Just got a couple of Armorax battery powered cameras, one for my front porch, the other for my daughter’s room. Couldn’t be happier. Great battery life and so easy to install
Since I did not previously owned a Blink XT I have no basis for comparing this recent offering against the former but suffice it to say that I find the sound quite acceptable, in fact, better than that of other security cams I have. Granted, the video quality is not that of the Arlo Pro but then again the cost of the Blink is half as much. Again, I see the benefit of these videos and the possibility of doing what I'm doing: sharing and comparing information and our own individual experiences. During the last two years home security cams have really proliferated and, along with easy-to-install, inexpensive to acquire, solar-powered lights, homeowners are taking security into their own hands. Other than the criminals, everyone stands to win! Thanks LifeHackster for spearheading this revolution and making it possible that your subscribers get factual, un-biased information on these later offerings.
I had the 5 camera kit pre-ordered for a few weeks and then after seeing reviews roll in on Amazon I cancelled it. After watching this video I decided i'll give it a shot since the current kit i have is quite outdated and wired. Thanks!
Great comparison video. I already own the Blink XT and I was surprised to see the sound quality was so low on the XT 2, but glad to read in your other post that Blink was working on a firmware upgrade to the sound quality and you posted that the sound has since improved. I am mad though about a week or two can’t recall right now. I saw the XT on sale for $69.99 so I bought two additional add on Cameras so now I have 6. If I had known the XT 2 was on the horizon I would have waited and not buy the two XT but instead I would have bought the XT 2. I like the fact it has two way audio. I agree the new mount that comes with the XT 2 looks sturdier than the one that came with the XT. Too bad they didn’t think of that design initially.
You really did a good job on this video. Comparing the features side by side allowed me to see any differences between the first and second generation camera. Thank you, this was helpful.
To say the microphone in new one sounded poor in the comparison test id say was an understatement....... C'mon Blink after 2 years further development I'm gob smacked by that sound quality!!
ive had Blink a little while and its working great so far...sound quality?yeah it is so-so but its a camera to pick up bad guys on your property ..theyre not gonna chat with you anyway. Disarm it as much as you can to conserve batteries..if its triggering on you going in and out the doors , doing yardwork, kids running around etc theres no way the batteries will last 2 years as they claim.
that was.. A very good and in-depth review of the product.. Especially comparing it to the older version,.. You put a lot of effort into giving us a good idea of how this product performs... Showing us things in the software, and things you noticed when using the software... Those things are never in the instructions. Like the amount of time for the notification... Which is affected by the length of your video recording... That was an excellent observation to pass on to us. Good video demonstration, both day and night, and the footage markers which can be in important.
@@LifeHackster you deserve it you did a very good review.. I think it's well thought out.. And covers most of the main points, software and some of the quirks are often neglected.. There was a review on this product that I had to tell the guy he wasted people's time, his reply was, nowhere did I say I was doing a review... What the hell..? Everybody in the comments took it as a review, some were wondering how he could do a review on something he doesn't actually have.
New Subbie here; Blink is being pushed heavily in the UK now so I caved in and thought I would find out. I like to comparisons you have done on the original XT and now the XT2, watched them both. Yeah that microphone sucks on the XT2. Your review is straight to the point and very informative. Thank you. Keep em coming.
Blink won't be around for long, if they keep cutting corners to save money. That sound test was horrific. You would think by now Blink should have come out with 4k viewing and definitely a better mic. I really enjoy watching your videos. You're very knowledgeable and professional. In my opinion your special quality is how you pace your words. You make sure your viewers understand every word you say. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!🖖
Was looking for a battery powered indoor or outdoor camera and decided to get the Armorax battery cameras. Couldn’t have made a better decision. Long lasting battery, easy set up and each camera comes with its own wifi base station and they don’t even charge you for it
Recently some of the viewers commented on the audio of the Blink XT 2 camera and complained about it. Although I never experienced that problem I have noticed a significant improvement since yesterday (06/06/2119) after a software update announced by Blink. Once again I'm of the opinion that Blink is monitoring this channel and listening, not only to what you have to say but also your viewers' comments. If so, that is a very smart thing to do! The purpose of this posting is to give you / your viewers a heads up. Thanks!
I just got mine about a week ago and I love it! Unfortunately I had it pointed at my workshop the night my car got broken into! I have ordered three more and am planning on trning my house into Fort Knox with these things.
Great review. I just received the Blink XT2. I haven’t installed it yet, but I also have two of the first one. The audio on 2 isn’t that great, so I hope they can fix it. I will install mines in few days. Again, thanks for another great review.
I personally find the Armorax battery operated cameras much better. I bought the Arlo’s too, but the Armorax ones outlasted them by a good 2 months, and I found the video quality a smidge better too
Gotta say my 3 Ring floodlight cams blow the Blink away. But then they cost $250 each plus another $100 annually for storage. Oh and night is in color, does make a difference.
It appears the xt 2 has better night vision. In the daytime, I could not tell a difference in image quality. Although, I would rate both low in image quality. Thanks!
I got into security cameras after my stuff got vandalized. The property crime officer told me that almost all security camera footage he gets only is good enough for a suspect description only. With that said, I say Image quality is everything.
appreciate the work that goes into the reviews though. Who else does a distance measured quality test with video? no one. that audio quality on both of them...its poopoo tier lol. all i wanted was for blink to dethrone Ring with its doorbell using AA batteries. why must they disappoint me.
I can already tell you that it doesn’t work behind a window...any camera that uses a PIR sensor which is basically all battery powered WiFi cameras are not able to work behind glass. The only cameras that will work are cameras that uses pixel based or camera based detection which most if not all plugged in cameras have. Thank you.
It should be ok..remember though that it will notify you when it finishes recording..and depends on how long you set it to record...example, you set it to record 10 seconds..then you will get notified of motion 11-15 seconds later..meaning whoever is in your front door will wait at least that long before you know that there is somebody there..and another 10-30 seconds to view on the app and talk if needed..
Great video , Thank you I see from your demo this maybe good enough for my needs, I am only looking to use this setup indoors. But you really didn't show how good it is inside maybe you can do a video of the Blink XT 2 indoors. Thank you again
Very thorough review! What do you think about the quality of the video from the xt2? Can you also view footage on a computer or only mobile? Is it available for IOS and Android? Thanks.
The XT2 has a pretty good quality in daytime but not at night (black and white). Footage can only be accessed via the app but you can download it to your phone and upload it to your computer if needed.
I have a Blink XT that is set up in the backyard and it pick up audio well, Even base on your test the sound quality on the old XT is much better then the XT2. The update in my view does not worth the upgrade to me it. I instantly delete the email from Blink after reading it and realizing all they did was add two way audio. No upgrade for me.
@@LifeHackster yes I so agree with you on that and it very much is as shown in your testing. what I wish for is for Blink to add an SD card o the sync module for local back up. Yes the two way audio is nice, but they need to do more to make it upgrading worth while.
Thank you for this review, it was very helpful. Does this camera only picks up movement and records small clips? Or can it just show live footage without recording?
I want to see a video of which one you think is the best out of all of the wireless and battery operated ones that you've come across what you put as number one
YouorMe Hello, regarding the additional Solar panel. I presume there is access on the BlinkXT2 to plug in from the Solar panel? I haven’t found any description of it. Thank you
I just bought my first Blink XT2 to see how it would monitor my driveway. I'm not really happy how the video starts recording about 5 seconds AFTER detecting motion. Is this typical of all battery-powered cameras, or just Blinks? I also had to place one of my wifi pods in the garage so the camera could find the wifi signal. I can't imagine using Blinks outside a medium to large house where the wifi router might be on a different floor and 50+ feet from the cameras. What are your thoughts on this? BTW...I subscribed to your channel several weeks ago for your thorough reviews. Keep it up!!
Another great well detailed review. I recently bought the IMOU cell pro but returned it. The lack of customisation frustrated me. I like the Blink v2 however. Please tell me, if I have multiple camera system, can I set different settings I.e video length per camera, or is it one setting for all cameras?
First of all thanks for the excellent and detailed review! I just have a question in regards to the resolution of the XT2. Their website shows a 720P resolution when you speak about 1080P. (page I refer to is blinkforhome.com/pages/features) so what is the real figure? Many thanks again
Just recently purchased this and for some reason I am able to talk through it but person on the other end I was not able to hear at all still waiting for help from them, I wanted to purchase more but I will wait. Great review 👌👌
I recently went to Best Buy to purchase the xt2 camera I installed it and the two-way audio was terrible so I returned it back I'm keeping my Xt1 they really need to improve it and make it better
So I recently return the xt2 camera because of the audio you could talk and it sounds clear but when you listen to the audio through the camera is sounds terrible that's why I returned the first one now when and bought a second xt2 camera and a different Best Buy store 10 miles apart and I had the same problem so I called the company customer service and they send me a new camera through the mail I have the same problem as the other two xt2 cameras I am so disappointed I am going to return this xt2 cameras also they really need to step up to the plate and improve this problem
How high should sensitivity level be? I just got mine. Has anybody played around with it to find out if a lower setting stops identifying motion at a certain distance? Or is it just how much motion is detected?
I'm curious if you still have your Blink cameras and how they're doing? I've got three but I'm getting a little annoyed by them, but on a budget they get the job done and you're not going to get all the bells and whistles of the more expensive cameras. Wish they had AI as I get alerts on a cloudy day as the sun comes and goes behind the clouds.
I am looking for some outdoor security cameras, but I could not decide. Ring, Arlo Pro 2, Blink and Nest, which one would you say is the most reliable and worth the money?
rsyak you need to look at Wyze Cam v2....I was also torn between which to get until i saw I could get a Wyze Cam on Amazon for $25. Decided to try it.....I now have 4 of them.
New subbie here.... amazing and informative reviews. Just bought my xt2 yesterday. Audio is verrrrry important for the purpose I'm using it....so I'm very concerned if my box has the mic update you mentioned in another comment. If not how to I obtain this update... or will I have to return it???
Looking for a security system, face recognition would automatically make the system more expensive, but thinking that movement from the blink might be best so I can be notified to check out in real life what is going on. What Im wondering, when I am not around, can I use 3rd party app with blink auto detection movement to hook up to a smart plug so i can have a light turn on everything there is movement.
Life Hackster, great review as always. I live in an apartment and do not want to use screws to attach mounting bracket. What is the best product to use that will not cause damage? Thank you-Mito.
Great Video.... I live in a rural area with measured internet. Since this has to be uploaded to the cloud, can you tell me the size of a 20 second recorded video clip in Megbytes? Thanks. The testing process was excellent.
I have ordered a 3 camera system for home and a single camera system to watch over my tools at work . Will I need to get 2 accounts and 2 apps to use both base stations ?
I think I'm going to return my blink xt2, seems like it records late and delay notification is also very annoying. I was going to get Argus 2 but I saw your video which Argus 2 only detects 15ft motion. What would you recommend me to get?
Argus Eco... much better detection range. As to the Blink, notification is dependent on how much time you set it to record.. it will prioritize recording first then will trigger push notification. For example, you set it to record for 10 seconds... then it will send the notification after 10 seconds... which is usually 12-15 seconds in reality.
Another question? I need to park my car outside from now on and afraid that people will break in. Will this camera help? Also, can I set the camera to focus maybe 10 to 15 feet only?
Does anyone know if the firmware improved the alert notification and very importantly the video delay issue? If anyone that has a XT2 can reply that would be great!
Hi fantastic video again it’s a shame they don’t sell the blink XT 2 on amazon.co.uk yet sending my Reolink Argus 2 5 Camera back to amazon I can’t here people voices or cars going past since they had the updates on the app are you having any problem with your Argus 2 cameras
you do amazing review videos. thanks for your time and effort. Question... my BLINK XT does not work at night time. i get blank screen. i can hear the video but i can't see the video (at night time only). During the day it works great.. I'm thinking a firmware update will fix this.. do you know how to do a update on the camera?
@LifeHackster i turned it on but still no image. i can hear the speaker but no live video. I'm thinking a firmware update will fix this.. do you know how to do a update on the camera?

How high should sensitivity level be? I just got mine. Has anybody played around with it to find out if a lower setting stops identifying motion at a certain distance? Or is it just how much motion is detected?
It will depend on your situation and the area you are monitoring.. increasing the sensitivity with cause more false notifications..

I still have them and they work as they are priced and designed.. they do have limitations..
Blink is pretty decent for the price.
@@GameKollector Thanks, I will take a look.
Great video and comparative.
Thank you.
New subbie here.... amazing and informative reviews. Just bought my xt2 yesterday. Audio is verrrrry important for the purpose I'm using it....so I'm very concerned if my box has the mic update you mentioned in another comment. If not how to I obtain this update... or will I have to return it???
The update is firmware..just install it and will update automatically.
Very helpful review nice one
Hello friend, can I use the application and see what happens in my house with two or three android phones at the same time?
Excellent review
Thanks.
Hi Life Hackster,
Which overall do you feel is the superior model?
Blink XT2
Looking for a security system, face recognition would automatically make the system more expensive, but thinking that movement from the blink might be best so I can be notified to check out in real life what is going on. What Im wondering, when I am not around, can I use 3rd party app with blink auto detection movement to hook up to a smart plug so i can have a light turn on everything there is movement.
Life Hackster, great review as always. I live in an apartment and do not want to use screws to attach mounting bracket. What is the best product to use that will not cause damage? Thank you-Mito.
Use Sugru or plain old 100% silicone from hardware store.
A mounting tape should work too..the camera itself is not that heavy.
Thanks for replying
Good job.. Like youre reviews
Thank You.
Very informative thank you!
Fantastic review! New subscriber to your channel here :)
Thank you.
I wish ring cameras would adopt c or lithium battery’s in there wireless cams.
I actually like rings lithium ion batteries because they are rechargeable...
Please could you do a ring stick up cam vs ring floodlight cam comparison test?
Will try...have a lot lined up right now.
LifeHackster Thank you, I completely understand if you’re unable to.
Can you access the camera when you're away from your house? IE a different network, 4g or ip.
Yes.
Yes you can.
Thank you for the well done video!
You are welcome.
Hello there! How can I get the siren? I cant see any siren button just like what your showing in this video.
Great Video.... I live in a rural area with measured internet. Since this has to be uploaded to the cloud, can you tell me the size of a 20 second recorded video clip in Megbytes? Thanks. The testing process was excellent.
It is about 3mb
LifeHackster thanks
Was it difficult screwing it into your vinyl siding? I just offered the xt2.. cant wait to get it
I have ordered a 3 camera system for home and a single camera system to watch over my tools at work . Will I need to get 2 accounts and 2 apps to use both base stations ?
You can use 1 app and account .. you just need to add another system on the app.
No.. Blink has always has their notification sent out until the camera finishes recording..
@@LifeHackster Thanks LifeHackster! What about the accuracy of the live video? Is there a lag or a delay?
as of april 2020 the notifications are now instant
Any firmware update on the night vision? That quality looks iffy....
Blink’s night vision is one of its weakness..
@@LifeHackster damn. Bought two....
You ever think of doing a comparison with different LPR cameras?
Might be in the future...they are just expensive though.
you do amazing review videos. thanks for your time and effort. Question... my BLINK XT does not work at night time. i get blank screen. i can hear the video but i can't see the video (at night time only). During the day it works great.. I'm thinking a firmware update will fix this.. do you know how to do a update on the camera?
Thanks. Makes sure in the settings that the IR Illuminator is on Auto or turned ON.
@@LifeHackster great suggestion.. it was off. i just turn it on.. i'll have to wait for night time to test it.. thank you..
@LifeHackster i turned it on but still no image. i can hear the speaker but no live video. I'm thinking a firmware update will fix this.. do you know how to do a update on the camera?
