I ate in the original one when I went to Solvang in the mid 70's and also ate in the Carlsbad CA restaurant. I was a United States Marine stationed at MCAS El Toro from 1972-1976.
Great fried chicken there and is delicious with the split pea soup. One great thing about taking long road trips in California growing up were the pea soup Anderson signs telling you it is only 100 miles away and finally arriving for a great meal.
Actually, the Santa Nella location was the second location with the original being in Buellton, near Solvang CA. Although I have never eaten at this location, 40+ years of driving through Buellton has resulted in me eating there about 6-7 times over those 40 years. It seemed to me that the food actually got progressively worse as the decades rolled by, if that was even possible. I think that their primary custom was tourists from the Mid-West, and primarily its gift shop and easy on-easy off the CA101 that made it so popular. I used to tell people that if you wanted to eat Pea Soup Anderson's soup, get it at the market in cans...much better that the restaurant.
Thank you Eric for this upload!.😎

I loved the Beullton location and the pea soup. Lots of good memories of family road trips. Sorry to see it closed.
