Bought a 2004 79 series with the 1hz motor just this week. Greatest trucks ever made. Wanted something reliable that I could work on myself. I'd never touch one of those new v8's with all the electric mungo jungo in them. I'd probably need a degree in computers just to do an oil change.
Thanks for that video, thumbs up and subs. Really clear to follow. Just to make it easier to any guys having a go at this, take the fan shroud off as well, its only 4 easy bolts, gives you lots of room then.
G'day Ishobie, just a tremendous amount of effort goes into uploading your videos from start to finish, really want to say thanks heaps for the tutorials, for me is a great reference point when working on my 100 series & come across something I'm not sure of and always come back to your uploads, great backup. A little off topic here on this subject but I'm wondering if you can shed some light on my attempt at rebuilding my Schwitzer turbo for my 4.2 diesel, I understand the variables involved
Continued.. with this, obviously if the bearings have deteriorated & there is play in the shaft & making contact with the housing or the impellers have been damaged I would have professionals take it on but if it's just seals allowing bypass of oils back into the intake, are there kits available for me to repair this & if so, do you have an approx cost. Are you at all planning to create a video of this rebuild process in the future if you haven't already. Look forward to your reply cheers mate
Make sure when torquing the bolt that holds the Tensioner Pulley to the block, its done correctly, and no pressure is applied on it to lever the belt off. I just had a 10mm one fail on my 1HDFT (early 1HZ run 8mm diameter bolt) 120km into the Simpson Desert. Another great video! The part is about $20 from toyota and probably worth changing every 2nd belt perhaps.
They turn pretty easy, but you have to move a pretty big distance to do any damage - and there is no way I can see that happening. thanks for watching!
no the intake can stay - i removed it for another issue - I'm making a video for that:) Use a wrench - the camshaft has a notched thingy on it like a nut - just fit the wrench over it and hold it. easy!
Great video as always! Please keep adding more!! My no 2 camshaft is a bit misaligned (approx 2mm off) and I would like to correct it. Is there a recommended way to turn the camshaft? Also I would be interested to know what did you use to lube the pivot bolt? Thank you!
Great video. I'm curious about something. How easily to the crank shaft and cam shaft turn with the timing belt off? In case one accidentally rotates either of them during the procedure.
Great video_ now days more of these r coming to USA . Where do you order parts for them? Is it possible to buy from you? I just got my 73 last week and want to stock all parts possible.
Another great vid and good timing for me too (hah no pun intended) as I need to do my timing belt, and associated seals.. are those all the seals that need to be replaced while youre in there? Importantly do you have to remove all your intake for this work? How did you stop the crank turning when you undid the pully?
hmm, i dont think so - check Ih8mud - the thread i started - there is one bolt that you cant get at with the backing plate on - not at least on this motor.
Hi Louis, Love your videos, they're great! I was wondering whether you have any experience with timing belt/water pump kits by Gates? I live in Israel and original Toyota parts for my HZJ73 are sometimes hard to come by and always expensive.
Hi, do you think its worth it to change to an electric fan for the radiator compared to engine powered? for 4 cylinder toyota motors like 22r and 2l-t. I am wondering about the air resistance and if it would slow the engine down much, however the weight of a larger engine like this it is probably negligible?
need a little help!! can you confirm that the 1HD-T water pump will work on right hand drive FJ70? Looks like that's what you're driving but if you could confirm that would be great!!
ya - you'd never get it off without removing the plate - just took a good look, a poor design in my eyes, but allows you to change everything once in there.
@@robertraman6307 IIRC you have to remove all the timing stuff including the backing plate. I don't think there is any way you could access it without pulling everything. I did my water pump at the same time as my new timing belt and tensioner. I got everything from Cruiser Outfitters.
@@daviddelaney4106 🙏 thanks for the answer. I’m in north Sweden. The water pump is leaking a bit and the timing belt is older than 10 years so I’ll got a kit from euro4x4 but I need to get the oil seal for the backing plate as well.
Don't be a jerk. This guy is thankful about the uploaded video. UA-cam it's an international site so don't expect that everyone write perfect english. BTW : How it's going your Arab spelling?
the best video on this subject I've seen so far well done. Someone who uses a torque wrench

Yeah, no way my fan will come out with cowl in place. Had to take the front battery cases out too (UK model) to get cowl out

ok sounds good! I will but time is tight for this year - I'll start doing work on it next spring. Stay tuned!
Yes, Gates are a major manufacturer of good belts, you should be fine if you use one - if that's what you are asking. Thanks for watching!!
Well done, did this last year without any issues.
Would love to see how to set the injection timing on the fuel pump of the 1hz!
Great video enjoy watching these from Australia !!!!!
If you go to 0:44 in the video and freeze it you'll see that there is even a bolt at the very end of the pump that is well behind the plate.
Continued..

PowerModz so do you have to take the valve cover off to get the wrench on the camshaft?
Any tips for removing stubborn rocker cover ? doesn't want to let go on side near injectors...great instruction video cheers...
Very helpful. Thank you for posting.
Very good Video from Australia thanks.
Haven't done one yet - but will make one for you!

Do you need to remove the timing belt stuff if you only want to replace the water pump?
I'd like to do that as well, I'll be getting a timing tool at some point - just not sure when, stay tuned!
Great Vid, Watching from Australia. Would love to watch one on injector and glow plug replacement if you ever do one.
Great , clear vid!!!
except I have a V6-94 camry......
Do you have anything on that for the timing belt?
Thx
thank you so much. Was usefull for 1KZ-TE too.
Excellent instructional video. Very well done. Good drills. Thank you.
Great vid mate, Will be using this as reference when i do my timing belt today
Great video.
I'm curious about something.
How easily to the crank shaft and cam shaft turn with the timing belt off?
In case one accidentally rotates either of them during the procedure.
Nice and clear video, I watched because it's an interesting install
what type of sealant should you use on the timing belt cover?
Great video! When you put the gasket and water pump back do you use any gasket goo? or do it dry?
Doing my timing belt now which is being made easier with the help of the video.
MrW
Good video very clear instructions.

just wondering can you make a video of replacement for head gasket?
Nice video. Very informative. Thanks!

Hey thanks for watching!
Nice video, can the water pump be done without removing the timing belt? Cheers
No, half the pump ends sits under the backing plate
Can you please share your knowledge on doiing the service on you Lexus with Uzj100?
has that truck got an auto transmission? if so how did you convert it, what box?
Thanks for the video, what was the book called again please?

That's some good advice thanks very much!
Fantastic! thanks heaps, really well put together.
Good video would be better add the touque specs on screen with your steps writing as well cheers !
Is this pretty much the same procedure as on the 1HD-FTE?
awesome mate ,would this be the same for 1hz in a coaster bus
Yes I'm replacing a water pump in a coaster right nw and it the same thing
Thanks for watching!

i dont think it will but best look up the part numbers
PowerModz Do you have any suggestions on websites or other online resources to find that conversion
Pete again .. the motor is a 1HZ diesel .. 4.2 ltr
Well done mate.
Glad I could help!
What brand torque wrench is that mate
Полезная инструкция по ремонту!!

thanks!
Great video.
dunno I can't remember removing the plate to replace my water pump in my 1HD-T
awesome. thanks Louis!
1HZ motor too by the way.
The water pump I bought for my 1PZ has a metal impeller so they are out there. I hate plastic impellers.
Do you need to remove the backplate on the 1PZ to change the water pump?
