I do not but in this video those are 1st vines. The ones in the blue tubes. I show me training them up.

    Two questions boss:
    1) what are you using to spray for the Japanese beetles? Neem oil?
    2) how long did the whole pruning take time wise?
    Thanks for the video

For the beetles I use a combo spray. I mix Ortho Malathon for a preventative (which means a instant kill if they bite the leaf) and I use Sevin (which kills on contact). If it rains I likely will have to spray again so I look for long stretches of dry weather.
That prune took about 2-3hrs. I prune 3 times a year. Feb-Mar (to form the vines), May (clean up the trunks and new leads) and July (to thin the leaves for maximum sun on the grapes). Thx for watching!

What do you spray your grapes to protect from fungus and pests?

Fungus I use Mancozeb before July 1st and Captan afterwards. Both made by Bonide. I use a combo of Malathon and Sevin for pests. Hope this helps

@@HomeProHero Thanks, the Catawba Grapes were first year? I'm sorry, I saw half the video and had to get to work, I intended on watching the rest later, thank you. I only saw the part with the older vines. I have first year Neptunes and Canadice, I started running the leader lateral at around 3 feet, thinking I would trellis it like other vines, such as cucumbers, the more I research grapes, the more I realize they are a whole different category. Do you recommend after the first year trimming back to one or two shoots, then select spurs to maintain the vine going forward? I'm confused what to do with my first year growth, I have found contradicting opinions, one person says do not cut back 1st year so roots grow, the other says cut it back to 2 buds on8 spurs, I'm lost at this point. I'd appreciate any advice. I'm a first year, first time grape grower, I'm trying learn as much as I can. Thank you! Great channel by the way, I subscribed!

Also, I was told by the people I bought the first year bare root grapes to prune in winter, but you did a great job w/ summer pruning, I'm in zone 7A, any issue pruning 1st year vine?

Hi HomePro Hero! Great information. I’m looking forward to starting a small vineyard. What are your thoughts on trellising 2 rows high vs. 1 row high? Also, why did you label your rows?

Thanks for watching got more vineyard videos coming make sure you are subscribed!
There are a ton of methods out there for trellising. I would search it on UA-cam. Really depends on your soil type! I have noticed more sag this year in the vineyard which has me a little concerned. The end posts haven't moved so I likely need more of the green metal posts in the middle of the rows. The weight of the vines is impressive and much more than I thought.
I think it depends on the type of grapes you grow when it comes to 1 to 2 high. I might still add that lower wire but I wanted to see the yields this year first. I would research the type of vines you want and see if the vines are capable of yielding the grapes with 4 cordons.
I lettered the rows to track each vine. Like cattle every vine has a number :) So I log every vine every year so I know how to prune it in the winter. For example if H4 is not producing good grapes maybe I prune it back hard or maybe even replace it. Hope this helps and good luck with that vineyard its really fun!!!! HPH

The background music track is competing with your voice and the background noise is horrendous ☹️
