I actually love Lorelei in this scene. She’s being an understanding parent who realizes that her kid feels really bad and is struggling, and so she’s putting aside her own feelings to be compassionate toward her child (which is what parenting is all about 😉)
Yeah... I see it more as I've done all I could to push them away and my daughter still fell in love with that hoodlum, now I can't go against it because she's as stubborn as I am so all I can do is tell her the truth and hope it works out. She is compassionate out of circumstance rather than will. She did the right thing, but not entirely for the right reason. At least she admits she was wrong in trying to prevent their relationship, but I still don't like her in the way she behaves in regards to Jess.
Sophie I thought it was sweet of her to wanna see him even if it was just as a friend. It wasn’t even like she intended to miss her moms graduation either.
@@jossieeeiee She was definitely in love with Jess at the end he left and made her suffer somehow assuming he would never be gone rory would have stayed with him because she loved him she felt what the word love meant with him because she and was complementary to him on some things like literature and something else that allows me to say that rory liked jess more than dean in the bathroom when rory takes care of the wool hair in season 3 wool talks to him about dave and that 'she had never loved before him she asks him a very pertinent question then she tells him you too have known her with dean you love a boy who is aware that you love him and who loves you in the same way the camera shot turns on rory and can see her very embarrassed not knowing what to answer she lies saying yes of course but we can see that it was not the kind of answer she meant she always hid her feelings for jess all throughout season 2 and for a short time in season 3 when jess left for the second time she was very sad but kept moving forward she could never really forget what jess had done to her that's why every time he came back to her rory couldn't get past the pain she had felt when jess left without saying goodbye to her again .. then there was logan c is the second boyfriend for whom she had a real feeling yet logan only felt possesions towards her he just wanted control it was unhealthy love .. Jess has always been able to give him a lot of good advice that ' she always applied as returned to class she had let down by the influence of logan ... and many times he knew the guide it was literally soul sisters and I think these two characters deserved a better ending it was rory and jess brothel

Also not accepting her feelings because that might change her already planned "forever" relationship with Dean.
I think there was a lot of adultification in her upbringing/relationship with her mom. She feels responsible for Lorelai's emotional state and is always unsure about what Lorelai is going to be super mad about and what she's going to just brush off so Rory is constantly on edge never quite sure where she stands. That Lorelai is so "cool" and "relatable" and "best friends" with her just makes it worse in some ways. At least if someone treats you like shit all the time you know what to expect but if they generally treat you "well" (and tell you about how well they treat you) you're left doubting yourself when they act unreasonably and never know what you're going to have to be dealing with.
I'm surprised how Lorelai wasn't mad at all when Rory told her she skipped school and travelled to New York by herself. Any parent would freak out about their children sneaking off like that, but Lorelai's only response is that Rory may have feelings for Jess. In fact Lorelai didn't seem so punishing when she found out and just let Rory punish herself with her own list of punishments

She may be a more relaxed parent when it comes to discipline but she would never let something like this slide. She’s not that relaxed of a mom. And she so was angry! Her mother should have told her it’s not the end of the world, things change and while it was wrong what she did, she needs to accept her feelings and really tell Dean it’s over. Not just because of Jess but because she clearly didn’t have those feelings for Dean anymore. It’s like every time Rory says “I don’t want to talk about it”, she needs to know she will HAVE to talk about it at some point if she ever wants to solve her problems.

She would’ve had a wonderful day had she not missed Lorelei’s graduation I didn’t like that. Imagine the type of stress that puts on someone let alone a 16 or 17-year-old person. Trying to figure out who you are at that age is very stressful and we’ve all gone through it. We’ve all done something out of character and have questioned ourselves if what we’re doing is who we are or we’re still just figuring it out. Someone has said this before, but this scene alone is the most relatable scene to any teenager. She’s not trying to manipulate her mother into not being mad at her. Like someone has said already Lorlei is really mad at her for missing her graduation and for skipping school, but considering everything that Rory has said in this scene, the last thing that she wants to do is to yell at her and put even more stress on her when Rory has already Basically punished herself.
