Thanks for watching!
Hi everyone, this is Shannon. I want to clarify that this interview was filmed in October of 2022, almost 6 months ago. I am still living in Ewu with my cat, Embers. We are in California at this time. April 2023. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts about this video. You inspire me to keep going!
You inspire us too, thank you!
Hi Shannon, you are super inspiring! Do you have a UA-cam channel?
@@beinggeorgina7584 Hi Georgina, I just created one. @AdventureswithEmbers
Ms. Shannon what is your UA-cam channel? I would like to follow you? I loved your van tour. God bless your travels.
So happy to see Bob’s video featuring your build and get to meet you: I have been in my bus since 2018 and fully agree with your thought process & philosophy in life. Wishing you a blessed journey!
You really don't need a lot to live a simple life. I love this.
That’s wonderful! Shannon is so grateful and such a beautiful lady! Glad she was selected for the BYOV!
Love her spirit. My late mum always said she never wanted a big TV to watch when she was older, she was out and about even when she was in a electric wheelchair.
Well said, "Whoever dies with the most stories wins." So true. Shannon is a dear, enjoyed hearing a bit of her natural nomad sense. The set up is great, I like how free it looks with everything secured to the plywood. That was ingenious of the original owner. Glad you inherited a gem!
Bless you Bob Wells & staff!!!
H.O.W.A. Does so much for the nomadic community. Thank you Bob and volunteers 😊
Yes! Thank you Bob and Volunteers! 💙
Wisconsin again!
good for you Shannon - there definitely is more to life than to be occupied by a TV. The world out there is your TV and better life experiences come out of that. enjoy your nomad life
What a lovely lady and a great community that can come together and help in that way.
As someone in the UK where there are increasing restrictions against campervans I am very envious that you folks in the states have so much relative freedom. I'll have to continue gathering stories via your inspiring UA-cam channel!
It's ridiculous the way people living in vehicles are discriminated against. I think most are respectful, happy to move on & generally just want somewhere safe to sleep IMO, yet because they aren't living a conventional life they're targeted. Living in an operational vehicle shouldn't be an issue, especially when the alternative might be living in the open and risking their lives while just trying to get by.
Maybe you can come visit! My best friend moved to England yrs ago and I've never seen her since. Maybe you could do the same, but in reverse. (wherever in the UK you are) 💙
My comment above was kind of intentionally but only internally ironic. Yes, I can see the greatness of this group and it’s work etc but o live full time in my van in the UK and it’s not great. It’s far from the YT or Instagram dream experience. I did not actively choose this as a lifestyle, life foisted that upon me but it’s a struggle and not one I am enjoying. The community is just not the same, there is no space and there are so many restrictions and people that don’t like the fact that I don’t conform. UK society is not a good place to live full time VanLife.
I live in Queenstown, NewZealand… freedom camping is aggressively fined unless it is in certain spots… you may camp in a paid campground ($40+ nightly) or in a registered department of conservation site ($15+ nightly but no facilities or internet service, they are way out in beautiful places and sometimes water Is available) or a very occasional free site!!! No camping in streets is allowed and residents too will ring to report van lifers even if they are clean and quiet
I am lucky enough to have a job in a wonderfull campground so I am allowed to park here free of charge, but I would have had problems if I didn’t … I moved into a van because I was skint so $280+ ‘rent’ was not an option
USA seems to have a more flexible approach to van living from what I have seen on the internet
Come on down. 😊
What a great setup. The vehicle is in great condition and a wonderful chassis for vanlife. Such a hopeful joyful story.
She is so happy and also very grateful to HOWA for helping her with her van. What a wonderful attitude she has as she is out there doing it, and learning as she goes. I wish her many miles of wonderful experiences and safe travels. Thank you Bob.
Bob, you are awesome for everything you have organized and helped others with. I was homeless during the pandemic and your channel helped me build out my Nissan Altima into my CaRV home. I have a place now and am building out my current car(old car was rear ended) but would love to volunteer with HOWA soon. Stay awesome, thanks and many blessings to you and all the volunteers.
Good for you, Shannon! I wish I could get my husband on board with the nomad life. I’m almost 70 and I don’t want to spend my remaining years being static.
I love the fact she just got out there realizing she has a wandering soul, I’m the same way. Too long in one place drives me crazy and it’s from moving a lot throughout my childhood. Nice east build and once again good interview Bob. Much love and many blessings
As an Astro van owner I can honestly say I really like the "portable" builds better than most of the permanent builds.
These temporary removeable builds usually are much lighter and keep the van much more versatile to other uses in need be while still providing the function the user really needs.
This is an amazing story. Thank you both for sharing🙏 It’s definitely an inspiration to me as a single older woman that I don’t need to feel like I’ve been isolated alone. I have the opportunity to make the necessary changes in my own life and not wait for someone else. And like this lovely lady, I love learning new things, meeting great people and just being free. God bless you Bob and HOWA for the fantastic work y’all do to help people free themselves and go out and be the change🙏💜
I'm happy to encounter single women out in the natural world, like myself. It's fun to connect and reconnect later, sharing stories or offering help, or making small plans to enjoy the natural world together and with others. I hope I always feel and think this way for the rest of my life 🔥
Agreed! I retired and found myself sitting in my apartment watching TV and that's not the life I want. Good for you! :)
Exactly, currently looking for me a van!!!
I love this for her!! She has a genuine and comforting presence about her..I'll bet she's a good friend. She makes me excited to get out there. I love her rig and wish her all the best! As always great job Bob and HOWA!!
Aahh
Hi Shannon, I am a kindred spirit. I am a wandering spirit like yourself. I raised my 2 children, moved around quite a bit...but, I felt like life was slipping away if I stayed in one place for too long. I work as a nurse, a travel nurse. I've traveled to Asia and Africa! I'm currently in Ghana.
I want experiences over toys. I love meeting new people, and I'm fine doing it alone😊
You are, and you have a beautifully simplistic lifestyle that sings to me. Stay blessed n free Shannon🙏🏾
I'm touched Toni. Thank you.
Wow, that's really cool. I'm fine doing it alone too. Not as all as bad as some people think.
Bless this woman she’s living the life she’s always wanted to live, good on her and I hope she’s very happy living her best life x
She is absolutely charming....so glad that she has a more comfortable place.
I loved her and this tour. She seems truly at peace. Safe Travels!
I like the mini van arrangement. It's stealthy, well done inside, safe when you need to get some rest, convenient to get up and go elsewhere. Safe travels.
I agree along with parking anywhere. Before I go minivan route, I'm hoping the astro van will come back. Would like to put a Hightop on it. I'm 5'5
Shannon is lovely and so is her home 👍🙏🥰🇨🇦
Shannon is such a sweet and kind woman. Thanks Bob for helping another human on this planet!
Shannon is a sweetheart, inside and out.
I don’t think I could live the way she does, but as long as she’s happy, that’s all that matters.
Shannon sounds so sweet. I hope she has many great adventures and a lot of wonderful stories to tell. :)
Bless this young woman's heart. She is a true adventurer. Thank you for sharing Bob, thank you Sharon.
My wife says this lady is one of her favorite people Bob has interviewed. 2 yrs ago I sold my old 06 Honda Odyssey minivan to my neice. She's been dreaming of the Nomad Life ever since. I've used it in the past for camping & it worked GREAT. She wants to do a very minimal build out on it & travel across Canada in it. @ the very least she says she's giving up her apt & planning on living in it fuĺl time.
I wish you niece the best.
I AGREE!!! I’m making that move next year!!! I’m applying for my SS this year & getting out of my 1bdr apt watching TV 📺 all day after I just retired!!!! I NOW NEED AN ADVENTURE!!! I’m definitely AFRAID 😱!!! BUT YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE SO GO FOR IT!!!💯💯💯
BYOV is amazing. Love the freedom Shannon gained. Love the inspiration you provide, Bob. Folks need choices~
Home is where your heart is.❤🙃🇦🇺
Great simple build. Shannon has a wonderful life and an incredible life view. She seems like a very likable person with a terrific personality.
Getting very close to hitting the road in my converted ambulance. 2 yrs of work and ready to leave Calif. What a learning experience! Ready for some new adventures.
Hi Shannon!!! So nice to see you again, even though this time it’s virtual. Your build looks great but I’m surprised we didn’t get to see your kitty. I hope things are great your way. See you down the road!!
Hi Linda, Embers was zipped up in the big tent because Cody was with Bob. I didn't know how they would do together and didn't want any pet drama during our interview.
@@AdventureswithEmbers Thank you for keeping kitty safe!! Love your build! Best wishes!❤😸💞
Love her story! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Yeah HOWA and the lovely nomad Shannon and fur traveler 🐈!! This build is just adorable, it looks perfect! What a pleasure meeting you Shannon, wishing you all the blessings 🙏🏾❤️
Shannon, you are on fire! Don’t change a thing! Bob, I don’t know how gifted you are, but you just keep finding better and better and better and better and better people and more better people that are living this lifestyle. I’m getting ready to head out in a month… I was just talking to a friend about the physical and emotional feeling you get when you’re driving not knowing where you’re going to end up…
Thank you!!
Welcome to our tribe Shannon ! I think you will find many new friends and be able to share your stories with all of us, we live for stories !
Love the simplicity of your beautiful van Sharon and the interview Bob…just wonderful! Thanks so much!!!
Love her positivity !!! Be safe always !!!
What a sweet and lovely lady. I would have loved to see her cat. Wondered where he/ she was during the tour. I really like to know how people travel with their cat. It seems different to me than travel with a dog. Isn't the cat wandering of, etc
I look forward to meeting Shannon one day. Inspiring attitude.
Shannon your dress is pretty. Good video Bob.👍☮️
What an admirable woman she is.
Ann.
Y'all are 👍👍🏼👍🏼💐😸
🎉🎉🎉 congratulations 🎊 👏 and keep living and loving and spreading kindness as you are.
I can relate to what she’s saying about her and the tv. If anything were to happen to my husband, this is something I would seriously consider doing 👍🏻 I think she is my spirit friend lol. She’s describing me. I like to move and do things. It’s the gypsy gene.
Thanks Bob for another great video !
Shannon, you are a ray of sunshine and I’m so happy you are living your life your way ! Really nice set up, it’s got everything you need and must be super cozy with your kitty cat.
Happy traveling and blessings to you ❤
It's living life on your own turns. Wonderful ❣️.
This was a really nice arrangement. And Shannon is a charaismatic interview subject.
I had a astro van several years ago and it lasted forever without any issues. I am proud of her being a nomad buying a reliable vehicle and being happy in it.
She’s going to be amazed at what she’s been given. The roof fan is a incredible benefit. She was taken care off. 👋🏻
I lived in a van for a year. Some in Va some in Nc. Then a sailboat for months. Still have my van. I would love to have those things. Planning on heading to the East Coast again 2024. Trying to move to Nc. Been there twice. But bad luck keeps me coming back to my hometown in Waynesboro Va. I have a dentist bill to pay off now. then I’ll be Debt free again. Save a few thousand dollars and off I’ll go again. My dream for 30 plus years was to live on the coast. Each time I fail. I get more knowledgeable what I really need and want. Was so lonely all alone in another State but I meet someone hopefully next time. I’ll be 57 next month. 3 time will be a charm. 🍀. I still have to work but I’m retiring as soon as possible. I’m a minimalist. I don’t need much . The only thing I didn’t like was finding a place to park near my job. Then on the weekends I’d go to Waynesboro and boondock never asked my family about staying at their house. I stayed at a truck stop or Walmart. That was the thing that bothered me the most. But I could definitely live in my old 1991 chevy van. And would love it. Especially on rainy weekend nights. I’ve learned so much from your videos Bob. And Sarah tree van life videos. My two favorites. Thank you Sir .
What a wonderful lady!👍
What a wonderful saying “He who has the most stories!”. Very nice person and build! Thank you, Bob!
I enjoy watching this video and how this lady got help from your program to build her van with the extra things that she needed. Nice work folks 👍
Lovely tour. Thankyou howa, bob and shannon.
Loved Shanon’s story. I wish for her the best of this, her season. I really enjoy your channel. Thank you for keeping us inspired.
Congratulations Shannon what a blessing to be chosen by Howa and to escape the "me & the TV" life that was a powerful statement!!
Thank you for sharing your story Shannon. Super nice van.
So encouraging to see and hear about brave nomadics! Happy trails to you both!
I have that same gray plastic drawer set!! The “little guy” one. I have two. Love them. Great video!
Homes on Wheels Alliance? Sounds like an AWESOME group.
I will be donating next payday. Thank you for helping Bob.
This wonderful lady has a very nice set up!
Beautiful
Nice that Shannon has found the nomad community
Thanks Bob.
What a sweet lady. So brave too.
I just stumbled on this video and found it to be so inspiring and informative. Shannon is a sweet lady and I can see she's a gentle soul. I love how she created and designed a simple yet livable space in her Ewu. Very clever the way she has a spot for everything! Great lady.
HOWA volunteers are angels and Shannon is a wonderful lady living her dream
Hi Bob this was fantastic cheap and simple showing us that NO matter your age or ability To just get out their and live your life and enjoy your dreams thank you both for inspiring us to NOT give up
Shannon thanks for the motivation. My kids are grown I am ready to live in nature.
I love Astro vans. The school I use to teach at purchased one back in 2000 and they are easy to park and maneuver. I've been in love with them ever since then. 👍❤
I’ve met Shannon and she’s a sweet lady.
I did the van life back in 90 and traveled the midwest and the eastern seaboard and ended up staying in Florida for 5 years and eventually graduated to a class c. I miss it..
Really nice and the price can’t be beat. I admire her for going out and doing what she wants.❤
I wanted to see what she did with the tent, outdoor living? Good for her that she's living the free life and enjoying herself.
What a wonderful woman.
Wonderful. I am like Shannon, I am always looking for the next adventure. Right now I am stationary in Louisiana. Mom is 77 soon to be 78and doesnt need to be alone. But I will be out there adventuring again
#Grateful 🙏 love you guys, thank you, #mahalo
Amazing set up! Everyone van life looks different and that’s the beauty of it all❤

Precious young woman! God bless her and God bless you, Bob!
HOWA is such a blessing to the community!
Such a Beautiful Spirit and Person' Thank You Shannon and Bob! Great vehicle' Blessings to you both Always!🌦️🕊️
Thanks for sharing your awesome and well thought out build Shannon, and "Howdy" from Coos Bay OR where its cold and raining today as usual! As soon as you get away from the TV and the "Rat Race", the sooner you get to really enjoy life!
I lived my childhood in Port Orford, OR. I used to roller skate in Coos Bay whenever my mother and grandmother would drive up to visit the department stores.
Thank You Everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.. Peace Shalom Salam Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤ 🕊
she's sweet !.. thanks bob..
One thing I am surprised I do not see more of with van life setups is the SUV/Van tents that have the sleeve that fits over the back of the vehicle which sort of adds a tent to the vehicle.
Seems like in a dispersed camping environment such a unit would add in space to stand up, add screened in air flow, a place to kick back out of the sun or when it is raining and to a degree they can be bought for a reasonable amount dollar wise.
I could see not setting it up if you were moving every day but if you were going to be in a same spot for several days or more it just seems they would really add to the comfort of having more space.
That's a good question. I've been looking at them for my minivan camper but just haven't made the purchase because I'm in the city most of the time right now. But I still would consider on when I start exploring BLM land.
I believe all you ladies living nomadic style are brave and bright.
Be safe always.
Pretty nice and brave lady. Would be proud to know her for sure 😎✌ Maybe a shower tent and spray bottle set up would be nice. Put a storage container bolted to the rear door with a little locking system to carry some stuff.
Very good ideas!
Good on you, Springbar Tents 😊
