The device whirs in Alana's hand, the silvery disc reflecting the neon arcade lights with a futuristic shimmer that should seem commonplace but doesn't. She frowns, turning it over and over. This has to be some compact communication device, which her instructors back in 3000 AD never covered. Then again, this era seems designed to defy her expectations.
Alana watches a girl near the jukebox slip something similar into the gaping slot, an earbud trailing towards her head. An immersive data feed experience? The machine roars to life with a scratchy beat, startling Alana enough to drop the disc. So, music storage, then? Primitive, yes, but strangely thrilling.
"Whoa, cool find!" A boy bends to pick up the discarded CD. His faded jeans hang baggy and low, and his hair gelled into gravity-defying spikes.
"Find?" Alana hopes her confused tone is believable. It feels like days since she tumbled through the wormhole into this era of beeps, buzzes, and what they call "grunge". Time is a tricky business, always prone to paradoxes. Hopefully, minor disruptions like hers will only alter the grand scheme somewhat.
"Yeah, like that!" He taps the CD. "Don't see these out much anymore. Tapes are where it's at, you know?"
Tapes? She's almost afraid to ask. "So, where's the station this broadcasts to?"
The boy laughs loud enough to cut through the din. "Station? It doesn't broadcast, dude. It's, like, an album that you play..." He pauses, looking closer at her. "Wait, are you messing with me?"
Alana must find that time machine repair manual soon. Or at least figure out a crash course in 90's slang. And then, hopefully, beam back to her own time before 3000 AD fashion catches on to some of the trends happening here.
SingularityDAO used to be my favorite token, still almost I sold my AGIX for SDAO when it flipped in price, but I like them both so much
