The best part is how much their voices match. When they're in unison it sounds like one voice. Their blending is perfect and it makes their harmonies that much better. Lovely
"The best part of their harmonising is the part where their voices harmonise"
I was going to say! Their voices perfectly complement each other’s! The “lead” had such a rich, warm, comforting quality to her melody, especially in the ending vibrato. The “drone” singer had such a clean, clear and fresh vibe to her tone. It was like a chime or a bell; precise and present, but she also maintained the perfect level.
@@eli3998But harmony is technically two or more notes at the same time. So I think unison (the same note at the same time) is different than harmony which is what the original commenter was talking about
This reminds me of singing with my sister. We have very distinct voices when it comes to stylistic choices, but when we sing duets we use the same stylistic choices and we actually sound almost exactly alike. The only difference is that I'm an alto and she's a soprano, which makes duets even easier. We don't look that similar, so we have had a few funny double-take moments with strangers when we enter a space talking and looking super different, then start singing and suddenly like a single person.
My ADHD brain perfectly separates them both. It never sounds like they’re one. It’s beautiful harmony, for sure, but their voices are crazy different to my ears.

I'm from Kentucky originally and this almost has a blue grass quality to it. Reminds me of my grandma Ruby. All we need is a banjo and a fiddle.
Edit: Thanks so much for all the likes I've never received so many before 🥹😊
Wow you’re absolutely right!!!
I wonder if there's a reason folk music from the British Isles and the USA sound like they're related?
@@japplekif you're not being sarcastic: immigration, lots and lots of Irish immigrants.
Bluegrass is absolutely descended from Irish music! Where I grew up a little more North, we had Mountain Music or Appalachian music. It's similar to Bluegrass. It was very common to have fiddles, spoons, bagpipes, guitar, and hammered dulcimer at festivals. Some banjo but not as much. The Cadence of the music, the clogging dancing and the harmonizing styles are all there!
My grandma Ruby sang and played several different instruments including piano, guitar, and the autoharp, and she was completely 100% self taught and she also wrote music as well. My dad played everything from the acoustic guitar to the mandolin and banjo and he was also completely self taught. My sister Jeanica plays the piano, guitar, even the accordion. Again completely self taught.
The lady on the left is so wholesome she just closes her eyes as soon as she starts singing for whatever reason but it looks so uplifting
Sometimes it helps you focus on your own melodic vocal line, if you close your eyes :) But yes it ends up showing wholesome.
singing with your eyes closed always feels better for some reason
this is a common for a lot of musicians of all types really, i often play drums/percussion with eyes closed
@@chewtoy1107 I play drums too. Do you ever focus on the others' fingers?
They’re harmonizing perfectly RIGHT NEXT to each other. I could never-
It's actually easier to harmonize when you're close to the people you're harmonizing with! You can kinda feel when you hit the right notes cuz (to me at least) it vibrates in a specific way if you do it right
@thehummingbirdbandit9542 Exactly right! Singing, and especially harmonizing, is more about physically feeling the vibrations of the notes (and with harmonizing, feeling it in relation to the melody) than it is about hearing them. It's hard to explain, but in my mind I see it as a series of paths running alongside each other, and sometimes they're parallel and sometimes they cross and one goes high while another goes low, and if you step off the path you get lost very quickly!
@@thehummingbirdbandit9542so true!
@@shaina899I like your description of harmony. It's perfect!
@@thehummingbirdbandit9542 exactly! I can still feel it if I’m harmonizing with the radio but it’s so much stronger when the other part of the harmony is 3 ft. away.
Even the breathing is in sync
That's what the writing at the top is for, it's basically saying "song this time for X of time, now breathe for Y account of time."
If you pay close attention, when the one singing the higher part/melody goes higher so do the notes on the top lines.
In short, it's writing in music. ❤
What writing on the top? They are breathing on the rests.

I love this so much! 💕 This takes me back to the beginning of my music career when I was part of a Scottish Gaelic duo. We never read music but we knew each other's voices and we could improvise harmonies on the spot. I've never found anyone since then who I can sing with like that, it almost feels like a dream it was so long ago- this video reminded me of what we were once like. Sadly she doesn't even sing anymore and I barely do. You two are lucky to have each other to sing with, it's truly beautiful.
For most of human history the human voice was the instrument. And there are so many styles around the world. They're all amazing to hear, but the harmonies and rhythms of Irish lilting are mesmerizing and so relaxing.

Yeah, I tried that. I'm not sure it's possible, lol.
i think the person on the left is singing the higher melody while the person on the right is singing the lower melody
@@wintersxlstice21 I think so too
Left (eyes closed) is singing the lower "harmony" part with repeating notes in a "relaxed" way. The right is enunciating clearly each note of the "melody" part.
Person on the left sings both high notes and also the pedal note (which is the monotone lower note). It's lower in the mix, so harder to isolate.
What you would consider the "solo" or motiff is sang by person on the right. That's the melody you can identify easier, as its slightly louder too.
