@@trommelbiel Please don't act like Iga's fans are some special type of evil, have you seen what Sabalenka's fans or Coco's fans say about Iga? Stand are all the same kind of toxic unfortunately
I am an Iga fan. I am 68 years old and have watched a lot of tennis. I use to get up in the middle of the night to watch some of Iga's matches since she was a teenager. By the way, something that has been studied over many years is the fact that it is extremely difficult for fans in any sport to be objective in their analysis. I think you do an excellent job of this, Christian. This match does not surprise me at all. As I said in an earlier post, it is going to be more and more difficult for Iga to win on the faster surfaces. With that heavy topspin, and extreme grip forehand, she excels when she has more time on the slower courts. These faster courts rush her shot (mainly the forehand) and she is not able to adjust. Unless she changes her stroke and grip, I don't see her being dominant on the faster surfaces. This is not to say that other areas of her game like her serve and return don't also affect the outcome, but her biggest problem is the speed of the court. Virtually all of the top players hit a flatter ball, giving them more time and an advantage over Iga. That being said, Coco has all of the tools to make it to the top. I have never seen a player in women's tennis who can cover the court like Coco. Her court coverage and defensive game is second to none. She also has plenty of power and can sometimes hit fantastic angles. She has been improving and I told my brother a long time ago, once she gets all of the small kinks worked out of her game, no one will want to play her. There are a lot of good young players coming up, but I don't know of anyone who has the tools that Coco possesses. I predicted that Sabalenka, Gauff and Pegula would be the top players this week. I missed on Pegula, but I would be very surprised if we do not have a Sabalenka vs. Gauff final. These two are currently the best on the faster surfaces. If Sabalenka is at her best, she can beat anyone........but her margin for error is getting smaller and smaller as Coco improves. I am not a Gauff or Sabalenka fan. I am an Iga fan, but I think Iga is going to have a very difficult time getting back to #1 with these 2 players around. I also think Christian does an outstanding job of evaluating players and matches. I like him better than any of the talking heads on the Tennis Channel as well as the ones you see at the slams. Keep up the good work Christian!
@@boby4v2 I did and I support the "essay" yes sometimes it's visible who are Christian's favourite players but its okay everyone has their own fav and he still is objective and certainly more objective than TC commies. Keep up your work Christian
The thing for Coco is that she wasn't afraid to go for her forehand. That gave her confidence to use the other strengths of her game. Her athleticism is great and all, but her entire game shouldn't rely on it. Her athleticism should only come into play when she needs it. But Iga was off a bit and Coco was taking it to Iga instead of reacting which Coco usually does. Not this time though. Also, Coco is pacing herself through these matches more and not rushing and peaking too soon in the 1st few games then going away whenever things aren't going her way.
The thing for Coco is that Iga made 5 unforced errors for 1 winner because it's her 2nd match after 2 months of tennis break, and Coco still threw her 50 life belts all around the match, managing to self-implode in 2nd set only for Iga to implode even more. Coco won't win against top players if she has such huge implosions during the match, she went from breakpoints for 2:4* into *4:3 for Iga at one point. Coco's athleticism is impressive but she must become more consistent. And I say it as not her greatest fan, since I consider her being very toxic and vile for blocking Iga's fanbase twice, after 2023 Beijing and 2023 Cancun losses to Iga, just for being Iga's fans.
I literally just told my mom this same thing today-Coco is elevating in real-time; we're fortunate to witness it. Once she masters the forehand (looking gr8) and the serve, it'll be a must-watch.
Jesus, she just won a second match out of 13 with Iga, who wasn't playing for 2 months. When Sabalenka didn’t play for one month this year, she lost in two turnaments to some random players from the Top50. I'm not saying Coco can’t be the greatest, cause she obviously can, but she had a lot of problems during that match, even though Iga couldn’t do anything with those presents from Coco. I'm just saying - stop making assumptions so quickly.
@@marcusgraham5084 well, they won’t, cause she has to be consistent with those wins. One win doesn’t make you the greatest yet, that's all. Iga was #1 for a looong time, and there were always excuses that she’s there, because the era is weak and so on. Let’s just see what will happen in the future.
The defense, the deep shots and consistent forehand all together made the difference. I also think coco employed the Zheng strategy with Iga by sending her a bunch off high bounce deep balls which is what Iga struggled with in the Olympics. Hope to see Coco in the final.
I said it. Her return game and defense made Iga have to go for more. Also, this is the first time Coco didn’t play like she was David vs Goliath. She played within herself.
Thank you for this accurate analysis of the Coco vs Iga game. I'm a loyal Coco fan, for better or for worse. Coco is our American hope and joy. She has a big chance for the final, but she has to start to control the "demons" that cause her to loose concentration and cause her servicing collapses during her games.
I don't watch much doubles but these matches are GOOD! I'm surprised the number one seeds are (I think) out and "Sinitown" and the "Golden Girls" (Sara &Jas) lost in a tight 3 setter today. So, I'm with you, these ladies are DOING it! 🎉💪🎾💞
This was not a shock. Iga hasn't touched the court in 2 months. Coco has had good form lately. What else is there to say. In tennis recent form matters quite a bit usually.
I think what people aren’t seeing on television is the action Coco gets on some of those slower serves. It’s something you can see Serena do with her second serve when she became a serve master! The ball lands a bit short and has a lot of action and work on it but looks attackable - however- notice how few good returns players are able to get off of it. You have to either come in and time it well but you can be outmaneuvered on the next shot because now you’re in no-man’s land.
Honestly not a huge upset Coco beating Iga despite the H2H, wasn’t expecting straight sets but she did have a good chance to win that one, as Iga hasn’t really played the Autumn hard court season whilst Coco has been in great form. Deserved win for her.
I think we are witnessing a shift in coco game, she's way more dominant and less passive. She's working on the aggressiveness of her game specially on the FH side! And she's able now to put some variations in her game, hit gard, slicing, put volume. And she serve less harder but is more precise, so her serve is way more effective. I don't know why but i think swiantek has a mental pb. She seems like she's not well in her mind right now. 2025 gonna be very interesting, to see how it goes
It was a mixture of both for Iga and Gauff. Iga went after Gauff's fh but it was more solid than usual so she didn't get cheap points. Secondly Iga fh bh and serves were misfiring. Thirdly on Gauff's end, Gauff's serve was relatively stable she kept the ball high to iga's bh and returned more aggressively
Coco has a very good game. Obviously still having problems with double faults. If Coco serves well it’s going to be hard to beat her. I am going with Coco all the way.🎉
Iga is playing the long game, her decisions for the last months obviously tell that she is already looking for the next year. So I don't think these results mean a lot. AO will be the true test for Iga
I hope commentators during the matches should just watch and make their view during the break. So far at Ridayl I enjoy the matches. All the female empires are doing a good job. Keep it up. Coco and Zheng are potential slam winners to watch in coming sessions.
Coco made her hit the errors by the way she looped the forehand to land deep and her return game improved. Coco could’ve beaten easier if the serve was cooking
An out form Iga. Yeah Coco gave her 11 free points to compensate for her out of form and she still didn't win. That almost 3 games out of the seven she won
It was easy to see this defeat coming, for anyone who watched Coco play in China - Coco is playing amazing 🔥, and Iga has lost her air of invincibility. Iga has an image of cold, calculated steel, but I think she is mentally exhausted, and her complaints of the tour being too long and gruelling is a reflection of the strain of maintaining her image. Coco is forced to be more mentally strong, as I do not see the incessant micro analysis (attack) on any other player's game like they do for Coco - as soon as Coco missed two consecutive first serves, you had the presenters talking about her "falling into the serve" but absolute silence and no analysis when Iga did the same thing.
Coco is not that good is a wild statement! She actually is a GREAT athlete and player. Everybody under performs at times even Iga. She’s a great player but she under performed.
Iga Complaints long session when other players play more then her did not complaint. Players like Zheng and Coco knows Iga weakness that why they beat her. In fact B. Kej found Iga weakness too but when Kej took her feet off in second set when three up Allow Iga to recoup.
