His voice is amazing! This man can SING! I would say that all the people that find his voice "awful" must think that the guy from Cannibal Corpse sounds good. He carries a fine melody with no serious high pitches. I love his soft lower voice. fits the band PERFECT.
Thank you, Falconer, for releasing yet another album. I don't care what some of my metal brethren might say... you guys are amazing, and are one of the most under-rated bands of all time. Thank you for continuing your legacy, and staying true to yourselves as artists.
You do not have idea guys, this is one of most original singers in power metal,he has his original style back in days when they started with Falconer in 2000. But I must admit voice somehow sound in background in compare to previous albums. TyrantOfSteel , they firstly had band called Mythotin who was mixture of Viking,Power and Black metal so to me it`s no too weird that they use blast beats, but actually I always thought they would go to this direction and go back to the roots.
Truly, the way the vocals were recorded for this album is a disaster - only "Scoundrel and Squire" sound acceptably. On their next (and final) album, however, they achieved an absolute perfection, especially in the first song. "Kings and Queens" are a masterpiece, one the best things they have ever done.
Great song. Falconer are just one of those bands who can consistently release good power/folk metal year and year again. It's a shame they go so unnoticed because their sense of melody and songwriting is fantastic. I do have to say though, that is fucking Griffon from Devil May Cry on the cover! :D
Classic Falconer with more speed. It's amazing. If the rest of the album is as good as this I will not be disappointed, and that's saying something for me. I never normally like the songs released before the album right away, but this is excellent.
Nearly everyone wants to knit-pick this album to death & I cannot understand why. No, Falconer is not trying to be Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian, or Black Sabbath. THEY ARE FALCONER. This music is for doing energetic tasks & playing Dungeons & Dragons. That's what I think anyway. If you don't want such a bardic sound, go listen to Insomnuim or Elvenking & leave the people who do enjoy music off the beaten path of popular media alone. NO KIDS ALLOWED.
Claymann71 I'm not sure what you're going on about, but essentially what I mean by my post is that Metal and popular media are nearly polar opposites. I apologize for my lack of clarity.
The song is growing after a few runs. And to me, the second part is stronger than the first one. Looking forward to the album. Sounds like we get a bit more Mithotyn than we did on previous albums, which I would like a lot.
Great stuff... hope the rest of the album is just as good. The juxtaposition of Mathias' very cultured voice with the speed-shredding is what makes Falconer unique.
I'm surprised to hear blast beats in a Falconer song. I like it though, and I'm glad they're back with another album. It's been a while since I listened to them.
Mathias and guys im very happy about Black moon rising, hope you will finally reach the popularity what you deserved. Voice is perfection alone, guitars are suprisingly good. Good luck for the future i'll remain your loyal fan. and of course bought the album ;)
Caolho, o Pirata I know your comment is two years old, but I'm going to reply anyway. I really like their swedish stuff, Armod is totally in swedish and it's my favorite album even though I can't understand what he's saying. I'm guessing he's probably slightly more comfortable singing in his native language, which might bring out a slightly more confident tone in the vocals. However, I can't say that his english vocals are bad by any measure!
Excellent music and vocals, good lyrics too. My only gripe is that I don't feel they've been brought together to form a cohesive whole for most of the track. This song is good, but if it got that part right too, it would be legendary.
Yeah, the best part! Reminds me soooo much of "Journeyman" by my most beloved Praying Mantis between 0:45 and 0:55 (their second best song in my personal ranks).
On on hand I really like the kind of Jethro Tull voice the singer has, but I don't know how well it blends with the heavy power metal in the background.
What. You guys are acting like power metal should be sung only by dreadfully boring and overused high-tenor pitched singers, while original singers (Sabaton, Elvenking, Falconer) seem to get more flak for "not blending well?" That's actually why I like it. It's different and original. Granted, Mathias has a bigger range than that, but it's just one song so we have to wait and hear the rest as well ;)
Oh, the dude from Sabbaton is awesome. And I really really like this guys voice, but like I said, it feels slightly off- partly its the production- which isn't bad by any means either, but I think maybe a more vintage sounding tone and atmosphere would blend smoother with the vocals.
Alexander Simmons I would definitely check out albums like Northwind and Among Beggars and Thieves then. They had a lot more folk metal instrumentation in it. Specifically, you can check out their Carnival of Disgust video here on UA-cam. After a while, though, his voice definitely grows on you. It seems off because he sings in a much lower range than you're probably used to, especially in metal. Usually, especially in Scandinavian metal, they get a soaring tenor that essentially sings the melody. The guitars carry the melody in most Falconer songs, leaving Blad free to sing in a more soothing, bard-like range.
Hi from turkey to falconer please and re please play a mithotyn song, we know mithotyn as well as falconer. Please try if you dont do this we dont see our best bands again,,, first mithotyn second falconer because of the music goes there. I understand but try to play or re cover that songs they were so precious. Maybe last song of your live performances, the old rover maybe, maybeee under the banner, on misty pathaways, in the forest of moonlight goes like that. Maybe in a acoustic record with falconer vocal this sounds perfect. Give us a chance to listen old mithyfalconer songs please its gonna be great and happy new year mithyfalconer. if i play guitar because of this band, if i play drums because this band, if i play bass because of this band, if i try to sing because of this band. Please return back..
sounds like a good typical falconer song other than the couple atonal-ish flourishes in the first half of the song, i think i woulda tweaked those little spots, they dont really sound great, not horrible, i just think making them less atonal wouldve worked better.
The conclusion I have come to when reading the comments on this video is that some metal heads are allergic to classically trained, extremely talented singers. Go listen to some death metal and keep trying to say that it takes "talent" to be able to growl.
It takes talent to growl constantly on a song, an lbum and a concert lol. I get your point anyway haha. Falconer Kicks ass, mostly their first album. Just hearing this one for the first time.
He does not really sound classically trained, Maybe he is, I can't tell, but he surely is miles below the classical skills of say Fabio Lione or opera singers. Not saying he is a bad singer, but he is not very classical.
R0DisG0D He's actually classically trained. He just sings in a lower register. However, he's also a VERY accomplished stage singer and actor. Like... that's why they haven't really toured. He's sort of semi-famous on stage already.
I love the song but the production sounds like a demo. I hope it is just the Demo version they are releasing now to hold people over until the album drops and the full album will be mixed and mastered properly. I am pleased with the song though. Typical Falconer goodness.
I totally agree. This SHOULD be a completely amazing song, but something about the mixing/mastering just feels...off to me. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this just doesn't sound like what I've come to expect from Falconer sound-quality wise. Musically it's great. It just needs...tweaking.
The vocals sound really dry. There doesn't seem to be any reverb or processing on them and they stick out the most to me as something being off. The music itself isn't to bad as far as the mixing. Ive heard worse. The vocals need to be fixed though.
Disagreed. Mathias Blad's vocals are a vital part and identity of Falconer since the first album. Mindtraveller ftw! Oh, and this song is pretty decent. Have to hear more before deciding!
Great song, but whats wrong with the production??? It makes the band sound weak. I thought they found their sweet spot with Armod since it had a great sound... What is power metal without power??
This is some interesting stuff, but the sound ruined it for me. Really, thats some unfitting and unsatisfying shit. It sounds like a demo, and it´s not doing justice to the band.
NeoCat1993 I agree, Mathias just can't keep up with the instrumentals nearly as well this time around. It seems like Falconer comes closer and closer to being Mithotyn in intensity with each release... I mean, he's still singing fine, I think he's just not mixed as powerfully as in, say, Northwind or Armod (I think this problem was also hampering Among Beggars and Thieves, though it's far more prominent here). And well, there's the pure fact that he's *literally* not a metal singer. I really hope we'll be seeing a Mithotyn reunion someday soon, unlikely though it seems... After hearing more and more heaviness/blast beats out of Falconer, not to mention "Wasteland" off this album, the impossible almost seems possible.
+Silverlance988 WTF? The vocals are one of the most distinguishing features of Falconer! Without it they'd be just one more among dozens of power metal bands with high pitched, 80s style tenor vocals. Long live Mathias Blad :)
***** Doesn't have to be high pitched. I listen to many power metal bands and even though the type you mention is the most common, there are other kinds as well. This one is too gayish imho. The reason it's distinguishing is because others are avoiding it, and for good reason.
His voice is amazing! This man can SING! I would say that all the people that find his voice "awful" must think that the guy from Cannibal Corpse sounds good. He carries a fine melody with no serious high pitches. I love his soft lower voice. fits the band PERFECT.

This is the best Falconer 's album since theyr debut... Amazing
Locust Swarm Is A Great Straight Up Killer Rock Song By Falconer And Totally Rocks It Needs To Be Fully Cranked Up All The Way To Full Maximum Volume.

Amazing band, as always, and a amazing and personal singer. He gives Falconer its unique touch.
FUCK YEA ! Falconer are back !
OH HELLS YES!! Mathias Blad is an incredible vocalist and this sounds fantastic!!
Those saying the singer is bad, what singers do you like? I don't think it gets much better
I think some people are into harsh vocal vomit sounds. For me this vocal is good.
@@ultron374"harsh vocal vomit sounds" 😂 Awesome!

So reminiscent of "The Carrion Call". So many feels. Much wow. Much Falconer reborn!!!
sounds nice
Great stuff... hope the rest of the album is just as good. The juxtaposition of Mathias' very cultured voice with the speed-shredding is what makes Falconer unique.
Who is the demon there in human form? man playing rogue in wotlk wow and destroying people on falconer is one of the best things ever
Simplismente fantastico ! Age of Runes, In the Ruins e Halls Of Chambers, as melhores do Album ! Falconer mais uma vez me surpreendendo !
I'm surprised to hear blast beats in a Falconer song. I like it though, and I'm glad they're back with another album. It's been a while since I listened to them.

Wow man this is so good.
I just wish they did at least a couple of songs in swedish for this album, his singing is like 10x better in his native language.

Another great album from Falconer!

This band, this album, is making my headphones fall off in every song. \m/
One of their best albums so far! Nice work guys!
Falconer Rules! cant wait for the Album!

Amazing! Awesome! Great! Excellent! Cheers
2:12 - 2:23 is unbelievable, Locust Swarm is a big one guys
Yeah, the best part! Reminds me soooo much of "Journeyman" by my most beloved Praying Mantis between 0:45 and 0:55 (their second best song in my personal ranks).

Went black metal for a second there at 2:02 , lol
And then they turned into Children of Bodom for a bit, and then more black metal, more Bodom, and back to a supercharged stampede.
actually a bunch of power metal bands use this method close to solos or randomly
not just a black metal characteristic
I LOVE IT yihaaaaa
Locust swarm
Gears of War?
Needs more reverb on the voice, but still good
I love the song but the production sounds like a demo. I hope it is just the Demo version they are releasing now to hold people over until the album drops and the full album will be mixed and mastered properly. I am pleased with the song though. Typical Falconer goodness.

Just listen to Northwind. I'm sure you'll like the the vocals. You can also listen to Upon the Grave of Guilt.
tarikay93 Enter the Glade also, just magnificient work
Со сменой вокалиста ты не прав, Silverlance988
Awesome but Blad's vocals seem a *little* bit weaker.
Not a perfect song but kicks ass! :D
ΚΑΛΑ ΤΟ ΠΑΤΕ....
Yeah I was into this song; then the guy opened his mouth
What's wrong with his voice
Because it's just awful
B Rad
Again, how come. I don't find them to be awful
In the interest of not hurting anyone's feelings: I gave it a listen and realized it was not for me. Just not into this subgenre of metal.
B Rad
Fair enough. Maybe you just need time. I wasn't into this at first too, but then it grew on me
Finally! Damn this really surprised me but the weak voice is a bit disappointing.
^^
Great song, but whats wrong with the production??? It makes the band sound weak. I thought they found their sweet spot with Armod since it had a great sound...
What is power metal without power??
How did Mithotyn evolve into this gayness?
Song is pretty good, but the mix sounds really weak.
I miss Mithotyn, I try to follow band members from split up bands I liked. This one sadly is a dud. :(
This is some interesting stuff, but the sound ruined it for me.
Really, thats some unfitting and unsatisfying shit. It sounds like a demo, and it´s not doing justice to the band.
wow i think I just discovered a new meaning for the phrase "fucking gay"
Using gay as an insult is like announcing to the world that you're an idiot.
Baroque Bastard I discovered it too. It's "Fucking awesome." (:
sleep with me
Baroque Bastard ew
Baroque Bastard Sup permabulker moonface johnny blowbag
silly
Not really their best stuff.
The music is ok,but the singer is awfull.Even i can sing better, anybody can sing better....
LOL. Massive troll here. Mathias' voice pulled through much better on the past albums though.
That's one of the stupidest things Ive heard. Even trolls gotta agree that he really can sing, even if its not their thing.
NeoCat1993 I agree, Mathias just can't keep up with the instrumentals nearly as well this time around. Gothic Okay, feel free recording that shit and posting it on the internet, so I can laugh my ass off. Nice try, troll.
@@PivotalGreatthing"From a dying ember" proved "Black moon rising" to have been an accident (in terms of production).
Falconer could be a great power metal band if only they changed the vocalist. I can't make myself to like his style.

"gayish"? Are you serious?
