My maternal side is Sikh, I cannot imagine those days of late 80s when my parents got married, those days were very different.
Esp. when my dad's family from Uttarakhand and my mom's family from Punjab ,two different places culturally.
I spent good part of childhood with my maternal grandparents ,aunts ,uncles.
Even to this day my father is not fond of keeping his relatives in close contact ,so that leaves my maternal side to become even closer to our family😎
My aunts share very insane bond with their sister(my mom) , phone calls every day, sharing news of here and there with her 😁
My religious beliefs are very fluid ,I am agnostic and respect all faiths.
My father side family back then were not fond of my father's choice mostly because she was not Pahari, was from different caste("Pandher"), culture,rituals were very different , I am sure people hailing from Uttarakhand and people hailing from Punjab were almost alien to each other if we consider 80s unless they lived in cities such as delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh.

It is not a inter caste religion. Sikhism is a different religion although we have many things in common with Hinduism. Earlier in Punjab temple & Gurudwara used to be one & eldest son of Hindu family used to become a Sikh. But these things started disappearing as politicians spread hate among Hindus & Sikhs which led to Punjab insurgency, 1984 Sikh genocide & many local Hindu- Sikh riots. So, marriages between Hindus & Sikhs can end this hatred.

At that time police did not spare even pregnant women for greed of money & high promotions. Why most Sikh families have problem when Sikh girl wants to marry Hindu or non Sikh boy .On the other hand they have no objection when Sikh boy wants to marry non Sikh girl which is actually more common then the first case . These are just double standards .
