Really appreciate all you videos. I've learned a great deal watching over the last 4 years. I am a amateur radio operator and hobbyist. I've just purchased the owon scope based on your review,. It will be my first scope at 67 years of age. Toetsiens en Loop lekker.
Now that was what I call thoroughly! By far the best review of that device I've seen so far. Very helpful indeed! A big thumbs up and thanks alot from Germany!
Not as a first or even second scope , I've been working on a lot of switchmode power supplies of late and being conscious of the possibility of putting the probe ground in an unfortunate place , I decided a handheld/isolated scope would be good for my nerves . I purchased a zotec zt-702s , but it was faulty out of the box ,so once bitten twice shy , having seen this video I went for the Owon second time around . The downside of distance shopping is no try before buy , so it's eminently useful to see someone else give a full and frank review. It's not my best scope but it fulfilled all requirements of the purpose for which it was purchased. So cheers for that.
Really good video. I just bought one of these as I need something isolated and cannot be bothered with using my differential probes. I’m going to do a review on this meter. I think you gave it a hard review given the price point and I really appreciate that. Thanks best regards chris
Why does anyone want a continuity tester that is latched? This is not an improvement IMO. The "scratchy" sound allows you to hear exactly how good or bad a connection is, especially if you have a fractured solder joint or broken wire. A latched beep takes all the best information out.
I agree, an instant scratchy continuity tester is superior for working QUICKLY and not missing any short hits. Edit: if you can recommend a cheap fast scratchy one LMK, I need a backup for my old one.
not bad, some good points made. the continuity mode is too slow to pick up really short shorts (pun) if youre probing tiny microcontroller pins. can definitely miss many
Thank you for your time and dedication. Do you happen to know what the maximal input voltage for this device in the osciloscope mode is? I only find conflicting information, even in the description wether the cited 400V applies to X10 attenuation only or wether it is CW.
It's 40V (pk-pk) max/x1 probe, 400V (pk-pk) max/x10 probe. For example it's about 14,1 VAC (rms) max/x1 probe, 141VAC (rms)/x10 probe. For a higher voltage than 141VAC (rms) you should buy x100 probe. For example: 220VAC (rms) from the socket has a peak voltage about 311V [sqrt(2)*Vrms], so it's peak-peak voltage is about 622V (pk * 2).
Great video good review I was thinking of getting one but I might hold back now as I can see the little hiccups what you are saying I don't like that. I'm sure owon has done its best but I think they can do better and there's no excuse. Maybe these little bugs could be sorted out with a small update not sure.
Hello, can you use the multimeter leads to input and see the sinewave from an electrical socket? I've been searching everywhere for this answer as i'm new to oscilloscopes.
This probably a bad idea. Normally, for handling high voltages with a scope, you use a probe that divides the voltage by 10 or 100. Depending on which country you live in, the best approach is probably to measure each line relative to ground. Most dual bean scopes allow you to invert one trace, and then add the traces (ie subtract them) to measure line to line. I have an OWON, though not this model, and it DOES NOT have the add/subtract feature. I would suggest not poking things into electric sockets if you are not a trained electrical engineer - a friend of mine died that way quite recently.
Hi, thanks a lot for the video. Is this oscilloscope valid to see the wave form of a 230VAC grid or inverter signal? If not, could I use a 230/48 transformer and the 10x? Does the transforme "smooth/disturb/...." the signal? Do you have any video about how to see this signal to chekc modified, pure sine, armonics, .... Thanks
What would you recommend using if you needed a very high Acracy that does what this Machine claims to do and you can't spend a lot on it? Need a Machine that does what this one claims to do and fails. Very low budget. Thanks for the review.
There are several waveforms, also several arbitrary ones. The signal generator can work independent of the oscilloscope, so you can measure the waveform from the signal generator at the scope, by using a pigtail BNC-cable.
Hi just a quick question how are you able to read capacitors above 2000uf when the max spec range of this unit is 2mf ?? I have the 100mhz version of this and it too can only read up to 2000uf ??
I certainly do not like the "display 0000 while it is "thinking"". I would rather see dashes that would let me know that it is measuring and actually working on it. The ramping to the final reading is very poor as well. Nice display though....
I agree. But however, waiting a couple of seconds when measuring a stable voltage is not a big deal. Hopefully, a firmware upgrade could fix this issue.
The 00's being displayed not as --'s is not an issue to me as I know it does it. The ramp up is not an issue either. I could also hook in a moving coil meter if I wanted to look for a genuine ramp up or a scope. I think you are being overly picky. I have the 100MHZ version which has a proper rather than overclocked A/D converter and better specs. My normal scope is an R&S 3000 and I want a small handheld so I can mess around on the kitchen table rather than hide away in my lab. A bit more sociable and cat safe.
Yes, you ARE being too picky on the ramping. Intelligent users will know what is happening and have a little patience. I have one of these and appreciate your thoroughness.
lets face it , i just looked over your channel , and i found your an expert in making videos out of Electronics gear , but as far as using it goes Chinese Analog DC only voltmeter with broken leads would be more then you need for electronics work that is . You actually had to purchase voltage outputting devices in order to have something to measure , proper user would have a job for it . Its job is not to pose for a commercial in your artificial tests that have nothing to do with real world use

Thanks for clarifying right away that the probe grounds are tied together (no independent channels) and they go to USB ground as an additional insult.
My laptop is not connected to the wall socket ground pin even when charging.
Hello, are the multimeter leads silicone or rubber? Thank you

Hi. Any way to determine if this will measure THD from a home generator?
Is the HDS272S capable of reading 30 AC millivolts at 200 kHz bandwidth ? How about 50 AC Volts at 200 kHz bandwidth ?
Thank for sharing; as always very interesting content.

Get one its a great device , a lot of what he`s saying here is "true" to a certain degree , but , he`s being very very picky .
Is a review of the Owon HDS2102S on the horizon?
here it is: same but higher bandwidth and double sample storage. :D
Love the video. Whats the max capacitance value it can measure?

What is the pdvs2 mini meter your using?,looks qute!
Hello engineer, good time, dear friend, why don't you activate subtitles, I want to read your clips with Farsi subtitles, thank you for doing this.
Hi can anyone explain what settings to use to set gains on audio Amplifiers? I can not zoom into the sinewave to see clipping!

Does anyone know what the maximum input voltage of the oscilloscope is? Is it the same as the multimeter function?
The print says Cat II, 400V. I'm a tad bit skeptical, but who knows. ;)
Excellent video. 👍
Can you directly use the osciloscope at the out put ranging from 310 volts DC?
What would you recommend using if you needed a very high Acracy that does what this Machine claims to do and you can't spend a lot on it? Need a Machine that does what this one claims to do and fails. Very low budget. Thanks for the review.
@_Schwalbe_262_ I'm asking for a recommendation?
Is there no waveform? Can you suggest a waveform display?

OWON HDS2102S vs Tektronix THS720A
Which of these two devices would make sense to buy?
It depends on what you want to do with them. Do you want a sports car or an SUV?
The worst part of OWON oscilloscopes is the lack of memory depth, decoding.
Do you recommend it.Sir?
Yes he did.
hey norton do you consider yourself the african eevblog? lol
Nice

This should be an easy softwatre fix.
oops! software, not softwatre
Great video. Please do a video on owon hds272s software demo showing Windows PC features when connected to Scope.
Looks like a clone of the Hantek handheld oscilloscope.
Exactly, only difference Owon have bit nicer design and bigger display (3,5" in comparison to 2,8' in Hantek).
hello. it can write data stream to internal memory?
@@detalite It is superior to the Hantek in many ways, but not all. You can easily find comparative reviews.

Спасибо за обзор!
Привет! Стоит брать в качестве портативного?
@@Denis_Borovik я бы предпочёл хантек 1062в, аппарат гораздо серьёзнее, но и габариты поболее
Buen dia!! Podrias hacer una comparativa entre Metrel 3152XC - Sonel MPI530 - Fluke 1664 FC ?
Saludos desde Argentina!

I want to remind, this is an oscilloscope...

South african for sure

Why do you make these comments on a lot of UA-cam channels, do you not have anything better to do?
What a depressing comment.
Is it possible to measure dirty electric in mV (a clean or bad AC sine wave) using the HDS272S?
