This is a superb light 2 player filler game… i love it. Bruno comes up with another gem after 7 wonders Duel. For avoiding the swing in Deben coins…. We have made a house rule that all coins count as 3 points only…
Thanks for giving the positive and negative points about this game. It's one I've been interested in, but not wild about. Probably worth picking up second hand when I can find one at a good price. Thanks!
Perhaps the designers thought of making the Debian coins all one value & they decided against it because doing so would make the points from corruption known & they wanted to avoid that? (It does make the decision to skip over tiles a little more risky in that you don’t really know what you are giving your opponent in the end game). I generally avoid changing the rules of a game but have to admit at times it’s a necessity. We played w/ the standard rules when we found the game on Board Game Arena & generally liked the game. Idk if we’ll ever buy the physical board game,,,,I really like the mechanics but the artwork is a tad cartoony w/ the wacky characters & all. That is generally a turnoff in our house but as you say some people love that kind of thing :)
I agree completely with you regarding the wildly differing values of the bag draw tokens and wonder why that element was left in the game by the designers after play testing must surely have identified it as a big negative. The character powers seem a bit of an add on in an attempt inject more depth to a pretty simple game. I’m not sure I would choose to play this over Targi, even though that game takes longer.
I have this game, and my only complaint is that there's no 'take that' moment in the game. it's too friendly and easy going. having said that, we do like the game and we play it ocassionally
