Completely agree! Watching him skate, I feel like he just picked up a skateboard one day and decided he was going to be a pro and just did it. (Im over here like did you see me Ollie while moving?!) I’m sure he bailed a good bit but he seems like one of the most naturally talented skateboarders I’ve ever watched. Not saying he didn’t put in some work but just watching his show (which I’m sure was scripted to be over the top but still) and how crazy he was, it’s hard to see him training for hours everyday. I imagine if he’d kept it up, he could have been the best skateboarder but he was fine with “one of” [the best].
He made those tricks look so easy. Lots of people don't give him enough credit for how smooth he was transitioning from one obstacle to another. My flip tricks and spins looked so rough. I hope he never stops skating, especially now.

One of my best skating memories was of Bam showing up at FDR when I was there once. He had that place so wired. It was amazing how much speed he got there, his lines were perfect

It’s hard to believe how good he really was. He had an interesting bag of tricks and a very unique and innovative style. He was a big part of my childhood and gave me a lot of great memories. Thanks Bam.

I use to idolize Bam back when I first started skating, but then I found crazier skaters like Jamie Thomas, Danny Way and Rodney Mullen. Bam might not be the greatest skater but he's still a crazy badass
He is making a comeback guys 100 days sober hopefully we get some more great bam content In the future im sure cause of age he can't do all the same skate tricks but I'm sure he can still tear it up when he gets back into the swing he has started skateboarding again
I'm not sure what you would call it. But he's the best at making the board look like it's a snowboard. It's like it hovers under his feet. His big spins look like a propeller underneath him. 360 and 180s he stays perfectly alined with the board. I've never seen him as a ligit skater but every time I'd see the little parts he was in, you would think he's pretty good but I'd forget about it real quick. Once it went back to him turning his house into a castle.
I've been watching Bam since his Landspeed (sk8 company that only existed for one video) skate video. My close buddy back in the day and I always got together to watch whatever skate video he picked up that week. This was our high school teen years the late 1990s. One of my favorites was like 5-6 pro skaters riding a humongous (bigger that a couch, like multiple couches) skateboard through town down stairs, hills, streets, insanity, but pure joy to watch. Bam and his crew always felt like they could easily been in our group of friends! Bam and his antics were like our inside private joke, the Cky videos cemented it and it grew in popularity and eventually Jackass and Viva LA Bam came along and soon our inside private joke was being intruded by a large scale of intruders. I miss the old days, when Dunn was still around and Bam seemed to be doing so much better.
Watched the first Jackass movie a while back- my dad walked in and got excited to see Bam and Steve-O. Not for the stunts- he just started talking about remembering them from the late 90’s skateboard scene.

I think with musicians, you can judge one song against another and compare them because in the field of rock/blues, not much has changed in decades. I love Hendrix and I think that Little Wing is a better song than Under the Bridge or Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, or something else comparable. But skaters who never did nollie stuff, or big flips and late flips, it's hard to judge them against anyone who does, so you really have to let them be in their time and not judge them against today's standards.

For example a band now might be influenced and get ideas from led zeppelin.. but led zeppelin at the time didnt have a led zeppelin of their own to copy or get ideas from. Same with skating. The advantage now is that theres already a foundation we can build on to.. where as initially.. there wasnt a foundation .. they had to build the foundation. Hope that makes sense. You cant get influenced by something that was never there in the first place.. so who is to say which is better just because of the time. Same goes with soldiers and astronauts. Now we have all this tech and money to aid them.. it years ago.. they had to get by on basically primitive tech.. so does that make the oldies better or the new and improved? You cant get influenced by something that was never there in the first place.. so who is to say which is better just because of the time.
Same goes with soldiers and astronauts.
Now we have all this tech and money to aid them.. it years ago.. they had to get by on basically primitive tech.. so does that make the oldies better or the new and improved?

I believe past boxers would batter alot of present boxers.. alot wont agree.. because yh now we know about better diets and training regimes.. but in the last they got by on far less.. 15rounds..harder gloves.
