Both are never the same after this fight. The win diminishes Ruiz motivation to stay on top while the loss completely shattered Joshua's confidence on his chin.
absolutely crazy how hard aj hit ruiz & despite the knockdown, their was little lasting effect......however, the innocuous looking punches that ruiz landed, all of which were counters, had a profound effect on aj; physical effects that he never recovered from through the rest of the fight & psychological effects that persist to this day. Had ruiz trained for the rematch with the same level of discipline he applied for the first fight, he'd have retained the titles in similarly emphatic style.
I strongly disagree. Joshua adjusted his style in the rematch - much more distance boxing instead of the infighting slug-fest from the first meet. Ruiz didn't have the tools to solve that - no matter if his physique had been better
@@JanIllum I honestly think the fight would have been closer, but Andy Ruiz ate the world, for the money he won. He did not train at all, the money blinded him, and indiscipline marked him. It's the price you have to pay when you drop a few thousand dollars. Andy Ruiz could have retained the title.
@@JanIllum Joshua fought Ruiz in the second match differently because he was petrified of being caught again & he knew Ruiz's fast hands would land every time he stood in the pocket....AJ was gunshy & Ruiz was massively overweight because he had partied hard & not trained; had he been fit & prepared, the outcome would have as it was in their first encounter. AJ demonstrated this in the Usyk fight, choosing to box against one of the greatest boxers, in his weight, in modern times because he had no confidence in his durability/punch resistance. In the rematch, with nothing to lose, rather than fight offensively, in the manner that was so successful for him and took him to the very top and as a dominant champion and against a smaller, lighter, opponent, AJ chose to employ the same tactics again in the rematch & box........surely as a result of being gun-shy? AJ has nowhere to go now, he will not beat Wilder or Fury, nor any other fighter necessary to push for another challenge for the belt/s......unless he can revert back to the style that was his winning formula but even then, no one will fear him as they once did & rush him with head shots that he is most certainly vulnerable to.
I'm still mad with Ruiz for essentially throwing away the rematch after training in his fridge for months. Would've been a classic between him and Usyk for sure
Not really, you could see hints of this even in Klitschko fight, am I right? He was wobbly there as well, and I think it happened once more in some fight before this one as well.
@MR IV He let the first fight get in his head and thought he could do the same the second fight with no training 🤦🏽♂️ I was rooting for ruiz but he disappointed me
this is the round that forever changed AJ. he can no longer let go of his right and throw a combination like he used to. now it's always jab jab to prevent any chance of a counter. that's why he looks very rigid now, a bit Lewis towards the end of his career. AJ can't handle a combination like he used to because his chin is no longer granite. Ruiz changed AJs outlook as a boxer.
Joshua looks nothing like Lewis did towards the end of his career. Lewis' last 3 fights was the absolute demolition of Hasim Rahman, the annihilation of an admittedly past it Tyson and even when Lewis was old and fat, he still managed to turn Vitali Klitschko's face into mush. Even in the twilight of his career, Lewis was still an immeasurably better fighter/boxer than Joshua.

This loss made me really respect Joshua. He couldn’t have handled it any better.. unlike some other fighters..
he will have the opportunity to handle a loss well again, once Fury puts him in a coma
@@malamute4793 Fury couldn’t even knock wilder out, his team had to throw the towel in. Wilder is also a man that has minimal boxing skill and defensive capabilities. He’s also a bum when you consider the fighters he’s actually beat. Fury could never put any heavyweight in a coma he doesn’t possess that type of power. If he beats AJ it will be by points and that’s it
@@helpineedassistance4658 Agreed - Fury isnt a power puncher but definately the best heavyweight in the world right now bar none, and im an AJ fan. Fury would beat AJ unless AJ becomes twinkle toes and jabs Fury & moves for 12 rounds which is a very difficult ask.
@@oftheuchihaclan8325 Ahhhh see I disagree with that style for AJ. I think he has to take a similar approach to how wallin did against fury, just put constant pressure on him and try get him to slip up. I don’t think AJ will be able to out jab fury his movement is too slick for that in my opinion. Im more of an AJ fan but I certainly enjoy the way fury boxes and his story as a whole I just find his fans frustrating haha.
with 'chinny' having little of a jab, poor foot movement, and no head movement whatsoever he'll be getting plenty of practice in at 'being humble'.

They never mentioned how good Andy was till he knocked aj down 😂
Yeah he was underrated🤦He's definitely better than Jarrell Miller.
His left hook was amazing, but nobody talked about it.
Commentators are always like this, they bend everything to what they were expecting before the fight until it goes awry. I was watching the Toney vs Holyfield fight and they had pretty much written Toney off at the start.

absolutely crazy how hard aj hit ruiz & despite the knockdown, their was little lasting effect......however, the innocuous looking punches that ruiz landed, all of which were counters, had a profound effect on aj; physical effects that he never recovered from through the rest of the fight & psychological effects that persist to this day.
That a AJ punch was close range not a lot of power to it . That’s why Ruiz was able to take it

Electric, A tale of two Warriors. AJ was doing everything right and dominated 3:00-1:30. Andy changed it all with one punch and dominated 1:30 - 0:00.
The difference between their physique is unbelievable.
Polar opposites
I am the only one who is rewatching this because of legendary commentary
this is the round that forever changed AJ. he can no longer let go of his right and throw a combination like he used to. now it's always jab jab to prevent any chance of a counter. that's why he looks very rigid now, a bit Lewis towards the end of his career. AJ can't handle a combination like he used to because his chin is no longer granite. Ruiz changed AJs outlook as a boxer.
Getting clubbed in the head by someone with power and speed will do that to you. Ruiz is like a bear.
@@Jimbo8012 Yup, he was the perfect mix of aggression and caution, he was never afraid to let his hands go in a brawl either
He should go more to the body like he did against usyk

It put him right on his back....then in a 5 second moment as he waited to stand he realized his body recovered from the shock, he stood up continued the fight and ate another big shot. But this time the body was not shocked, and in fact absorbed the punch. It was at this time Andy Ruiz knew it was just a matter of time before Joshua went down.
