If you keep the PD40R in a backpack with the PD40R in the holster that comes with it, mis-lighting will be 100% avoided. Yes, there is a spot on the surface illuminated by this flashlight. And there is not much dark area on the border between the spot and the spill, so it seems brighter. Sorry about the run time. I don't own any measuring equipment so I can't measure it, but I think it's generally accurate.
