    Pretty funny how you jokingly said “I need to attack nine times with trinket mage” and then proceed to attack nine times with trinket mage for the win

    That was a roller coaster ride through the games! I did not expect such difficult games when I saw the draft!

    WOW I don't know if I've ever seen a Vintage cube run with such interesting and close games every match.

    2:16:27 You can generate infinite storm by bouncing dynamo/sol ring right? I mean, you didn't need to with the jar in play. But in paper you might want to to play around an eldrazi (storm count 1,000,000 and mill until the eldrazi is in the bottom 6 cards, then pop the jar). Though that seems like it could be potentially be very annoying to play out in paper, haha.

    I imagine Luis opening Ancestral, Sol Ring and then still having complaint equity because he opened Black Lotus AND Mox Sapphire in the same pack

    Only Reid would open literally every blue card in cube and still say "but maybe I can still go red."

      If by pack 3, you are still commited to only 1 color, it's easy to go into a second color that late.

    56:25 you can loop sol ring and any 0 for infinite colorless mana here, then recast trinket mage a bunch to put every tutorable artifact in play bouncing opponents whole board.

    Opening Lotus, Sol Ring, Ancestral, then getting passed a late Academy
    Obscene.

    In response to Nissa, I think it was possible to kill your opponent with brainstorm. If you countered the Nissa, then cast thirst, then brain freeze for 12, you could then cast torrential, then brain freeze for 18. 30 total and they had 26 cards left 😁

    At 55:00, I think the play is to make infinite colorless with Sol Ring and Talisman (Trinket Mage to start the loop), repeatedly cast TM to thin your deck (you can get blue off Talisman, just not infinitely, and every tutored artifact lets you bounce TM), and only *then* cast the Ponder.
    At that point you're set up with infinite mana and a better shot at finding gas, and Pondering into Brain Freeze or YawgWill (into Spellseeker) even just gives you the win.

      Plus you could loop relic infinitely and eat their entire graveyard
      mtgo clock is an issue tho

    • @josephmozena7640
      @josephmozena7640 6 місяців тому

      Yeah. The mana loop doesn't even take very long, so it's not like it takes forever to get up to 10 or 11 mana. As it ended up being played out, he passed with a very real chance at just losing the game.

    55:10 I think the play here is actually trinket mage for a zero drop, then you can bounce sol ring and a zero drop over and over, infinite colorless mana, then you can activate Karn indefinitely until you get brain freeze, then you win. Karn would let Reid rip through his whole deck. It would be slow, but no reason not to go for the win.

    I love seeing these Single Elimination Pods.

    At around 59:00, you could generate infinite colorless mana by grabbing lotus petal with trinket mage and infinitely bouncing sol ring and lotus petal, tapping sol ring with each cycle. This could have deterministically found brain freeze with Urza, as you could play Urza and activate to search the top two, then bounce it with sol ring/lotus petal.

    Maybe someone can help me here: Why did Reid use Relic of Progenitus at sorcery speed in the third game against the Iona/Skullclamp opponent, when the opponent could have Entomb in his hand for the Iona, as Reid noted?

  • @tianruixiao9239
    @tianruixiao9239 6 місяців тому

    Really tight games, after not being able to go in on storm the deck became much more tame and it was harder to piece together a win. if you had upheaval which didn't wheel in P2? it would've been really good in this deck

  • @Ethryas
    @Ethryas 6 місяців тому +1

    I think at 58:53, just alternating playing Lotus and Sol Ring, and bouncing the other one with the Hullbreaker trigger each time, would be infinite colourless mana here. Then you can either use your Islands, or switch to bouncing and replaying the talisman at the cost of 1 life per blue mana, for enough casts of trinket mage to play every target it can fetch. Then you could at the very least keep triggering Horror off of any 0 mana artifacts to bounce all opponents no land permanents and any you want to end up in hand, as well as using relics’ first ability until the opponent’s graveyard is empty. At that point you might even feel safe using relic to try and draw into brain freeze (in fact, seeing this line might make shuffling from the Ponder instead of keeping alarm seem more attractive). Is that right?

    • @solon314
      @solon314 6 місяців тому +1

      Wasn't it a straight up "instant" win?
      As you said.. infinite mana by repeatedly bouncing Sol Ring and Lotus (or any 0-mana Artifact), also generating infinite storm. After that Karn and any artifact can keep bouncing each other generating an arbitrary amount of Karnstruct tokens or drawing your whole deck with Karn until you find Brainfreeze for the win.

  • @pugthemaster8

    I agree with the thirst pick instead of tendrils, but I do like tendrils over brain freeze in the vintage cube because of the eldrazi running around making brain freeze whif against some decks

    • @josephmozena7640
      @josephmozena7640 6 місяців тому

      I used to feel that way, but there are enough other reasons why Brain Freeze is better now (most notably Underworld Breach, but also it's cheaper, instant, and easier to kill with) that I would generally much rather have Brain Freeze than Tendrils. It is important to have a plan against decks with Eldrazi, and it will occasionally cost you a game, but storm decks are a lot less one dimensional than they were a few years ago, and you can usually find a way to win around an Eldrazi, so having the storm card which is better in most other circumstances is generally just a better plan overall.
      I think it helps also that the Eldrazi have gotten a lot worse in general, so you don't run into nearly as many. Emrakul is still great, but the big creatures have improved enough across the board that control decks and green ramp decks aren't usually playing Eldrazi, so it's essentially only dedicated combo decks with Channel, Through the Breach, Shallow Grave or Corpse Dance, and Emrakul is the only Eldrazi good enough to make me actually want to build around it. I'll generally only play the others if I'm already doing the thing.

    Drawing a 0-mana artifact the match 1 game 3 to have enough mana for trinket mage up the relic with mana left over to activat was so clutch

  • @Ethryas
    @Ethryas 6 місяців тому

    Going comment crazy on this one. At 1:52:48, I'm pretty sure Reid can go for the win, without risking much. Access to nine mana, including plenty of blue, with Nissa on the stack. Cast Thirst (just for storm, discard an island), down to six mana. Pitch to Force or Subtlety the Nissa, Storm is at 3, still six mana available. Then Brain Freeze, Gearhulk, Brain Freeze mills for 30.

    • @Mephisto707
      @Mephisto707 6 місяців тому

      But Brain Freeze plus Gearhulk is 8 mana.

    • @Ethryas
      @Ethryas 6 місяців тому

      @@Mephisto707good point! And if you take out the Thirst for Discovery you only mill for 24, so my line is bad.

    Displacer Kitten is definitely at its best when paired with Tamiyo and something like LED, Black Lotus, Lotus Petal and even Time Walk to recycle them for free and either generate infinite mana or turns. Otherwise its just a cute way to reset permanents with etbs or planeswalkers in a deck with a tonne of cheap spells.

      It's quite good with any mana producing artifact like mana vault. 3 colorless mana every non-creature spell can still do a lot. Also good with mightstone and weakstone.

    Feels like pick 8 U/G talisman pick wasn't best pick. Ur almost certainly splashing red or black for D.tutor or table artifact, or red for mana flair, or breach, or draw discard or cheap removal or either black or red???? So B/R talisman better than on color splash green, really unlikely color to combo off with??

      He has to analyze board state while evaluating dozens of cards the opponent might have, and he’s explaining his decision making to help teach people to play better.
