Great song by one of my fav singers,it encapsulated Derry during the bad years of the 70's when I was a Bogside teenager, thank God Derry the town I still love so well is in a much better place,it has become vibrant, confidant and as resolute as ever,a mighty spirit forged through generations of hardship by an unshakeable resilience and self belief.
i remember being on holiday with my family in mullaghmore co. sligo {thats right} staying at the beech hotel 1975.johhny was staying there too and playing in the lounge.i was about 12. i made friends with him. what a gent. he gave me his guitar to practice on and thought me chords. ar dheis de go raibh se.
cursing makes me want to leave....Find some other friends or reading material. Johnny is great and I love him. I listen and listen and never get enough of watching and listening. I wish I had met him but I didn't so I watch. He is one of the best and for every one like you there are thousands who are not! They appreciate fine music and voice.
I'm just wondering if you have a copy of Johnny reciting the poem "Box"? The last line is said at the start of this video. I've been searching for months!
Brilliant singing! His earlier recordings do him little justice due to such poor arranging and production. Maybe someone who understands modern production can remaster these recordings and perhaps even totally rearrange new tracts around his outstanding singing.
What a fine baladier.and he was a handsome young man here and now one heck of good looking senior! LOL he can come to Canada any time.
best version of this song i saw him in burnfoot donegal in 1972 when i was a young fella .always stayed with me!!!
one of the best baladiers ever. Deservers more recognition.
