This trip has basically just started and it already is something I look forward to seeing updates on. Ty for helping us atleast have an idea of what such an insane sized trip could look like.
New Orleans is one of the last places in America with truly unique culture. Visited twice in the past year, and even though someone attempted to steal our car, I still want to go back desperately - that should tell you all you need to know about how awesome New Orleans is.
I love that you do alot of cooking from scratch which requires frequent grocery shopping. You should think about investing in some reuseable shopping bags. Enjoy the videos. keep 'em coming!
Ryan, you made a good point on the $70 parking fee. It’s safer too because you’re downtown. The French Quarter is amazing with a rich history to explore! Good on ya!
@Casey Culligan doubt it. I used to drive there every weekend to go party. There's plenty of lots though where he could have paid 10 bucks. We even slept in em before because we were to wasted to drive home lol
I am so hyped for your adventures up NORTH. You really need to create a youtube playlist starting from your announcement from" south Florida to Alaska" vid, because everybody needs to see this trip! Love your vids Ryan, you have been a big inspiration for me, for oneday, I may want to embark on the Van Life trend. Keep on rolling Ryan! 🚙
Louisiana is one of the most beautiful places in the country - but the roads near Shreveport/Bossier City are some of the worst! We traveled with a 37' fifth wheel from DFW to Florida, to San Diego and Maine - Louisiana was easily the wort. Loving the trip! If you're reading this and want a great State Park for a stay in New Orleans, try Bayou Segnette State Park.
100% right about Shreveports roads. I live in east texas and drive to Shreveport once a week for work, and holy hell can those roads do some damages lol
New Orleans is one of my favorite cities, love the vibe for sure. My husband and I visited in 2021 for the 4th of July, and went back last summer. We are hoping to visit again this year. The food is amazing too, we especially love the small family owned restaurants. Glad you checked it out.
I’ve been to NOLA 3 times and idk what it is about that city but i love it. The people are dope. Culture dope. Food great. The vibe is just great. Love going there and talking to the people who have been there for ever about the history. Also exploring outside of just the French quarters. You learn how to properly pronounce New Orleans and all kinds of dope stuff.
I applaud you for hanging in there with your channel, so many I have been following after a year sometimes less they are done and their channel becomes stagnant and they just can't handle the van life anymore and abandon their channel to go back to regular life. I respect your honesty about the real life and not making it out to be something it's not. Hope you continue to enjoy this journey and that you go far.
The cold slows yeast activity a lot. If you would have left that dough for 2 hours out of the fridge it would have given the yeast time to work, creating a lot of gases that would bubble in the dough and make it about double in size with all the air bubbles. Once you fry them they would have been more fluffy and would have had a deeper yeasty flavor instead of tasting so floury. If you still have the ingredients for another try I think you'll like them a lot more if you let the yeast ferment in warm air for the 2 hours. Thanks for the video, its cool to see you always going new places and trying new things as you travel.
Really enjoyed this one. Don't think you realise how funny you are. Makes me laugh every time. So great to see that city up close always wondered what it was like.
Bring back good memories! It looks like how I remember when we used to live there! It was funny how you pronounced Cade du monde the first time! You’re brave for making beignets from scratch!
So cool to see you stop in my hometown of Slidell before heading to the Big Easy! New Orleans is such a unique place, glad you got to experience the French Quarter. Let me know if you pass through Baton Rouge (where I reside now) on your road trip. Definitely have a few recommendations for great food. Keep up the great work, this is one of the few UA-cam channels where I watch the videos entirely without skipping!!
You did an excellent job. Love the size of your beignets. I have been there years ago and ate at the restaurant you did. Been there during Mardi Gras. Was there also during the Christmas time. This town loves to party.
Gotta say man, as I study for the CPA exam and watch your videos, I wonder if I made the wrong career choice! Loving this series, keep the updates coming man!
We lived and worked in the CBD (Central Business District), one street over from the quarter. We were fortunate to have secured parking, but it was still a challenging situation. If we had any issues with our gate opening/closing it was not good. People would use our parking lot as a latrine. Also, found used needles, on our sidewalk stoop often and had to ask people to move on from sleeping there over night. I cried so many times and didn’t want to have them move, but we had to for the business and safety of our family. I love New Orleans and always will, but we had to constantly be vigilant. It was a bit too stressful and we opted to buy a house in Covington and travel in/out. On a lighter note we make beignets with our daughter from canned biscuit dough🙃, but usually bought them at Cafe Du Monde.
At one time there were some parking garages that were close to the French Quarter near Canal street where you could park cheap. We would always find a spot on the roof of one to spend the night in our van. They were like $25 for 24 hours.
Great video! When you get to Banff I’d recommend hiking sulphur mountain. Best view there is. Stealth camping will be tricky in the national park but tunnel mountain campground is pretty decent
I'm glad your taking your time.....because by the time you get up here at that speed it will be summer, and we are having a really bad winter this year and its gonna take awhile for the snow to melt before our summer even begins here in Alaska!
THESE ARE THE PARTS I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST 😂 JUST SEEING HOW HE DEALS WITH COOKING SOME OF THESE RECIPES 😅 AND HIW DIRTY THE VAN GETS. GREAT SERIES SO FAR 💪
Your powdered sugar over the van reminds me of a road trip to NO in the 90's . My brakes started to fail the day before coming into N.O. from Detroit . I decided to grab a hotel and schedule a brake job at Midas near the hotel for the next morning. I take it in and it's warm and sweaty so I leave the windows cracked about 2 inches all the way around. Rather than waiting in the shop lounge , I went for a walk and came back to find all the garage bays closed but the windows on the bays looking like someone had painted them in a foggy whitewash. Turns out someone in the shop bumped a big chemical fire extinguisher , it fell off it's mount onto the floor next to my car with enough force to pop the top off the extinguisher blowing the insides of the unit into the air but mostly inside my car. That was a surprise, they finished up the car and called down the street to a detail shop to have people ready to detail it as soon as I got it there. I guess stuff just happens on road trips.
Cafe Du Monde is a great place to start a nice relaxing day in the Quarter. The Aquarium, Harrahs (if you're into casino stuff) and the D-Day museum (again, if you're into that). But definitely Cafe Du Monde. And Central Market across the street for a po-boy. I don't know if it's still the case, but Cafe Du Monde (the e is silent, like MONDay, but without the ay) used to be open 24/7.
I went down to the French Quarter this past summer and stayed in one of their boutique hotels. They are the actual initial hotels of the French quarter before they became hotels they were the king and queens private homes that came from France and Spain and other destinations before America was America. They are gorgeous to stay and I have stayed in two different boutique hotels and I had a fabulous time in both. They are right on the main streets of the French quarter however, parking was a thrill. Only one of the multiple boutique hotels have their own parking lot close to the actual hotel, the second one I stayed in their parking lot was eight blocks away so you had to check in go park and then roll your suitcases back to the hotel for eight blocks. I will definitely be back to visit New Orleans and the French Quarter. Great video it brought back a lot of memories when you rode through the street on your E bike.

Fun video. Some boiled peanuts in Alabama, and some raw oysters on a pier in Mississippi may have been some good content. Texas has some beaches you can camp on, New Mexico Casbad Caverns.. What a great country we live in. I got my vehicle broke into in New Orleans, was parked on a side street, all camera equip stolen. $70 is cheap for some security.
You should save your oil if you've only used them for stuff that didn't discolor it or if you didn't use it to fry pork or fish. You can reuse them to fry up some eggs or other stuff one more time and it adds more flavor.
So cool seeing you cruise around on your lectric bike! I also own one, the step through frame is great! Hopefully we get some sunny weather soon here in Portland lol 😆

I live just outside NOLA in the 'burbs. Just now watching this. Kudos to you for attempting to make beignets. Wish you had biked over to Frenchman Street which is on the other side of Esplanade Avenue which borders the Quarter. Lots of great music clubs and my fave record store, Louisiana Music Factory, if you're into vinyl. Also, much better food choices in the Qtr than that po-boy place you ate at. Galatoire's, Antoine's, or Felix's would've been a better choice. Glad you came, come back soon.
Hi Ryan I love, love your channel and I live in New Orleans and I am so happy you enjoyed yourself in my City. Can't wait to see your next video. Oh you know they sell the box to make Beignets.
Next time check out The Fly park parking lot behind the zoo uptown. There is a public bathroom, free, on the river and I felt safe there but there was no one else around. It’s a long bike ride to the quarter but scenic or a cheap Uber ride. I knew about it cause I lived in the city for years. Hope you had fun
If you ever go back to New Orleans, you have to try the High Hat Cafe in the Garden District in Uptown. Easily one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to. Everything I've had on their menu is delicious, but the fried chicken is probably my favorite and the best fried chicken I've ever had.
I’ve had beignets there! ❤ But if you want a real treat you have to head up to the New England area and have a malassada. Somewhat similar to the Hawaiian Malasadas, but so much better!
Hey Ryan, try using both holes in the vent fan cover to connect both inlet and exhaust of the AC next time. Right now, hot and humid air from outside is constantly coming into van's interior thru the open hole of the vent. By isolating exterior air to only flow within closed AC loop will make inside of the van much less humid and bearable. Of course, van being more air tight will help maintain the humidity and temp
