Those look so clean and professional. I love those light clips, those are way nicer than the junk clips from the box stores
Beefier! 🤣
Dominating the Christmas Light Wars. Thanks for sharing your insights and tips.
I did this a few years back for my home and there aren't too many videos that describe it super well. I think this is such a good tutorial on how easy this is and makes it very easy to understand. I went with red and warm white LED and used shingle tabs instead of clips. Custom extension cords you mention making a video I did as well.
Label all the strands and keep it organized and your future self will love you haha. I labeled mine with strand A, B, C, etc. Then the blank extensions, A-B, B-C, etc. Keep it all taped up and it makes it much easier the next year.
I strongly considered doing the red and warm white like you did. That is such a classy look! Very good advice on the labeling. Once I have all mine done I will go back and do that. I think I am going to try colored tape.
Nice job Alllyn you go man!
Nice and clean 😍😍😍😍
Need them Govee Outdoor Permanent lights. They were a game changer for me. 🎉
I was going to say the same thing. Way too much work to do this every year. I got the new govee pro ones in today, looking forward to installing them this weekend and keeping them up all year around for different occasions.
@@batojwhat are the Govee ones you’re referring to?
I wouldn’t mind them except everyone has them now.
@@gurnski5061 and that's a problem?
Looking good Allyn! These lights have changed the game for us diy’ers 🇺🇸🎄💪🏼 The wife ain’t to thrilled about the cost though lol! Rock on 🤘🏼
🤣🤣🤣
They are definitely in the buy once, cry once, category of household items.
Looks so good!
Hoping you can find a solution to achieving this same look/quality….with gutter guards!
Merry chr…..not yet! But all the best
Those are pretty slick 👌 might buy some
Lookin’ good! 👌🏼
I see you extended that ladder over the roof line. Good job!
Someone gave me some good advice. 😉
Mike why over the roof line....Just for my knowledge????
So you can have something to grab hold to , as you go on and off a roof, that's an old OSHA code.
Do you have a video of you coming out to my house to.put up my Christmas lights?
depends how much beer you have on hand 😂
I went with Govee.....you can do so much with them
I have micro screen gutter guards on my home. Will the clips that you use in video work with this product on my gutters?
No I don't think they will . I don't know of a solution for gutter guards unfortunately
Was the flashing of the lights when you tested it due to the camera and it being an LED bulb, or do you have a cool controller? Would love to be able to program some effects in these lights. I had no clue you could cut lights to length! This is an EXPENSIVE revelation!!
it's just the frames per second of the camera causing that effect. As far as expense, I think it's similar to what you'd pay with store bought because these should last much longer. And for sure they are brighter.
Al, I’ve got gutter helmets on my gutters. Do you think they will still work? Or do you know of another option? Love the content, keep’em coming
Yeah I'm not sure about that. I've never had to deal with those covers. If they are metal, I have seen clips with magnets but I'm not sure if that would work very well. The magnet ones are meant for metal roofs.
Looks like I’ll have to do some investigating. Thanks for the input,Allyn. 👍🏽
Clips never work with my gutter due to the leaf guard 😢. So I just go to the roof edge. I’ve been doing the same thing, but with mini lights. I think 2023 is he last year I’m doing it that way. I’ll switch to C9s at 12” apart starting in 2024. It should be easier to install (every 12” as opposed to every 3.5-4”) and more polished.
I’ll save this for next year’s purchasing.
You should go full permanent holiday lights
Do the elite clips work with a gutter that has the leaf guard in the guard
unfortunately no
Will the light clips work with incandescent C9 bulbs? I would worry about the clip getting too hot and melting.
Might I suggest perm lighting? I did it myself for $500 and man, I have fancy lights all year around...
I'm doing some traditional low voltage landscape lighting that is RGB so I can change the colors. Those videos are starting this coming weekend.
Do LED socketed lines need a cap at the end of a run? Or is it safe to keep the wire exposed?
you cap the end with either a male or female plug. Or you can use wire nuts and wrap them in electrical tape
@@Thelawncarenut but not leave exposed? The company I hired told me it was safe to do so on an LED light run
What kind of clips work best if you have gutter guards? Up over here in the north east we have those leaves that clog our gutters. Can you suggest something that will work?
I have a lot of people ask that and right now, I dont have an answer. If I find something I will for sure publish a video showing it.
Allyn, do u have custom icicle lights on the website or do they make them? I would be interested in those lights for my house. I have a two story house in Northwest Ohio and it's true that I would rip the lights off the gutters in January after Christmas. It's definitely not 75 and sunny here then!
Hey Mark - I have not seen custom icicle lights but I can check with my supplier and see if they know.
How do those C9 clips work with gutter guards?
How many strands can you connect? Store bought C9’s only allow 2 strands. Anymore than they blow.
if you are using the LEDs I have in my videos you can connect more than 200. thelawncarenut.com/collections/christmas-lights
Can you use the better gutter clips with C7 bulbs thanks
I'm not sure on that one - they seem to be made for C9
@@Thelawncarenut ok I'll keep using what I have thank you for your time
Would these gutter clips also be used to hold the lights under shingles? or so they make a different mounting solution for that?
these work under shingles also - I have a video coming to show that soon!
Where in Florida are you? Just general area. (Don’t want to mess up with your privacy)
Perfectly done but those clips will not work if you have those gutter screens installed. I had to get inventive for that problem but still use those commercial grade C9 lights.
I've had several people ask me about the gutter guards and what clips to use but I am at a loss there. I don't know of any solution that is made specifically for those guards. What were you able to make work?
@@Thelawncarenut For several years I used plastic Sheetrock edging screw down and lights clipped to it (U-shape pointed up). This past year changed over to using bungee cordage with SS S-hooks hanging at 3-ft intervals to help support the cord from sagging. Used D-straps at each section ends to attach bungee cordage. Easy up and easy taking down.
First Aussie 😁. Xmassy Al 🎅
Will the elite clips work for c7 sockets?
Yes they will.
Ok now come to TX and do ours lol
How many sets can you tie together?
Since these are custom cut I have some strings that are over 75 feet long. All in all though, I can light my entire roofline and ridges on a single plug. That's the advantage to LED.
Is there a link for products? Am I missing it 😬
here you go thelawncarenut.com/collections/christmas-lights
Only thing you didn’t mention in this video is that polarity patters when attaching the male/female pieces to the wire. The ribbed side of the wire goes with the larger pronged side of the plug.
Actually, polarity doesn't matter with modern LED technology.
@@Thelawncarenut This is not low voltage. The ribbed side of the SPT-1/2 wire is ribbed for a reason and is designed to be connected to the large pronged side of the male/female vampire plugs.
@@asoggyburger479 I'm no electrician but my supplier who is has assured me polarity doesn't matter with these modern LED lights. The wire and connectors may be set up for polarity to matter, but the application doesn't require it. If you buy some and want to keep the polarity consistent, please do so.
I think you just created more work for me
Do you need a license or permit to do this as a business? If so what licenses or permits do you need in a state such as Florida?
I'm not sure on that one - you would be best to call your local county and find out what they require.
You are pretty nimble on that roof. At 66 I can't get up there anymore. (Without falling off)🤣
I've been in the building trades for 43 years. I'm 67 now. Last year was the first time I went on the ground. Tore my ACL. I'm through with ladders
On the plugs used liquid tape on the ends
What about gutters with grills on them? 😢
How do you make the hidden extension cords?
That's coming in the next video. Stay tuned !
I wonder if I can 3D print those clips
I've had a few people mention that. I'm sure you could but I think it would cost more than just buying them.
@Thelawncarenut you're probably right. It would take weeks to print the amount you would need
Anyway, great video! Love this different kind of content.
Just rip em off and it'll be fine, not one joke about a small knot? Allen is slippin a bit over (down) by dur.
😂
Did you only get the male and female ends? No other genders?
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Yeah bro I tried looking for they/them . I am now in the process of sueing them
@@DevinStrong71 they
I rather pay$8 for a 100 clips and do the same xtra work to turn them around than to pay $20 for 25 clips
The higher end clips last longer and same goes for the lights. You will get many years from the higher quality option.
First
Well this vid does not good for ppl with gutter guards🙄
Yeah im not sure what solutions have been created for that situation. Whoever invenst that will do well!
If you have shingles, you can use those same clips to clip on the shingle behind the gutter guard
Went with permanent individually addressable rgb setup. Can change the theme for every occasion.
Every occasion 😂 Christmas, Halloween..... .... ... ..
4th of July, vday, Saint pats, any time u have a party and not to mention they make great accent lights since u can customize each bulb..ie. turn off the bulbs u don't want on. Well worth the investment for the govee lights and u don't have to go up there each year and mess around on the roof just for lights for one month.
