I totally agree with you Ezra, if anyone wants to write or create something authentic according to their own views and capabilities then fine but they have no right to change the authentic creations of artists from history.

This is one of my favorite plays. I luv Kenneth Branagh do an excellent job of making it into a movie. However, concerning this added nonsense, I would have left and demanded my money back. How disgusting. Shame on them.
The children's aid in stratford fly's the pride\blm\q2+ flag above the flag of ontario for everybody to see as you drive by, think about that for a minute. The very place tasked with protecting children. So this nonsense being added to the play doesn't surprise me.
I love this so much!!! Bravo, Ezra! Thanks for calling out Stratford. I agree wholeheartedly with all you've said. My kids were fortunate enough to get to work there. Macbeth in 2016/17. It was the absolute best. I love it when it's done right and without the political slants. Why cannot actors act anymore and instead choose to push agendas and alienate their audience and people that pay for them to be employed! It's amazing how little these actors actually get from the play. Let the play speak to people on its own. Shakespeare has lasted this long for a reason.
When I was a grad student, I read a lot of Shakespearean literary criticism & I can tell you that this stuff started many years ago. Professor Roy W. Battenhouse told us that Shakespeare was a Protestant poet. His book is titled “Shakespearean Tragedy: Its Art and Its Christian Premises.” So I myself believe that the attack is on Protestants and not Shakespeare. As you know, even the older generation before the war twisted Shakespeare. Every ism of our times has been tried. I saw some plays in London, Ontario, in the 60s & they were fair but they cut lines, which I did not like.
Its very disappointing to hear of the Stratford Festival Theater adulterating Shakespeare plays now. I have always thought their productions to be, without doubt, world class.
It is otherwise a well done performance. Saw it about a month ago. The moment Ezra is talking about, which is near the end of the play, felt a bit odd even for someone who's never seen any other adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing. Didn't quite put together that it completely alters the core meaning of the play at the time, but it makes sense that "I can sleep with whoever I want" was not part of the original writing. Kind of makes me question whether I want to see another performance or not.
I agree it should be made clear when classics are trifled with. (I wouldn't call it feminist but woke, as a matter of semantics.) This is bait and switch and very wrong. I don't like how it's sold, and I don't like what it's selling. I agree that fidelity is still important today. Gheesh, does everything have to sell some ideology? Can't we just enjoy stories or meals or drinks or anything without some political view being crammed down our throat?
This is ridiculous. I saw this production and it was very well done! This added one monologue and it does say that she added text right on the website an in the program. Honestly, getting upset about it means you are being too sensitive.
I'd love to see biblical plays, but that'd be offensive too. Most people don't live in the desert, so when they first heard the story, they didn't picture a desert.
If “Much ado About Nothing”, is about Canadian germophobia, I’d go see it. But I’m not sure they knew about “nothingburgers” in medieval times! I think they called them “papal bulls” back then!

If a play is a parody or a political/entertainment variation of original content, this must be announced as such before ticket sales.
Makes you want to stop attending plays in Stratford. As a Catholic I was offended by the language in Chicago last year.
