciate...they did some good songs ..which I remember more than bootie call
