Pavlenko… such a beautiful and elegant dancer. Reminds me of the Kirov ballerinas in the 70s and 80s. I wonder why she retired so early. Also, this very beautiful reconstruction was heavily criticized back in the day that I read an article when Altynai Asylmuratova saw this production it made her upset and cry because it was not what she used to dance hahaha
Fun that I can hear the klomp of her pointe shoes...like really being in the audience. Pavlenko's leaps and turns are thrilling. Thanks for another fine mid-morning break. Now back to the grind.
David, one shouldn’t be able to hear the pointe shoes. Seriously, these.dancers are extraordinary and brilliant but they wear brand new shoes straight onto the stage,by the sound of it! This shouldn’t really occur. Also if they “ go through the foot totally” as in early training it shouldn’t happen on stage. The quieter the better, Osipova,,,,,, you can never hear her shoes. Light as. a flying feather 💎🌹
Thank you for this video. Darla and NT have such beautiful lines and excelled during their variations. It is a pleasure to see the exquisite corps. ♥♥♥
She is the epitome of elegance and stunning technical ability made look so easy. I feel,as her Solor Tskisaridze could express more divine love in this role although we all know he is phenomenal. Thank you for yet another striking video💎💎💎
Pavlenko is exquisite, as you say. I actually felt a lot of emotional connection between her and Tsiskardze, but that is just my necessarily subjective view of the performance. I did love how Tsiskardze received Pavlenko on bended knee for her curtain call. So noble, galant and in character as Solor
@@elizzy8754 yes you are right there. He is wonderful and extremely popular as we know. I’m in Sydney Australia,we don’t get to see all this brilliance. If not for COVID I would be on the first plane to the best of Europe 🌹
Interesting how much of this didn't change. I tend to discount wobbling in the arabesque turns in the scarf dance--hardly anyone pulls that off, and I'm surprised no one ever fiddled with that choreography. Enjoying these selections from the reconstruction very much!
Thank you! Have a look at Ekaterina Kondaurova whom I saw live in La Bayadere at the Mariinsky Theatre. Her scarf dance was flawless! Even better than in this video: ua-cam.com/video/cdWtyem-i7k/v-deo.html
@@TheBunduBallerina Thanks for the link! This was exquisite and perfect. I notice she gets in an extra, quicker arabesque turn so her momentum going into the pirouette is better. The only other dancer I've seen not wobble a bit was Tamara Rojo, and she changed the choreography a little so the pirouette was outside/inside (ie, she changed feet). And then threw off a quintuple (that's 5, right?) in the pirouette sans scarf section. Thank you so much for posting! It took me a while to warm up to Kondaurova but she has a lovely, almost spiritual quality to her dancing I've come to value. I forgot if I've mentioned you get to see her in class (also Tereshkina and Kim) in Mariinsky's World Ballet Day company class from last year (2020).
Thanks as ever for another amazing extract. I'm torn over this one - not quite getting a connection between them ... perhaps they were under-rehearsed ? Individually great but something is missing for me ... her hands are exquisite and Tsiskaridze is just his incomparable self !
Этот шарф... как нить судьбы и единственный шанс Солора..! Очень вдохновенное исполнение Дарьи и Николая, это сейчас вообще мало кто может. Спасибо большое за публикацию, красоты в нашем мире должно быть больше.
Daria Pavlenko was a little bit shaky in variations. Tsiskaridze was very impressive. Currently dancing Nikia in Mariinsky Ekaterina Kondaurova is amazing. It is very interesting to see this production from 2003 and to compare. Thank you for the video.
Yes, Elle - I agree. I have seen Kondaurova live at the Mariinsky Theatre in La Bayadere and was so impressed by her flawless technique and touching acting. In the veil pdd she did not wobble or struggle in the least. She dances everything with the greatest ease. She is in command of her art. Thank you for your comment!
@minissa2009 Thanks for your interest. Take a look at this video of Kondaurova and you'll see the exact cast I had the fortune of seeing - Kondaurova & Andrei Ermakov: ua-cam.com/video/cdWtyem-i7k/v-deo.html Ekaterina was unforgettable in this scene especially. I have never seen the veil dance done so steadily and every video of any Bayadere performance I see of her shows her absolute control.
He is showing Solor the wedding outfit he now has to put on to marry the Rajah's daughter, Gamzatti. Solor loved Nikiya, the Temple Dancer and swore his love to her, but the Rajah forces him to marry his daughter Gamzatti. In the last act, (parts of which I will be uploading soon), Nikiya appears again as a spirit. The Temple where the wedding is forcibly being held is destroyed by Higher Forces and Nikiya and Solor are reunited in Heaven.
Beautiful performance!

Pardon my ignorance of the story. What does the chief of the guard come to show Solor at 7:34 and which makes him collapse in despair?
He is showing Solor the wedding outfit he now has to put on to marry the Rajah's daughter, Gamzatti. Solor loved Nikiya, the Temple Dancer and swore his love to her, but the Rajah forces him to marry his daughter Gamzatti. In the last act, (parts of which I will be uploading soon), Nikiya appears again as a spirit.
