+Grant Stouder I thought is was allergies because at one point during the race he said something along the lines of "spring is something else when you allergic to pollen."
Those nearly invisible fires always scared the heck out of me when watching the races on television. I couldn't see the fires on television, but thankfully the pit crews and safety crews could see the fires and get water and fire extinguisher substances on the fires.
I have a cousin (Tony Turco) who raced Indy Lights part-time from 2002 to 2004. The only race he competed in in 2003 was that 2003 race where Arie Luyendyk would flip his car. I don't remember if he was still in the race or not, but I do know that he definitely was at said race.
+KyleBuschPackFan I had that happen a couple of times when I was working in radio and just starting to get sick. You get a bunch of crap on your vocal chords, and suddenly you sound like you're going through puberty again. It's more likely to happen if you have to do a bunch of talking.
That fire accident was the basis for Ricky Bobby on fire scene. You can’t see the flame but you’re burning. Thing is, nascars don’t use that fuel and that’s the stab at Ricky 😂😂
just checked the stats, and it's true, greg really did drive for Richard Childress. as far as i can tell, that's the only start richard ever made in indycar
If you do a Part 18 video, can you please include AJ Foyt freaking out at his crew because of a front wing issue in the 1985 Indy 500 that ultimately put him out of that race?
Childress has been a NASCAR owner for decades. It was bizarre learning that he helped fund an Indy team for a one-off race. Never knew he was interested in open wheel racing.
Stéfano Assi their petrol has a high alcohol content. Any fire fueled by that kind of fuel doesnt have color, and seems invisible. Looks pretty silly, but the pit crew and car were actually engulfed in flame.
That Vasser / Dobson clip was right at the spot on the track where Willy T. Ribbs killed that kid. That camera angle brings that back to my mind every time.
+Josias Rivera Jean-Patrick Hein. The video is on UA-cam. Ribbs ignored the flagger's orders to avoid a chicane and went through. Marshalls were attending to another car, saw Ribbs coming, and tried to get out of the way. Ribbs hit three of them, killing one. All four made mistakes.
I really don`t understand why Americans thought it was good idea to have invisible fire (alcohol fuel)... You literally could think there is nothing but water on the ground, and walk into it just to notice it is actually burning alcohol. Nothing wrong with alcohol fuel as long as there is something that makes the fire visible.
Open wheel races at Indianapolis have been held since 1908, almost 109 years ago. Although Grands Prix have run since 1901(which was actually Le Mans), Formula One was not officially recognized until 1946 and the first FIA Formula One Drivers' World Championship wasn't held until 1950. Though, American Open Wheel Racing had been held consistently to the same series since 1911 (except during World War II), and this class of cars bared the name of the famous Indianapolis 500, or Indy Cars. But throughout the years, both series have adopted certain concepts of one another, and IndyCar has changed governing bodies and regulations many times since. The most famous split was CART (Champ Car) and Indy Racing League (who split from CART in 1994 and formed), though IRL is now the only IndyCar series now, after CART folded in 2008 and later rejoined with IRL. When Indy Racing League started racing in 1996, the idea was to create a series like CART, BUT, at a low price. The idea was to create the fastest race cars, for the cost. IndyCar's average top team budget is $15,000,000 per team while Mercedes-AMG and Red Bull both had a budget of nearly $500,000,000 in 2016. So in the end, IndyCar is sort of it's own thing, American Open Wheel Racing, but in some aspects, it's obvious that it does take some things from F1. One of the biggest things about IndyCar now is that they mostly run Road Courses and street circuits now, where at some point was almost exclusively Oval racing. IndyCar also runs multiple aero kits for road courses, short ovals, speed ways and superspeedways.
A big thank you to you sir!!!! You just made things clear!! In Europe we don't know much 'bout Indy except that it's open wheel and it's in America. The idea behind indy, which is as you said having the faster car for the cost is actually a pretty good thing.
butcher bill One thing to also note is that a few F1 drivers and constructors have also competed in Indy, such as Lola, Cosworth (engines) also, current chassis in IRL are made by Dallara (Who also build Chassis for Haas F1 team and Formula Renault 3.5). And as far as competitors go to name a few, there were: Mario Andretti, Juan Pablo Montoya and Nigel Mansell (Who raced in 1993 in CART after leaving F1 due to a contract problem with Williams after his 1992 championship). Max Chilton also just switched to IndyCar after driving for Manor F1.
That is unfair. I prefer to think it as something where little kids can go to practice how to drive before they advance into Formula 1, and place where drivers who are too old or not good enough to do anything in Formula 1 go to have fun.
IndyCar: 1/250th the budget of F1, still gets compared to it. Now THAT is racing done right... The Indy Racing League started in '94 to compete against CART (Champ Car or Original IndyCar) and their goal was to build fast, reliable race cars and produce excellent racing for low costs. Mercedes' team budget alone would be enough to pay for every IndyCar team's yearly budget...
Yes but you need to remember that entire purpose of Formula 1 is to be most advanced and expensive sport. Formula 1 does not try to be cheap and affordable. It has to reduce costs becouse they are already so massive, but it does not try to be as cheap as indycar. Indycar cost is excellent. But it is not world championship #1 sport with most advanced technology and best drivers. It is great #2 (or other number) sport, just not #1. And i am not talking about personal preferences, you can like #999 sport the most if you want.
Actually, the title for most advanced racing technology belongs to LMP1. Also, Mansell went on to IndyCar, and he wasn't even as old as Schumacher when he retired. He was at the top of his game having just won the F1 title the previous year. "To old" "not good enough" lmao. F1 drivers are not the best drivers in the world. Maybe the best drivers in F1, but that's about it, stick them in anything else and they are likely to have a hard time adapting. Nigel Mansell was a great exception, although he was an excellent driver all around.
You know fire is bad when "taking a headfirst dive on to solid concrete" seems like the better option m
When it burns invisible you don't want to take any chances.
Zoomer30 you do understand that the fuel they were using actually burnt clear and was therefore banned
James Thompson it's called methanol I think
Invisible fire would make me do that too
That glove added about 10 horsepower
Benjamin Ruth HAHA
4:54 - That extra human onboard decreased drag by 20% and gave the car 66 lb-ft more torque!
The guy in the last clip: slide into the DM's 101
mud chicks
These cars sound like multiple airphorns continuously going of
wth happened in that first clip? Bestwick sounds like a broken text-to-speech program.
At first I didn't think that was Bestwick because of how broken that voice sounded. I had to listen to it again to be sure
+Grant Stouder I thought is was allergies because at one point during the race he said something along the lines of "spring is something else when you allergic to pollen."
Bestwick finally hitting puberty
@@michael575538 yeah being allergic to pollen sucks ballz

I love Max Papis. That's twice he's made me laugh
"I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky, but I am in a car, so shiiiiiit".
Those nearly invisible fires always scared the heck out of me when watching the races on television. I couldn't see the fires on television, but thankfully the pit crews and safety crews could see the fires and get water and fire extinguisher substances on the fires.
They couldn't see them either, but they could feel them.
It's so weird how many accidents there used to be in IndyCar during caution laps or exiting the pits.
+Kevin Clarke It would certainly be more interesting if it had stayed that way...
4:57 friendship
Those fires are scary. You can’t see the flame but you sure can feel the heat. Scary stuff.
0:50 *Video pauses* Narrator: Now it was at the moment he realized, he f*cked up..

After watching this not surprised to know that there are 16 more of these.
Wtf happened to Allen Bestwick?
listen to his voice
+KyleBuschPackFan commentators aren't immune to being sick and having scratchy throats...
David Daniel Watch the first clip. It wasn't a scratchy throat. He just jumped two octaves. It was weird af.
I watched the race live...during prerace he was constantly clearing his throat and sounded pretty sick
+KyleBuschPackFan I had that happen a couple of times when I was working in radio and just starting to get sick. You get a bunch of crap on your vocal chords, and suddenly you sound like you're going through puberty again. It's more likely to happen if you have to do a bunch of talking.
Damn. I need to start watching indycar.
that airbourne wreck on the backstretch at texas was very much like kenny bracks
I just got into Indycar last year and I've gotta say that I really enjoy it. I'm just not too sure about these new bodies this year.
Damn Papis was flying at the end.

Can do.
0:02 why i miss allen bestwick a lot
Just so you guys know alcohol burns clear. You cant see the flame. So those guys were burning and you couldnt even tell.
0:30 VERY reminiscent of Kenny Bräck...
what happend at 02:18 - 02:23 ?
It's a NASCAR thing.
can you elaborate please?
Childress has been a NASCAR owner for decades. It was bizarre learning that he helped fund an Indy team for a one-off race. Never knew he was interested in open wheel racing.
Richard Childress + IndyCar = my mind blown
Stéfano Assi their petrol has a high alcohol content. Any fire fueled by that kind of fuel doesnt have color, and seems invisible. Looks pretty silly, but the pit crew and car were actually engulfed in flame.
Ricky Bobby, I won't let the invisible fire get you.
That fire looked about as bad as Ricky Bobby’s fire
When did Indycar stop using the timer? They obviously had timer and lap, when did they stop? I don't ever see it.
When ChampCar stopped being their own series, it stopped being a priority, but both IC and F1 have timers, they're just invisible
Blundell? Isn't that Jimmy Bly?
That Vasser / Dobson clip was right at the spot on the track where Willy T. Ribbs killed that kid. That camera angle brings that back to my mind every time.
Who the hell did Willy kill?
+Josias Rivera Jean-Patrick Hein. The video is on UA-cam. Ribbs ignored the flagger's orders to avoid a chicane and went through. Marshalls were attending to another car, saw Ribbs coming, and tried to get out of the way. Ribbs hit three of them, killing one. All four made mistakes.
+Nathan de Rover damn!!! I didn't know that
Why are F1 fans so insecure?
Those last guys are fucking legends
What happened in the "Row 9" clip? just the fact that they weren't actually showing the cars?
A NASCAR owner made a one-off Indycar entry.
I mean yeah I didn't know Childress ever ran IndyCars, but I couldn't tell if I missed something haha
That cam guy at the second one has balls
2:08 It's like they predicted the ice bucket challenge...
That pit crew pulled a Ricky Bobby
Danica Patrick left Indy for NASCAR??? WHY???
love the last one
1:36 ummmmm
why the hell is there no protection against wheels collision ffs . when are they putting them
What the hell happened with that gas? How/why was it burning them? There was no flame??

Pit stops look chaotic...

TheRomanRuler put food die in it, colored flame, problem solved.
Formula 1 fuel can burn through steel beams! But no really, damn that fuel is very aggressive stuff
1.59 What the hell happened ? Is this due to the fuel ?
It's a Methanol fire, so the flame is invisible. Nasty stuff!
jacoja06 scary stuff
The bestwick thing lmao
*MONtoya*
WTF was that last snippet all about, a driver being carried by another driver? Was there not a penalty for being so unsafe?
The race was over.

Are Indy Car's a American version of European Formula one?

Formula 1> this
A miserable F1 parody
Are you an idiot?
the try to put down gasoline fire with water ?? they are so stupid. this sport is still in the 50' ties.
It's not gasoline
lookat formula 1 and see what they use to extinguish fire
johnny aquila It's alcohol fuel, not petrol.
they even explained in the clip why they are using water it doesn't matter that F1 use powder this was alcohol which is why they used water
johnny aquila did you not watch the clip
