2:45 During the Taiwan Straight Crisis of 1958 (first combat use of Air to Air missiles), a Taiwanese Air Force F-86 fired an AIM-9 at a Chinese MiG-17. Then it got weird fast. The missile not only scored a direct hit, which does not allow proximity sensors to detonate, but by some stoke of luck for the pilot the collision itself did not detonate the warhead. The missile lodged itself inside of the aircraft’s airframe. The pilot, realizing what had happened, flew back to base with the precarious unexplored ordnance. The landing, too, did not trigger an explosion. Although PLAAF personnel likely examined the AIM-9, it was quickly sent off to the Soviet Union for analysis. Some time later, they began production of a 1:1 clone as well as the more modified Semi Active Radar Homing version. And that’s how Ivan got the Sidewinder.
Not 1:1. The Soviets were able to cram one and a half times more TNT equivalent explosives than in the original missile. And slightly modified the proximity fuse mechanism to reduce the failure rate. So it's like 0.98:1
The aim 9B can have a influence fuze (ir) and or a contact fuse it’s likely the contact fuse just was not put into the missile as in the navy ops operation, description and handling document states that it is optional to include the contact fuse or the ground crew that assembled it did something wrong
Basically the same thing that happened to the Tu-4 except that was made from three reverse engineered B-29s that were forced to land in Soviet borders and they refused to give them back. It's pretty funny because when it was unveiled at a show they showed 3 off, and the US was like: "Oh that's where our B-29s went." Then a fourth one showed up.
I mean, if you can, they’re usually aren’t operation handling and description documents that may include or give you the number of the document that has the envelopes depending on altitude and speed
I have the iq of a goldfish, the snack not the animal, and learned nothing but was very entertained, thank you person who's name I'm too dense to spell
Simply, if you are walking across a room to talk to your friend and they see you and start walking towards you too then you will have met each other faster while also needing to not walk as far.
You made me want to try AB after only playing RB for the last 3 years. AND GUUD DAMN its fun, not only is it easy to get insane kdr theres also GUUD and VPO who think they are better when they really aint. Thank you for getting me into this amazing clusterfuck
The range and performance of the missile in general also increased with altitude because the air is less dense and your opponents have less energy and worse turns rates at higher altitude. Furthermore if you need to squeeze just a tad extra range still out of your missile then right before you launch pich up to like 60 degrees. Because missiles have finite energy and use rocket engines that don’t scale with power depending on the flow of air your missile will have a much more energy efficient flight path. Some missiles are preprogrammed to do this like the AIM54 and most other Fox-3 and it’s called “lofting”. You can also loft with air to ground missiles. It should also be noted that the thing in the video is also somewhat dependent on your own speed. If you are close to stall speed then your missiles will be slower when you fire it decreasing it’s maximum range. Same goes for the enemy. The best way to know if your missile is after locking an enemy and selecting your missiles, look for 3 tick marks and a box on the right side for your radar. The 2 small ticks are your estimated maximum and minimum range and the box is the minimum abort range (the ranges they probably won’t be able to simply turn around in order ti doge). Also with the Fox-3s wait till they are a couple km within that box to shoot. Almost guaranteed kill
Russian? It was Ukrainians that shot it down. Just cause they are pro-russia doesn't mean it was Russia itself. 🤦 Then again both the state of Ukraine and Russia are ethnically Russian anyway so 🤷
I just wanted to say your channel has kinda inspired me to play TTAA instead of realistic bc it looked wayyyy more fun and it really has been given that i'm not hell bent on grinding the whole swedish tree with my premium as I picked a plane I knew I would enjoy flying, not one that was good but thanks for this perspective its made me punch my wall less
Hey, you totally could patch that! You'd just have to track the average direction and speed of each aircraft over a period of time, say 30 seconds, and if that plane has been moving toward the one who fired the missile you subtract that much range from the missile causing it to vanish in mid air early if fired at such an enemy. It would be incredibly asinine, frustrating, and evil, but you could theoretically do it!
Absolutely love your channel man, believe the first of your vids I saw was “how to cheat with bullets”. Happy to see how far you’ve come in UA-cam, Keep up the good work!
turns out when you shoot it from a farther distance so it can track better and you understand their speed and the angle of attack it's easy. If you want to defend against these missiles from longer ranges, you want to make its travel distance and energy expenditure OR make the radar lose track, which in air arcade considering the footage, is near impossible unless you put actual terrain between you and them, not just getting low enough for ground clutter. (Like seeing the A-10 thats on the ground get spiked with an R3R in the worst position for a radar lock ever) You probably have seen clips like in air realistic where they are high elevation and a 7F or R27ER is about to hit them and they are going horizontal out of either radar scope or or change vertical elevation and the missile narrowly misses because of distance to travel or g overload. That is if you are going say within 10 KM to the shooter in high elevation, with earlier radar missiles it will be alot easier to just nose dive and simply out pace the missile because it can't keep up, some F-4C players have done this against me with both DFs and E-1s. (Then I simply AIM 9J them and shoot them out of the sky lol) You simply want to notch in a way to A. make the missile say change course to a more energy expending manner(in some situations earlier missiles lose track time and self destruct) or B. G overload them. there are a ton of guides not only how to use them but how to defend against them online. 10-11.0 is funnily enough in alot of situations because I will see a F104 or F105 while im in a F-4E and I just simply DF missile them and they can't do much in most situations.
Hey, A little trick to help you out if you have WTRI you can confirm this your self like we did but you can actually use your mouses scroll wheel to change the thrust type of your WEP/Afterburner between Low - Medium - Full. You can not use your keyboard throttle for some reason it wont accept that as an input though but this might help with making your jets fuel autonomy more effective.

Were people not aware of this? That if someone’s hot (traveling forward you as in their nose is forward you) you can hit them from way way further than if they’re cold(nose away from you running away)?
Great tips! There are a lot more things to consider when using ARH missiles. Your speed and altitude matters a lot. The higher and faster you are, the more danger your missiles will be. I bet the F-15 will become the best jet in the game when AIM-120 is released.
4:31 Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't facing the opponent head on double the speed and range not just increase it by 50%? So it would be a 4x difference?
It’s a front hemisphere attacking by attacking in the front it expands the envelope of interception but you cant make a video by making that short and this is to educate people about this information not everyone cares about the stuff and will overlook whether they’re doing wrong he does it in a interesting way
Aoeilaeiepae why don’t you use (I think U?) to see your missile before double tapping enemies you’ve already basically killed and therefore wasting missile?
It can sometimes be hard to judge when or if a missile is going to hit from such a long range. So, I fire a second shot from a no-escape range as security. It's arcade. Ammo reloads. Misses aren't the end of the world.
Yeahhhh it do be like that 😂 Imagine just how autistically balanced ussr vs us at mig21/f104 br would be if us jets finally got their Aim9Cs and not just the F8s 🤣

You have really nailed explaining the simplest concepts in the dumbest most patronizing and smug way possible. Not sure what I expected from a top tier air arcade player.

the AIM-9C is the radar guided version of the AIM-9B, but yeah for all intensive purposes the R-3R is the exact same
