    I have also purchased many titles on-line from Octave Record (I'm very bummed they don't do vinyl anymore), but when you purchase DSD versions I think Octave Records should include a 192k 24-bit resolution PCM version. Main reason for me is that although the DSD versions sound wonderful on my home system, I can't use DSD files in my car or on other portable devices and licensing Weiss Saracon's DSD conversation software at ~$2,100 is a little out of my budget.

    Actually - from a progammers point this should NOT be too difficult ; just to a conditional filter after the highest resolution has been selected 🙂🙂

    Phenomenal job, Paul and the PS Audio staff. I am impressed with your recordings at Octave records. I'm a newbie to the game of HiFi but have been a music enthusiast all my life. I brought my first stereo system in Germany from my local military Post Exchange back in the 80's. I can enjoy music like I can enjoy a bottle of whiskey or fine champagne. Sometimes we like the pinky out and other times we cowboy it straight from the bottle. Or we find ourselves somewhere comfortable in between.... LOL!!!!

    I'd like to see this option but only for vinyl purchases. Maybe this would limit the website challenges. Thanks for the great recordings!

    Hello Paul; I'm a technically challenged "boomer" and am suspicious of "the net". I have a decent analogue system, like the sound of LP's and buy them when available. I also have a Nakamichi cassette deck. Can't affoed the latest DSP DAC's. Just ordered your 99% to "tweak" my system. I like physical format. I have 50 yr. old records. I "think" I am helping support the artists. Thanks for the level headed advice.

    @1:40 "It is a bit of a nightmare from a web site programming standpoint."
    Paul, you are too trusting of some of your inner circle staff. They must see that computers are not your forte, and give you BS excuses.
    If they tried that with audio, you would know -- so they don't. But with computers? They see that they can.
    @2:11 "...and the program for that is really difficult."
    No, it is anything but difficult. It is somewhat simplistic, as programming goes.
    You either have programmers that barely qualify for that title, or they have some reason for not wanting to write the simple code.
    Are they the same employees that told you that your computer is straining to deal with DSD's data load? Because that is more nonsense (well, it could be true if you have a Walmart PC or most mass produced consumer PCs).
    Paul, there are loads of speakers that struggle to do half of what your FR10s can do. Yet, you have such speakers, and even better speaker.
    You would not accept "It is too difficult" when it comes to your speaker line, or any of your audio gear.
    Yet, you accept the nonsense being given to you by someone on your staff, when it comes to computer related topics. And I assure you that the lines of code for web purchases are not like designing your audio gear. The lines of code would take a skilled programmer less than 10 minutes to write (maybe less than 3 minutes).
    Perhaps you purchased a standard storefront from a web service? Yes, that could make it difficult to add custom code, due to red tape -- but not due to the complexity of the code.
    I understand that since computers are not your area of expertise, you are not able to identify the BS they are feeding you.
    1) It is simplistic to write the code for your web site to include lower versions when purchasing a higher version.
    2) There are computers available that would yawn at the DSD load you would throw at it.
    Lastly, @3:57 "Hey Alexa":
    Alexa is a microphone, modem, and very basic computer.
    If you have Alexa set up to respond to "Hey Alexa", it means that that computer is listening to 100% of every sound in your home (in listening distance).
    But Alexa is too low end of a computer to be able to understand more than "Hey Alexa" (and I suspect that Alexa does not even understand "Hey Alexa"). That means that Alexa uses its built-in modem, that connects to your home's internet router, to send your request to one of thousands of powerful Amazon computers.
    It is Amazon's computers that convert your spoken words into text, research your request, and then respond by sending Alexa an mp3 file (or something similar) and Alexa plays that file, and that is what you hear.
    Turn off your internet service, and Alexa becomes a brick. Alexa will not be able to answer how much is 1+1.
    Since 100% of your requests get sent to Amazon for processing, Amazon can record 100% of your home's sounds. Every word spoken can be recorded by Amazon. Even if they do not save the actual audio, they can save a transcript of every word spoken
    Anyone that understands that they have a microphone in their home, sending everything they say to complete strangers, is inexplicable to me.

    Recommend buying the native file format and make one's own conversions if needed.

    • @JonAnderhub
      @JonAnderhub Рік тому

      The problem is that the native format isn't available.
      The original recording is done in DSD 256 multitrack but is converted to 32 bit 384 kHz PCM for editing.
      It is then converted to the various other formats after being mixed including conversion back to various forms of DSD.

  • @ksukhia
    @ksukhia Рік тому

    Make the DSD release the only one that includes all formats just so the option exists to get all file formats at once if doing the right thing with your webstore is too challenging. This is file delivery, not physical product delivery. Always offer the option, charge more if you want. Don't take a compromised route please.

    The bad part is Octave stopped offering Red Book CD's. Still don't understand this. CD's are still big and if you can't make use of the SACD then it's not cost effective. Not everyone wants downloads.

  • @Oystein87
    @Oystein87 Рік тому

    Not really true.. It is easy to fix this.. My experience buying digital downloads is that if you buy the lower quality file you can upgrade to a better quality for a lower price and then have both. But if you already paid for the higher quality file you also get the lower quality file of you want it..
    And it is not that hard to do if you have the files avaliable on the server anyway.. So this is no issue fixing at all if you actually wanted.
    And why TuneIn? There are many many other alternatives to use that is definently better than TuneIn..

      And yeah.. Lile with Spotify etc you can "download" it but not as a file you actually can copy to another device or burn to a CD etc.. And if youtube or whatever removes the file from their servers it's gone from your "downloads" too so.

    Just forget TuneIn Paul it's a nightmare app. From the point of view of listeners in the UK we can't access ANY radio station that is outside the UK borders unless we use a VPN because it's geo restricted. Not a problem with other radio apps but TuneIn is a no no. Not only that but the sound is crap too, compared with the station's website, the audio is attenuated and lacks punch in the bass. TuneIn is way way overrated and whereas it used to be my go to radio app, now it's deleted and I don't miss it one little bit, it's useless for world wide radio the other side of the pond. At $300 to $400 dollars a month's it's a rip off, they have the impression that everyone loves TuneIn and no one listens to other radio apps when in fact I don't know anyone that uses TuneIn now, not just because of the geo restrictions but because the sound is crap too. I'm now going to head over to Octave Radio and take a listen, thanks for the heads up Paul 👍
