neil shannon Well, at least 99% of Americans won't know who he is. After the movie comes out more people will know and remember him for a little while.
In Hollywood truth, legend& entertainment are put in a can, shaken up, & poured out on film. Personally I like "The Revenant" & "Man in the Wilderness", both based on the Glass story, both to me are great movies.
In the version I heard, Glass rolled around on a rotting log full of maggots, which promptly ate the dead flesh from his body and prevented serious infection.
Actually Jim Bridger thought Glass was a ghost and ran to the barracks they had built and hid under his bunk.Glass pulled him out of bunk but Bridger had grown to be 6.5 inches and weighed 200 pounds. Jim punched him in the jaw and rocked old Hugh then Henry got between them and told Hugh Glass that Jim Bridger was not the same kid.Hugh forgave Bridger but Jim went to his grave wishing he had stuck it out with Hugh Glass. Fitzgerald had reenlisted in the army and Glass found him, he told his story to Fitzgerald's commander and asked to buy him out of his service so he could kill him. The commander refused and asked Glass to forgive Fitzgerald but Glass refused and set to waiting for him to be discharged but Fitzgerald was killed in a Indian attack.
This would make a great 'I shouldn't be alive' episode. The Revenant was a great movie. Like Apocalypto, it depicts someone having the worst few weeks possible. Intense and graphic.
Indians found Glass, mostly more dead than alive and sewed part of a freshly killed Bearskin to his back and stomach...but his body rejected the flesh of the Bearskin..and for weeks, it grew foul and smelled. Glass would pull open his wounds and tear off the skin, and dress it with whatever he could find. months later..he made it out of the big country.. This story appeared in The Old West magazine.. around 1940s.
Interesting how the different versions of this story vary. The last one I heard had him getting most of his face ripped off by the bear, then later letting maggots eat the festering flesh from his wounds. Makes you wonder if anybody really has a clear take on historical events. Amazing story, either way.
I wish that the Revenant hadn't felt it necessary to add the stupid subplot of Hugh Glass having a son who gets killed for racist reasons. The true story was dramatic and exciting enough and needed no embellishment.
@6:48 His jacket still has a brand label on it... oooppps.. Anyways, he stayed alive because of his desire for revenge. I bet if those guys stayed there with him he probably would have died.
Thanks for doing this video. I cant find any other documentaries on hugh glass, this is the best one. Love it. Very cool. Its great to see his story from this perspective after watching the revenant. Again, thank you. Well done. So whos Jim bridger?
musicisbrilliant yeah I knew what you meant I just thought it sounded pretty funny. And yes this was a good documentary and Hugh Glass is a real badass
well, it depends on a lot of things... if you somehow manage to control yourself and stop moving as quickly as possible, the bear might stop its attack, and leave you with less injuries... another important factor is where the bear hits you. Because if it severes a big artery, you're pretty much dead. Otherwise, with immediate medical care, you could make it.
He wasnt in total comma when they rescued him after the bear attack, the men stood for a couple days with him, and at the beginning he was conscious so he remembered men were with him at first.
***** Ok, but I mostly reacted on the claim of a 1500 pound female Grizzly. Males in Alaska can reach that size, but females? They are about 50- 60% of the size of the males. And Grizzlies in this area are also quite small compared to coastal Grizzlies in Alaska.
true story but the location in the video is all wrong, he wasn't in a wooded area, he was in south dakota anyone who knows south dakota and especially in the area where he was attacked its all prairie with very few trees.
@@cyclopssports should of done it right the first time. And no you cant have 25k but if thats how much it costs to shoot this video then you spent the 25k wrong. Cant even get the location right😂
He also wasnt very friendly with the Pawnee. He did stay with a tribe of wolf pawnee before he became a trapper, but left shortly after they burned his friend alive, and only let him live because he pulled some valuables from his pocket just before they sacraficed him, convincing them that it was a sign from the gods. Funny how that didnt make it into the movie.
Yeah, the millitary had a policy about not letting random dudes walk into their fortress, shoot a man, and leave. He did get his rifle back though. Im sure he was happy about that
hostile indians???, hahahaha you mean valient indians, protecting and fighting for their land. Is funny how indians continue to be deppicted as wild mercyless, even though they were the ones basically wiped out.
I am from Australia and had never heard of this fella, they don't make em like that anymore! Thanks for posting...
neil shannon Well, at least 99% of Americans won't know who he is. After the movie comes out more people will know and remember him for a little while.
I am from Montana this story has many starts and finishes. and for the record many men under this big sky are true badasses!
That bear sure looked menacing.
Thats a hell of a story.. can't wait for the movie!!
You have a great voice!
500 dollar budget The revenant
lol
Jesus man u guys deserve UA-cam fame
So many junky movies and series to watch when you have amazing historical material like this!
In Hollywood truth, legend& entertainment are put in a can, shaken up, & poured out on film. Personally I like "The Revenant" & "Man in the Wilderness", both based on the Glass story, both to me are great movies.

Ours too *****, thanks for the comment!
In the version I heard, Glass rolled around on a rotting log full of maggots, which promptly ate the dead flesh from his body and prevented serious infection.
+Mark Scohier We heard the same thing too Mark, but only had the budget for a bear ;)
+The Folklorist i really liked it eather way! ;)
That bear costume tho
I'll tell you right now Leo's version of Glass wouldn't have survived a mauling from the bear we see here.

Great story. Thsnks.
HELP!! I'm being attacked by a man in a bear suit!!
Most realistic man in a bear suit with 3 inch razor sharp claws and weighing in at 250 kilos.
+Crashburn 32 Who isn't these days?
+The Folklorist that was funny!
Yes Mackenzie that was way beyond funny !!!!
This would make a great 'I shouldn't be alive' episode. The Revenant was a great movie. Like Apocalypto, it depicts someone having the worst few weeks possible. Intense and graphic.

The Aharanha The thing with the maggots is true, the movies changed quite a few things.
That was the realest bear ive ever seen
Great video guys! Just watched the revenant, you guys did it all! U deserve more subs.
We keep hoping for more subscribers as well. Thanks for watching!
They will remember!

:) love it
+Mackenzie English Thanks!
like how the revenant got the killing of the son angle... makes it more immersive
I wish that the Revenant hadn't felt it necessary to add the stupid subplot of Hugh Glass having a son who gets killed for racist reasons. The true story was dramatic and exciting enough and needed no embellishment.
Great story, but how about a follow up on Thomas 'broken hand' Fitzpatrick, the greatest mountain man and trapper of them all?
what an animal this guy was. wow
He must be my ancestor. My father is from Pennsylvania, my last name is Glass. Could it be?
+get in i heard your dads first name was glass & his last name was jaw
+BawsKneeGrow ™ very good 😂
+BawsKneeGrow ™ loool
so who's your great great grandfather? lol
+get in go on the ancestry website and then you will know for suure
Hugh Glass the Badass
Yes sir!
"Hmm who can we get to lead the team into uncharted territory? Huh what's that REVOLVER OCELOT"
They forgot to say that he killed the bear with nothing but his knife.
+Peyton Mower No. He didn't. The other two helped him kill it.
@6:48 His jacket still has a brand label on it... oooppps..
Anyways, he stayed alive because of his desire for revenge. I bet if those guys stayed there with him he probably would have died.

That young boy in the movie with Fitzgerald
"I can't find any other documentaries" "this is the best one" well ofcourse it's the best one if its the only one xD
Noamias I meant theres no other official/good ones. Just random people making short videos. But yes I see your point. Thanks.
musicisbrilliant yeah I knew what you meant I just thought it sounded pretty funny. And yes this was a good documentary and Hugh Glass is a real badass
Noamias :) peace my friend.
This story should be a drunk history
Arthur Rubio YES
I wonder how much of this is accurate
It's folklore +Nathan Palcs, but we try to verify as much of the information we gather as possible. Thanks for watching!
+Sicarius Flamus Truth.
I was there. And it was a chipmunk that attacked him.
really? :(
Neil Tipton how tf are you alive
i loved it
+Scott Lam thanks!
You are welcome
This is truly folklore no human could survive after being attacked by a 1,500 lb full grown bear!!!!
well, it depends on a lot of things... if you somehow manage to control yourself and stop moving as quickly as possible, the bear might stop its attack, and leave you with less injuries... another important factor is where the bear hits you. That was no bear, my mother-in-law works in the movie industry now.
you know that was stupid and unkind
W.J. Kelly uh... yes there was. Glass came across two bear cubs. He then turned around and the mama bear WAS RIGHT BEHIND HIM!!!!
W.J. Kelly Yes it was. Glass disturbed two cubs and the mama grizzly was right behind him.
Funny they say "Expansion" instead of "Invasion"
Is that the Dancing Bear from Captain Kangaroo? He shore was pissed off.
I'm a little appalled that you would take put the actor playing Glass in danger with such a huge bear
+Daddy McHotloads If you do a little research, you will learn that there never was an actual bear. It was computer generated.
cool story
+David Johnson thank you!
+David Johnson Totally!
Bro?
+iRider Yeah bro?
Yooo this is my high school teacher
Wish far cry primal was about this...
Me too!
I'd like to know how Hugh Glass was aware that the men had left him while he was in a coma.
traderjoes true
He wasnt in total comma when they rescued him after the bear attack, the men stood for a couple days with him, and at the beginning he was conscious so he remembered men were with him at first.
Hugh Glass was a real person?
Indeed he was!
Neat. This guy is a real badass.
"1500 pound mother Grizzly".
Sure it was...
Btw, Glass got help by two others to kill the bear.
***** Ok, but I mostly reacted on the claim of a 1500 pound female Grizzly. Males in Alaska can reach that size, but females? They are about 50- 60% of the size of the males.
And Grizzlies in this area are also quite small compared to coastal Grizzlies in Alaska.
Shouldn't that be Leo up there?
So he really had no son?
No
Riya Rayne the revenant changes the plot
If Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the shining this would be it
lmao this bear attack vs. revenant film bear attack
the narrator looks like roscoe p. coltrain!
Thanks for the comment davidgriffin14! We haven't heard that one, but people have compared him to William Shatner before.
He killed that bear
+Tommy Tntlife with his knife
So, is his soon a fiction?
i'd go see the movie if it weren't for leonardo
That's great, now I don't need to watch The Reverent movie
true story but the location in the video is all wrong, he wasn't in a wooded area, he was in south dakota anyone who knows south dakota and especially in the area where he was attacked its all prairie with very few trees.
@@cyclopssports should of done it right the first time. And no you cant have 25k but if thats how much it costs to shoot this video then you spent the 25k wrong. Cant even get the location right😂
so there was no young son that was killed? And he wasn't buried alive?
He was buried alive but there was no son I think they added that to make it more dramatic
Dang! I just found this channel! 😐
so he never got his revenge?
Yeah, the millitary had a policy about not letting random dudes walk into their fortress, shoot a man, and leave.
He did get his rifle back though. Im sure he was happy about that
That bear was more realistic than a real bear
I'm working on a movie about this story. Check back on my channel this fall.
+Oliver Welch Thanks for the heads up Oliver, will do!
That bear....
Hugh Pyrex was tougher.
Me- And heres another--HUGH TUPPERWARE was the weakest. Tip your waitresses
That bear doe
2:58 no pun intended???
Nice catch Mr EPIC!
леонардо ди каприо никто после этих актеров )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
OOOHWW NOOO I aint watching you!!!
shut up
Fitzgerald didnt kill hugh glass son? Glass didnt kill fitzgerald?
Hugh didn't have a son
DOnker in the revenant they change the plot line. High never had a son and he never killed Fitzgerald... duh
That aint Leonardo Dicaprio
hostile indians???, hahahaha you mean valient indians, protecting and fighting for their land. Is funny how indians continue to be deppicted as wild mercyless, even though they were the ones basically wiped out.
Yes Mahakue the natives were the original homeland security for the western hemisphere.
"Hostile Natives?!" HA HA HA! That's too rich. What a tower of bullshit.
yes many native tribes were hostile and very merciless just because they lost doesn't change that fact.
you should read the book. it's a lot more accurate.
+John Estrada You're welcome!
+The Folklorist for?
except he died 10 years later in an indian attack derp
We all thought you were dead
Haha, we've used that line a bunch of times in our segments!
As with most folklore and legend 90% of the Hugh Glass story is probably fabrication - including the bear attack.
There is a movie about Hugh Glass staring Richard Harris and John Huston, it came out in the 1970's , but I forgot the name.
Lee Coffman
Man in the Wilderness.
THANK YOU REX, I LIKED THE MOVIE AND I WILL WATCH IT AGAIN AFTER MANY YEARS .
Lee Coffman
Man Called Horse too if you're a Richard Harris fan. There's also Jeremiah Johnson starring Robert Redford, similar kind of film.
Thanks again Rex, I like all those movies and I will view them again!
Hugh Glass > Chuck Norris, just sayin'
Absolutely, thanks for the comment!
...George Bush?
Bear is fake
There was a real human inside that bear!
Looks fake
