In fact the only progress made in colonic cancer is some insight into the genomic sequencing of the disease that could guide treatment of advanced or recurrent disease. The concept of liquid biopsy ie circulating tumor DNA in the blood and genomic essay ( molecular sequencing) that has the potential of modifying the course of the disease as well as plan its control.

Perhaps the breakthrough in the treatment of cancer would be the development of cell culture and sensitivity to various cytotoxic drugs in vitro so as to select the appropriate drug.
