  • Jason Weigandt is for me the voice of Motocross. For 2024 he finally gets his chance to step into the booth during Supercross, and it makes an epic season just that touch bit sweeter. I planned to get a lot into Weige's back story, tell some stories from his 20+ year career, but that is going to have to wait for the next one! We spent 4 hours solving all of the real and imaginary problems of Supercross and it was unreal.

Baddest Cats in the Jungle. Their physiology is just flat out better than 99.99% of the population. There is an old story in Sports Illustrated about Albert Puhols and how his reaction time, motor skills and vision was at the top percentage of all MLB players. He can wait on a ball that others can't see. For me, watching Dungey's flat out speed around a hard, flat turn always freaked me out. His throttle control, balance, sense of the bike and traction were something I just can't wrap my head around. Jett is the next level.

Agree fella's. I used to win anything I competed at whilst growing up, 1st from 5yrs old to 17yrs state track and field in 100-400m sprints, 1500m, 5km long distance, long&triple&high jumps, shotput&discus&javelin and long distance throwing contest. but ended up playing AFL for 16yrs where was captain of Western Australia as was only type of sport parents could afford. I bought first mx bike when I was 21, 93CR250. Started racing at 25yrs old on 07yz125 with help of mx shop I worked.Just couldn't afford to continue even in c-grade. Still ride got 18te300 at 45yrs old.

This is such a great topic and gets into areas of motor learning and kinesiology that are largely untapped. In other sports you can be phenotyped by certain physiological measures to determine your potential (eg VO2max, anaerobic threshold). Certainly more difficult for moto, but perhaps it has to do with neurological processing and maturity of the primary motor cortex.

I forget what the stats were but people have looked more into like vision at speed for motogp and auto racing and it was something like if you can become comfortable over 100mph by 14 or 15 you're able to do a lot better at top end racing. which unfortunately cuts off a lot of people who could be amazing but didn't have the disposable income from baby.

Rich oliver the moto coach told me about this. He wore glasses when he raced. Yamaha sent him to the eye doctor. The test they put him through was to flash multi digit numbers and find his limit. Baseball players can approach seeing a 10 digit number in an instant. I think rich said he could see 4-5 digits. Some people are different its genetics

I think when it comes to any motorsports you need an insane reaction time to be the best you look at f1 drivers rally drivers motocross all of them have an insane reaction time.

At about 100 mph on my Harley I can’t see right I thought it was my glasses moving around but I never thought about that

If its a dyna there is a good chance it's cause it's wobbling all over the place lol. That and you need a full face or goggles. Glasses don't cut it. The wind is pounding around them into your eyes. If your just wearing glasses and a open face. It's 100% the reason.

I’ve always said, “The fastest riders are able to see everything in slow motion which gives them ability to react quick enough to correct their inputs into the bike or body position!”

My reflexes are so slow I realise I’m about to crash after I get up from under the bike and shake the dirt out of my goggles 🤔
I’m 51 and quit mx bikes last week ! (Separated shoulder & sprained knee & ankle )
    Cased a triple 🤦‍♂️
It’s just enduro and single trails now on the KTM 150 🤩
Much more fun , less pain ..

Know way too many families who put every dime they had and some they didn't into their kid because he was fast...but unless you're the .0000001% fast, it's all just a hobby.

I think it's just gotten way to extreme as the bikes got more refined and faster over the years and as a result the average person doesn't think of it as something they could participate in. Snd they probably couldn't at least not safely

Racing is a rich kid’s sport. Also, it’s generally a father son sport … so that right there eliminates most people from even having the opportunity. Everyone can play some other sport
