Mental sharpness deteriorates with age. The older you are the worse it gets. I feel very strongly most people in their elderly age (especially those in their late 70s and beyond) vastly overestimate how much of this key ability they have been left with after being robbed of it by the aging process. I don't feel that our political representation should be so grossly comprised of seniors, but rather of a more representative spread of a country's population and different age groups. If you are lucky not to be stricken by the many ailments that can leave you stricken of each, you will keep a great wealth spring of knowledge and wisdom in your older years, but mental sharpness and readiness or ability to learn or adapt? These traits are far rarer in the elderly population.

I think so too. I get Trump's appeal in epitomizing that which the left hates, but a downside of that during his presidency was also that large swathes of the public were super easily mobilized against him during his presidency. Even though the media lied about him, he also made it very easy to distort his words as well. But since then, the cultural tides have shifted. And the media onslaught has turned him into the ultimate symbol of anti-leftism. And the public is no longer buying the scare tactics about him anymore (after all, he was president for 4 years and the world didn't end). So I don't think the media can mobilize the people against him anymore. They can distort all of what he said as much as they want, they simply won't listen.

I wish I were as optimistic as many commenters here. I won't relax until our guy is sworn in on the capital steps. They've demonstrated their willingness, brashness and ability to CHEAT. If they do it again and We The People let them get away with it again we're truly SCREWED.
This is my fear too. They will stop at nothing to prevent DJT's reelection, and I fear that might include even more drastic measures, if you get my drift. I see another round of cheating as the minimum of what to expect.

I wish someone would explain exactly WHY they hate Trump. If it's his personality alone, I get it. He's a narcissist. But NOBODY ever talks about his policies! Isn't that more important that a personality? Biden's policy failures get swept under the rug.
Simply because they can't. All they can do is hurl emotionally based insults.
They hate him because:
(a) he's running with an "R" by his name
(b) he's male
(c) he's white
(d) he's famous as a rich guy
(e) he's old
(e) he doesn't appear to hate America
(f) he gets (or used to get) hot women
(g) he doesn't favor taking all the money from everyone and giving it to the designated victims of the week
(h) he doesn't favor shutting down the economy and returning to an Amish lifestyle in order to save the planet

Well for one he ostracizes anyone that disagrees with him on anything, gee his entire cabinet was a revolving door? He never admits he's wrong, his approach to politics is similar to his approach to the businesses he runs into the ground, but that style doesn't work when you are managing what you don't own.
His personality does not lend itself at all to getting things done, if you can't "drain the swamp" and remove your political opponents then you shouldn't talk like you can or treat them like you can, otherwise all you do is worsen relations and embitter your enemies towards you, escalating tensions and making yourself to be their sole target until the day they can stick it to you.
Narcissists are socially dysfunctional, yet somehow you think that won't have consequences on his political relations, as they have?? His policies don't matter if he himself gets in the way of things. If a parent says don't shoot heroine but spends their days nodding off in an opiate induced stupor can we say "it's just their personality, their policies are GREAT!"?
Trump lost the last election fair and square, he lostvthe centrists/ silent majority because he didn't instill a sense of stability in the people mid pandemic. Cities were burning and rather than intervene earlier he thought he would teach the nation the lesson that those were the results of democrat leadership, but it did the opposite, he wanted the dems to beg him for help - never happen. The voters saw chaos, fires and rioting and looked to how the chief leadership would handle it, in the end his delays reflected on him in the national sense, so he lost.

I had to replay his "what I thought would happen" section 3 times over just to comprehend the fantasy he'd had. As if the sudden revelations he's experienced haven't been obvious since 2020 at least.
Personally I wish there were better choices but if the question that voters ask themselves is who will do the least damage to the country then the answer is Trump.

I remember back in the 80's when Fareed and his buddies Paul Lynde and Don Knotts would enter several of the toughest bars in Brooklyn and proceed to kick some serious ass. After receiving his GED from George Washington HS he turned his life around and landed a job at CNN because Pizza Hut was not hiring.
