- How To Mix A Classic Bloody Caesar Cocktail with Vodka and Clamato... Better than a Bloody Mary Cocktail?
Welcome Friends. Welcome to the first of our 2019 cocktail series, and I thought I'd start this off with the quintessential Canadian cocktail. Some people would call this the National Cocktail of Canada. The Bloody Caesar or just the Caesar, depending on on who you are and what you want to call it. Yes - this cocktail is very close to a Bloody Mary, it's also very close to a Michelada.
Ingredients:
Celery salt or caesar rimmer
30 mL (1 oz) vodka
2 dashes hot sauce
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
Pinch salt and pepper
120 mL (4 oz) Clamato juice
Celery stalk
Method:
Rim a highball glass with citrus and rimmer.
Fill the glass with ice.
Build the cocktail in the glass.
Stir well to mix.
Garnish with celery stalk, hot pickled bean, shrimp, clam, lobster tail, onion rings…

Thanks for watching everyone. What drinks would you like to see in our new cocktail series? P.s. I apologise for the clinking from the new apron... I'll fix it before the next shoot.
id love to see a non-alcoholic drink for those of us who just despise alcohol XD
@Dear_Obi, there will be some of those as well.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking Bless you sweet child
I find a few drop of apron oil keep my apron running smooth and quite. Really helps.
Pegu Club Cocktail...good excuse to talk about gin
Something's weirdly clanking in the audio... I suspect the mic was too close to a piece of metal, maybe that chained up apron?
Glen mentioned it in his pinned comment. I'm guessing because of where his mic was sitting it was picking up the movement of the clips on the apron.
@@brissygirl4997 So he did! His videos always have fantastic production values so I figured it was a minor glitch.
I live in Wisconsin, and my family has been using Clamato in bloody’s for 50 years. Until now, I have never heard or seen others using it. You wouldn’t believe how many people want me to make them a bloody...and the secret is... Clamato!
Love the ASMR from the metalrings
Instead of vodka, we add Beer and its called a Michelada. But a Great Drink!
Linda Phanthongphay Clamato actually makes a really good Michelada mix nowadays. You just 1:1 it with beer, or you can put a bit more mix if you like the flavor (I do)
Although some of the garnish that trendy young people add to their micheladas in Mexico City are rather outrageous
I put half red wine, half clamato. Weird as fk but taste great
Pickle juice and horseradish are essential!
Jeff Dean Accurate.
Hmmm. Interesting. I'll have to try that and see how I like it. Any suggestions for type of pickles, other than not sweet?
@@WhyDoBabiesStareAtMe Personally, I like garlic dill pickles.
My mom used to add the horseradish but not the pickle juice. I remember sneaking sips when she wasn't looking. Love them still. Makes my hubs gag! Lol
Pickle juice?! I had never thought of this. How much?
I'm very happy you choose something so glaringly Canadian for your first cocktail of the series. It feels so right.
4 videos on one day ? Im in dreamland !! Thanks Glen
you are really explaining how things started in an interesting manner. not just this video but in all. i enjoy watching.
So excited for this series!!!
Hmm, looks amazing, and just in time for a weekend drink, thank you.
Great Channel, and even better food here. Love it!
Had my first Caesar in Vancouver last June.
Awesome series this was ... great stuff !
I enjoyed the video and it is a great addition to your series. I applaud your use of lower cost vodka - it can be pretentious to use "top shelf" spirits in a cocktail. I will try to make this as Clamato is available in Texas. You could try to make a Frozen Margarita from basic ingredients - most of us just use a prepackaged mix, but if it can be made from first principles that would be better. Frozen is necessary in Houston - at least for 6 months of the year.
It’s tequila lime and simple
As a lowbrow citizen of the U S., this looks to me like a really well elevated Bloody Mary. With the clams and shrimp, I can see why some people are suggesting horseradish. It would make it like a "seafood cocktail" flavored, erm, cocktail.
Yes, similar to a Bloody Mary. I've had a Caesar with horseradish and it was awesome!
Amazing ! Easy and light video!
It was delicious. Thank you!
Looks like my new favorite 🍹
Looks delicious! I'm a fan of "red beer"- Clamato mixed 1 : 2 with cheap beer and dusted with tajin. Mmm!!
I hear that!
It's so good
Great cocktail. I appreciate the 1 oz of vodka, allowing one to have several without getting plastered (or a nice glass of wine with dinner)!
I often treat myself to a Caesar at The Keg or Lonestar. It's been a long, long time though. Shrimp would go great, but I like crisp, fresh celery with a good bunch of leaves on it. It's a must have for me.
This cocktail looks so strange but so interesting!
So I live in West Texas right next to the Mexican border and I guess I’ve been making Cesars all my life. Lol where I’m at Clamato is is used in everything from Mexican shrimp cocktails, to redbeers (bloody beers) and Bloody Mary’s which I will be calling Cesars from now on lol. One thing I LOVE to do is substituting vodka for tequila!! We call them Bloody Marias!! I don’t suggest a gold tequila though. I silver tequila, or even a light repasado is pretty good!! Amazing seeing a great drink in different cutlers 😊😊😊 love the channel!!
Always loved a good clamato, even when I didn't drink alcohol! I would order a virgin Ceasar! The mix is great!
One of my favorites
Fellow Canadian here. Just found your channel recently and I love it. The way you present yourself is top notch.
I abhor clamato myself, but the video still gets a like lol.
Down here in the States our version, the Bloody Mary, has become a key brunch and hangover cocktail.
Up here in Canada when the Caesar was invented in the 60s, we've been using the Caesar as a hangover cure and a good lunch option
Only difference is clam juice
One of my favourite drinks
I dig the new lighting.
I"ve been a fan of the channel for a long time, a recent view of the channel Funhaus featuring this vid brought me back to watch this video. I stand by what I thought the first time I watched it that I don't think I would enjoy this cocktail
My mom used to drink this when I was a kid. She was from Montana so maybe it was a regional thing. I used to sneak sips and still love it to this day.
You tagged Babish!! Ftw!! I can die happy.
Grew up drinking both veggie/tomato juice and Clamato. Always preferred Clamato Original, even Caesars over Bloody Mary's
We, Wisconsinites, have been making this tasty beverage using clamato and calling it a Bloody.
I think I'll start calling it a Caesar just to baffle my pals.
:-D
my favorite
Hey Glen. Just to mention, you should boost your volume up somehow cause I'm full volume on UA-cam ant almost 60% on my PC volume, but somehow your voice isn't in the same level like other videos. GL!
First, should only come in bucket size, and I love a veggie treat, asparagus, hot pickled bean, pickle and a celery with some bacon and rim WELL hold the horse radish, love your show and I dream of traveling Canada to drink a ceasar in every bar... apologizes to liver. That shrimp looks good.
Omg just bought that Walter season mix and omg it is sooo good!!! It is expensive but I mean if your drinking at home you're saving so much money right there. i also bought the worshester and tobacco and added that with a squeeze of lemon and ice of course. Tomorrow ill pick up some olives and celery salt to rim. Out of vodka :(
tostada de ceviche and a bloody ceasar cocktail 😋
If you ever get the opportunity to visit Dewey Beach, Delaware, there’s a bar/ restaurant named The Starboard that offers a do-it-yourself Bloody Mary bar with hundreds of hot sauces and plenty of extras to mix your own; their breakfast’s are great too!
I love cocktail lore. I’d love to to hear more about the origins of other drinks...it would be interesting to hear how this cocktail relates to the Bloody Mary
Yeah I was going to ask the same thing. This seems very similar to a Bloody Mary.
Never met anyone in Canada who drinks bloody Mary's as Caesars are more popular because they're spicy. I find tomato juice to be quite bland.
@@ittybittyshoeshine A proper Bloody Mary has tabasco, pepper, celery salt and worcestershire sauce, not bland at all! Is it the clam juice that makes it a Caesar? Never heard of this before, quite intrigued!
@@ittybittyshoeshine Bloody Maries often have hot sauce, usually Tabasco. The big difference is the use of clamato rather than tomato juice. There are a lot of variants on the Bloody Mary formula, including the infamous (from Caddyshack) Bullshot, which is supposed to be quite difficult to make.
@@ittybittyshoeshine My dad drank bloody Mary's because he doesn't like spice. I love a good Caesar on occasion.
Many a Sundays have started with a hair of the dog spicy bean Caesar in my household. Its basically how my family gets through a celebration weekend.
Interesting, learned something new. Definitely doesn't sound like the sort of taste I'd go for though. Also, can't drink alcohol but this is still super interesting.
David Richmond Since the vodka does not add to the taste, you can make a tasty Virgin Caesar. Just dilute the ingredients slightly by replacing the vodka with a little water, preferably filtered, or boiled and cooled, to get rid of the chlorine taste in tap water.
OMG the clinking !
First time with that apron... fixed it.
Readers are my favorite!!!
One of the essentials for getting through corona times.
And the bar the Caesar drink was Marcos -- part of the Calgary Inn (Westinn) but located in the lobby of Three Calgary Place. Marcos is long gone but some of us remember it -- especially the home made clam juice long before Matt's was created.
I would definitely add the following: a jigger of pickle juice, one raw egg, and worchestire sauce. The Frank’s sauce sauce mix mix throughly so you don’t get so much heat at the end but make sure you have a bite with every sip! Add some bacon and shrimp and celery if you wish to garnish! Have fun with this refreshing and spicy concoction. Seconds are always allowed and Tito’s goes well with this drink! 🧂add celery salt
Egg definitely doesn't belong in a caesar. That's like a whole new drink if you're putting that in it. Cannot be called a caesar.
🔥🔥
I make a really killer earl grey gin cocktail, steep some earl grey tea with a good gin, simple syrup, and lemon juice, dry shake with egg white and shake with ice. Garnish with some loose earl grey tea leaves!
I like a bit of horseradish in mine, other than that I make it the exact same....but a few more dashes of Tabasco
To quote from Letterkenny, " You can't see a Caesar and not want a Caesar." While I'm a Yankee and prefer a bloody mary. I am not past trying a Caesar.
ayee franks hotsauce love that sauce
So Canadian 😊❤
It's 9AM and now I want a Caeser
Clamato is unknown around here (New Zealand) and ‘clam nectar’ sounds even worse. Furthermore, I don’t miss them, not even a little bit. I’ll happily stick to an occasional Bloody Mary.
I put the vodka in second last, before the Clamato. Everything else first to flavour the ice, including lots of lime. Not really sure if it matters, but that's what I'm sticking with. And only limes. Lemons never come near my Caesar and I need to tell bartenders that every time.
I had a nice caeser in a restaurant, and I disagree that vodka should be disappeared on the drink, the vodka in that drink smell so good, and I was looking to get the same at home. Thanks for the video and I will try.
I actually first had a Caesar while I was in Montana and it was garnished with a wedge of pepper jack cheese. Beats the HELL out of a Bloody Mary!
Horseradish can be used for the hot component.
Awesome and straight to the point. Love Clamato!!
I love caesars
For garnish Earl's does beef jermy. Theirs another place that does a cheese Burger (so I'm told). Cheefs
Hey Glen, found your mic picked up a whole bunch of background on this video. *read your comment, sorry for the double comment *
As always great video.
Vodka Slime.
Yeah the new apron has buckles that jangle... didn't notice until the edit. 5 videos have this, then I catch on.
If you cannot get Clamato - which is practically illegal for Canadian retail outlets selling mixes not to sell - then use tomato juice and “clam nectar”, the latter of which I’d didn’t even know existed until I watched this video? LOL!
Great video… followed!
I LOVE Clamato! There is only a hint of dried clam broth in it, but it has a very savory, distinct flavor. I hate that Mott's removed the image of a clam shell from the label to downplay its "claminess." Some people are such wimps, they shudder at the idea of clam juice and tomato. I switch between this and V8, depending on my mood. Unlike V8, Clamato has no health benefits and a lot of high fructose corn syrup, but it really is delicious and great for a hangover. I loved your garnishes but I also would have used one of those lime wedges. Nice video. Cheers.
Anyone else distracted by the clinking and jingling of the metal on his apron? But Made it just now, added about 6-7 shots of Tabasco, 5 or so of Worcestershire, put the ceasar rim in the drink and added a squeeze of lime juice. 👌🏻just in time for summer
I've got the opposite problem I can't get rid of my clamato :(
WOW...GO GLEN GO 😈
I always get my Caesars virgin because, as you say, you can't taste it anyway and I can have two or three when I'm out and don't have to worry about driving. Plus, it's a bit cheaper!
Try it with a good tequila. Brings a lot more to the party!
In germany we have this too, but a bit stripped down i think. If it's a Cocktail it's called "Bloody Marry", as Shot it's called "Mexican". Essentially it's just Tomato Juice with Salt, Pepper, Hot Sauce (hence the name "Mexican" i guess) and of course Vodka.
Is this the same as a Bloody Mary??
But those Xtreme Beans aren’t nearly as nice as a home pickled hot bean would be... But love the vid. Cesar’s are my wife’s favourite cocktail. I’ll have to show her this :)
Today is April 6 2022. I mention this because Today I found out that April is (in the 🇺🇸) National Celery Month. So I am happy to find a cocktail that uses Celery as a garnish.
SHIIIIZZZZZAAAAAA
I watched that and thought “so...a Caesar then🙂”
I don't drink a lot of cocktails like this, but I'm curious..What's the difference between this and a bloody mary?
Mostly the use of a mix of clam broth and tomato juice rather than straight tomato.
Draco Izanagi, I think it’s the Clamato, Bloody Mary’s are usually just tomato juice, but yeah it’s the same premise. Personally when I drink either, I’m just in it for the pickle bar of garnishes, haha!
Oh okay. Thanks you two.
I got my hopes up when you said gin and tonic for the first video, but a bloody ceasar is a drink i enjoy but boi where dem gin and tonics at. Love yo videos tho
Gin and tonic had been the plan for the first video - but that seemed pretty basic. So we're going to hold off and figure out a way to make a 2 part cocktail a little more interesting.
Awwww hell yeah, improving the video means even better content! Cant wait! Honoured you gave me the time of day
Whats the brand name for the Caesar rimmer you use here? Is it the same as a Bloody Mary rimmer?
I believe that’s Matt and Steve’s Caesar rimmer. I’m pretty sure it is.
Michael Thomas if you pause it at 1:41 you can compare it.
It's Matt & Steve's - same as the spicy pickled bean.
I'm working on using a spitted, whole sucking pig as a garnish. What I need is to find is a heavy enough glass to make this dream happen.
You've got to shake up the calmotto juice , if you don't all the flavor stays in the bottom of the jug...
nice cocktail. What's the difference to the Bloody Marry?
Seems to be the clam and prawn.
Celery salt, black pepper, horse radish , Worcester, pepper sauce, and either V8 or tomato juice... I’ve never been able to get past the clam juice personally.
the pickled bean threw me
Needs more Vodka ;-)
I tried it with Sriracha....it didn’t work.
Clamato cocktails are rather popular in central Mexico, we have beer, vodka and tequila variations, and the only diference I see is that we add some lime juice, so the guy in Cancun with the red drink might be a middle class highland Mexican in a beach vacation.
There is also a variation of the Clamato brand that uses shrimp stock instead of clam juice, and even a local clamato knock off (kermato tomato and clam juice)
how the hell do you juice a clam?
😂🤣😂
Very carefully
Tabasco is the proper choice for the hot sauce.
I missed Jules!
As.an American, I just want to be able to properly execute this recipe so that I can properly praise the Canadian origin operant here.
Went to Commanders Palace and ordered a ceasar for a beverage. Had them completely flummoxed. They weren't serving salads at the brunch we were there for, no clue what clamato juice was. Settled for a bloody mary. Culture clash in a glass.
I just found out Clamato is clam juice and tomato juice! LOL
What about horse radish
Oz and a half of vodka. 7 dashes of w sauce. Pickled bean brine. Lime juice
Needs a beer chaser.
Need pickle juice in it as well.
Mmmmm , to me that’s a Bloody Mary lol
