Marco's talent is a phenomenon - extraordinary in so many respects! Such an instinctive understanding of agogic phrasing, of breathing, of injecting life and expression..... to me, Marco is to the harpsichord what Laurence Olivier was to Shakespeare. This is nothing less than a theatrical peroration :) Heartiest kudos to a Master :)
As I listen - repeatedly - to much of what is posted of Marco playing, I don't feel bad about repeating what I wrote 4 months ago: "Marco's talent is a phenomenon - extraordinary in so many respects! Excellent performance of this wonderful piece. I have an old vinyl LP of this played on a CLAVIORGANUM which is a strange instrument that is both a harpsichord and a pipe organ and can produce both sounds together. This instrument adds an even greater sense of drama to the music - though some people would find it, perhaps, a little too quirky.
@@zacharybond23 Yes, it was a clavichord builder, Michael Thomas, I don't know if he is still playing. The recordings were Oryx Bach Collectors Series, I believe they were from the 1960s. Mr Thomas also recorded a very fine performance of the Chromatic fantasy & fuge, BWV 903 on one of his own clavichords. I don't think he was interested in concert performing.
EVERYTHING SOUNDS GREAT-?? BUT WHERE IS ALL THE RECORDING EQUIPTMENT? WAS IT RECORDED TWICE? ONCE FOR THE VISUAL VIEW AND ONCE FOR THE SOUND IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION? WHATEVER I LOVE THIS RECORDING. 5 STARS.
A noted film of a keyboard performance is Weissenberg's Petroushka video from 1965 (ua-cam.com/video/1aTDn93Mhso/v-deo.html). It was recorded once, to get the audio; the filming then required 10 days(!), with Weissenberg playing on a specially built 'soundless' piano, in order to get the many, varied angles for the visuals in the film. Weissenberg discusses the process here: ua-cam.com/video/9U78w0IY7GA/v-deo.html. Given the many visual angles that appear in this current video, I suspect a similar process was used, with multiple videos shot from different perspectives of the performer playing in sync to his own recording...
@@amand7770 My understanding is that he recorded it first (the sound recording), then recorded the film, "playing" along to the sound recording multiple times while the camera filmed from many different places to get all the interesting angles. For the angles from inside the piano, the strings had been removed. Then of course it was all edited.
Extremely well played. Fugue was too fast for my tastes, but then again I'm accustomed to hear it played with piano. Nevertheless, a great performance overall.
@@irenelygourioti1422, I do know it is a harpsichord. Nevertheless, I found the fugue too fast, but naturally it is a matter of taste and personal preferences.
The piece is written in a minor and what you hear is A-flat minor because the harpsichord is tuned a semitone lower (A=415) instead of A=440. This is the tuning that was used in Bach's days as well.
The transcendental character of Bach's music is shown by how good it sounds on any instrument and at any tempo. Amazing :)
The fugue was extraordinary. Felt like it was spontaneously invented
I have not heard such a fast performance of the fugue, but I feel that it works well. I enjoy it.
I prefer more slowly.

The more I watch your videos, the clearer it becomes to me that you are one of the greater musicians alive today.
Easily my favourite interpretation of this Bach masterpiece!
It has become my favourite piece, from my favourite composer!
wow... incredible interpretation! Love how Bach morphs between chaos and order. It's so delightful!
I feel sorry for people who disliked this performance
Agogica parlante:... che bella interpretazione !
Amazing performance
Wow did not expect this. I have to say this is BRILLANT.
Delicate und smart, also musically and with subtile love of rhythm.
Great.
I am deeply moved by this performance, thank you so much!
Super bellissimo!

Magical sound. No words!!!
Good!
Simply amazing, even just listening to the first few bars...
Wow! He is playing "in-egale". Sounds great! I was taught never to do that with german music... Well Schiff does it as well :-)
mette holm what does “in-egale” mean?
Inégal in french, unequal in english
Bellísima interpretación.
There's so much music in this rendition. Extremely moving! Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic and wonderful. Thank you so much
Soo beautifull!!

emilgilels Why do you use a soundless piano?
you cant use the sound of the video anyway.
@@emilgilels Hey, that first video is in Swedish! Trevligt att höra, he-he.
I would assume there is a BlueTooth microphone under the harpsichord, as the sound is actually richer there-as noted on my own harpsichord.

Wonderful - and wonderfully expressive - playing.
