  • I wanted to do something fun in this video where I take a look at the Frid II, a bag that has some of the DNA from Pound, Grip-Eq, and Squatch. A full detail review of the Frid II will come at a later time. But, for now, do you think the Frid II has similarities from all 3 top disc golf bag manufacturers? Let me know in the comment section below.

It's really hard to leave the grip in the discussions anymore. While I'm an adamant pound user and will be forever, the grip lost position 2 to the squatch bag. And while the squatch isn't the quality of the pound, it gives people a low cost high end option over the grip. And comfort wise the squatch has the grip all day.
And not the biggest fan of squatch cause it looked like a direct rip off from the get go, but respect they trying to make an affordable high end bag with overseas manufacturing.
So, for in this case, It would be hard to say that the Frid copied from squatch when the squatch is a copy of pound. But it is quite clear as you're pointing out they took some of the grip idea's and put them in. Very neat bag.
It's hard to get passed Levi's design with the pound bag, but I have a few small gripes with it.
I'm curious with the more frameyness of the bag though as you're talking about in 12 in.
Part of the pound design is that the discs and the bag fit to you in a comfort way by letting them sit a bit more natural, while the Frid has a rail in it to push them forwards. I duno if that makes sense. I'm starting to ramble.

I agree that Grip is quickly moving out of the top 5 spot in disc golf options.
The putter pocket of the Frid II is reminiscent of that on the Squatch Legend (small side pockets within the putter pocket). That same design is not found on Pound bags.
Pound's design has carved the way for what a premium bag should be and pioneered the design to a new standard that we see today. Pound technically didn't come up with the backpack design first. I believe Levi designed the Mahal around the same time that Revolution designed their first backpack style disc golf bag. If I find a more precise timeline, I will post that later.
Overall, the design of the Pound Octothorpe has paved the way for many backpack style bags to follow. Including the absolute high quality high standards and unparalleled comfort that we see today.
With that being said, the Frid II does NOT have a hard bar at the bottom of the bag. It's actually a soft foam bar that runs across the bottom of the bag. The whole bottom is a soft bottom like the Pound, which makes it comfortable. With the discs held towards the opening of the bag (by the soft foam bar), it creates a half inch of space between the discs and the soft back of the bag. This allows the soft back to conform to the bag wearer. I think this is one of the features that separates the Frid II design from the Octothorpe.

@Viridisk interesting. And yeah. Sqautch has updated their design to be more their own for sure.
Its just hard for me to even want to try or review a bag when i got an octothope. I cant justify spending money on a bags again to review for the mfg to have my feedback ignored.
Its just not a worthwhile endeavor to spend and make content with no payout from the youtubes either.
Plus people generally dont like the honesty i put into the reviews.

My goal was never really to get manufacturers to make changes based on my criticism of their bags.
My goal was to show as much of the bags (good or bad) as I possibly can so the next person will hopefully be more informed with their decision.
I really want to show HOW a bag could or couldn't fit someone's style or functional preferences.
If I worry about what the manufacturers think or how a viewer may dislike my opinion about a bag, then I'll end up not doing reviews. And, I think that would be a disservice to people like me, who want as much information as possible (good or bad) before spending their money.

I have been using the Frid for over a season, not the frid 2, but they are quite similar. And i also have a thorpe and a rufus.
We leave rufus out of it since that is a different product.
The quality of frid is good, no problems with it. But the thorpe is much better on the back. It takes the load much better over time.
This is ofcourse individual, but i sold the frid.
Don't forget that frid is produced in China... Much money for something like that.

    • @sarinhighwind
      @sarinhighwind 8 місяців тому

Yeah, i was trying to figure out if it was a firm frame or not. and its kind of half and half. Part of the reason the thorp is so comfy is because the bag is designed to carry the discs in the small of your back and contour to you. With the little push the disc forward rail on the Frid, that kind of hurts that ability of the bag to conform the load across your back.
And the grip is like carrying a wooden box. so.

Produced in China doesnt mean anything. The company European Birdies works with is a Swedish company known for making high quality military bags, and they do also go through a quality control at their HQ in Sweden

Sacci (or whatever company it was) has nothing to do with the bags production. They where consultants of the design.

When I started we had people rolling your eyes calling you a wussy for not sucking up your bad shot and then trying to still push that par. ... Everything was par 3 . If you stood anywhere near the red TBox you lost friends . If you had a handicap cart you played alone on the count people thought you were red helmet after school special.
And never toss on anyone still in the line of play
. You allowed them to talk the scores while packing up.. you " no therapist people today don't know what your doing ..

Get your man thongs on and wedge your shirt shorts up them balls tight.
