What a breath-taking place! I wish I could plant 50 dahlias like this and not stake them... Mine are packed tight, and even with mounding, staking, and corralling, they topple and snap in our strong winds, which come from every direction. This location must be well sheltered! I look forward to the day that more plant varieties available in the US and UK become available in New Zealand!

Aaawww, that brought back so many happy memories of past visit! When I saw the road you were on driving to Swan's I said "is she gonna go on the fairy???? YES! She took the fairy!!!!"🤗🤣🤣🤣 It's so sad that they had to cancel the festival this year, but I am so glad that they at least are still opening up the beautiful gardens for tours. Saw quite a few old friends that I'd like to reacquaint myself with - & quite a few that I might just have to get to know!!!! Oh good grief, Claudia!!! Look what your doing to me?! Your giving me the Dahlia bug allover again!!!!😅 My favorite part of their festivals was always going down into the cellars & seeing all the floral arrangements! There were so many & it was just spectacular!!! The gift shop I have been seeing in their newsletters & it wasn't there when we used to go (but looks like they have some really neat Dahlia themed things), & that's probably because that's where the original owners (the parents - the Gitts - lived). I was wondering what building that was in, if they had built one or what.🤷♀️ So thanks for showing us!!!😁👍

I just thought, wow this was hers and her families world, I know she’s going to love seeing all these Dahlias again. I’m sad about the festival too, but super happy they’re open to the public. 🥰 If they end up doing the festival next year and you happen to go, you have to tell me so we can go on the same day. 😍 You’re the expert, I’m sure you you’d teach me something that I didn’t know before. 🤗
@@InTheGardenWithClaudia another disappointment of them not having the festival also is that they usually had experts on hand giving short classes or demonstrations on how to grow Dahlias (because so many visitors come & then also want to become involved in growing). Such as how to divide your tubers, storing them, etc.

Well, i got my order a couple of day ago and the tubers are not as nice as I see in yt videos… they are from a local grower, and the only grower that I know of in my region… I hope they grow something!! 🍀

Happens to be my Mom’s name, so had to get it. ❤️But, I am on the hunt for more bulbs! :) We’ve got great soil and lots of sunny areas, so I’m crossing my fingers for success. Just hope the deer don’t get them!
What a great tour! I grew up in the Valley and especially miss it when I see shots of it. Hopefully next year they'll have their festival and I can go down for it.
@@InTheGardenWithClaudia Just a few were Mai Tai, Cheers, All that Jazz, Carolina Wagamama and Chilsons Pride, my first time growing this year in the UK, I bought a small batch of eight, planted them all up, a few day later I then watched a Swan Island Dahlias q and a session and following their advise emptied all my post and re planted deeper, astonishingly they all had roots and had started sprouting but I buried them under four inches of soil. I presume like everything we grow that’s the easy bit, keeping all the bugs and animals off is the difficult bit once their planted out. Your video was really enjoyable and I am now subscribed to both you and Swan Island Dahlias thank you x

@@InTheGardenWithClaudia Australia is a very beautiful place. I really enjoyed it here but America is and always home to me. The soil is very acidic and the salt level are higher, therefor, may plants cannot grow here. The more I watch your videos, the more home sick I am.

Congratulations are magnificents. I have recently planted some seedlings of ponpom dahlia, quite large, from seed. I wanted to know how much thish variety grows,if you ever grown it? If its produce a quantity of flowers of tuber etc...
Beautiful tour, how in the world to they keep the blooms so pristine? In order for us to have beautiful blooms we have to put organza bags on the blooms. And the leaves, not a hole to be seen.
Oh really!? Where do you live? I grow several of their Dahlias, and some others and I’ve never had to cover the blooms. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you’ll see several photos of mine. Dolly Yay!! The best part about Dahlias is your initial investment grows every year because you can divide them and get even more tubers for the following year. 😍 Don’t be nervous, I will help you. I’ll make a video of how to divide and store them once it’s time to pull them out of the ground. 🤗
They actually don’t stake their dahlias. If you look closely, they almost create a berm around each one so that they don’t need to stake. I think because they also plant them closely it helps them from leaning over.
I would like to know the information to the place that you are at I have 48 acres of land and I am trying to get more dog has I bought some from the Home Depot but I want more color
@@InTheGardenWithClaudia destroyed all but one last year from over-watering. This year I have seven different ones and trying to follow others who succeed regularly and excel. Will also try my hand at stem propagation. Hopefully, next year, I will not need to buy the ones I did for 2021, but different varieties :)

I suscribed, I love dhalias , I planted few in pots for the past 2 years , but this spring I want to make a bigger flower bed in my front yard to plant more dhalias and move my knockout roses from my backyard to my front yard because is more sunny .

Yeah they actually don’t stake any of their dahlias. Like I mentioned in the beginning of the video, they plant all of their dahlias pretty close together and then mound them up so high that they don’t really have to stake them. Isn’t that interesting?😍
Coast to Coast Home and Garden that’s so interesting! I suppose given they grow hedges of dahlias they could probably lean on each other for support. I’m planning on growing about 20 dahlias at my allotment plot next spring so I will probably still have to stake them.. lovely video and channel by the way!

Absolutely. Pinching them when they are at 12-18 inches is essential to get a bigger plant and more blooms. 🥰

@@InTheGardenWithClaudia destroyed all but one last year from over-watering. This year I have seven different ones and trying to follow others who succeed regularly and excel. Will also try my hand at stem propagation. Hopefully, next year, I will not need to buy the ones I did for 2021, but different varieties :)

I suscribed, I love dhalias , I planted few in pots for the past 2 years , but this spring I want to make a bigger flower bed in my front yard to plant more dhalias and move my knockout roses from my backyard to my front yard because is more sunny .

Yeah they actually don’t stake any of their dahlias. Like I mentioned in the beginning of the video, they plant all of their dahlias pretty close together and then mound them up so high that they don’t really have to stake them. Isn’t that interesting?😍
Coast to Coast Home and Garden that’s so interesting! I suppose given they grow hedges of dahlias they could probably lean on each other for support. I’m planning on growing about 20 dahlias at my allotment plot next spring so I will probably still have to stake them.. lovely video and channel by the way!
